tradinoal dorm or apartment style ?
While applying on the website, that part of dormitory there are two options 1- place in hostel till September 1 2- hostel during studies and after September 1. If I pick 2 will i be automatically be given a hostel on campus?
the campus is located across the city and you will hopefully be allocated in St P, as an international student Kapitanskaya 3 is a probable option which is my place. There is also Peterhof which is further out of the city but still apart SpBU

The day time is too hot during summer. You should only go out at night as it cools alittle. GZ is great but Shanghai architecture and sea view are even more modern. all cities looks modern even the poorest one.
