#759 United threw away a two-goal lead in Porto to leave Estádio do Dragão with only a point from the Europa League match. But the result is only part of the conversation after another chaotic, messy and incoherent performance from Erik ten Hag's team. Ed and Tom discuss just how long the Dutchman has left in the job and then look forward to a difficult game against Aston Villa this weekend.

United took a point away from Porto tonight but it was another chaotic game in which United's defensive shape truly couldn't have been worse. On the plus side, Erik ten Hag's team produced some nice attacking play, but it is the number of goals conceded that is going to get the Dutchman the sack sooner rather than later. Damned if one does damned if one doesn't, no matter what and how the team does under a manager. The thing is, people make their minds over managers not on the basis of actual match to match decisions and long term planning they execute, but in the soft skills around it they use to sell themselves, no matter how mediocre they are- the narrative builders, and for that reason, for once, I am in a better mental space now knowing that people who will be making decision on the appointment of managers in the club won't be people who get influenced easily by this and have no clue about actually how a manager should work.
Elvir Bolic was the Fenerbache striker!
Indeed!
You guys are so unbelievably miserable 🥱
They weren’t ’very different halves’-the first 15-20 were very different from the rest of the match. Brentford’s goal was entirely against the run of play. Brentford were good in the first 15 but united dominated afterwards and should’ve finished more chances earlier.
In regards to the stats Harris found on results before and after the cupfinale. My sense is that it has to do with the loss of Eriksen, Shaw og Martinez in this period. Key players who had been great the whole season up until then and pushed United forward, but who have been poor or mostly missing since, thus ensuring that the quality when they were playing before the cupfinale was lacking @nqatpod
I mean let’s face it… we should be beating Brentford at home. Given our start however, we needed the 3 points in any way necessary. Onwards to the next game.
Thanks guys, a great watch/listen as ever. You are totally right about MGB, can't stand the guy.
I’m sure I watched a 15 minute video of the less dorky one saying we were going to lose the other day because of ‘data’ and ‘trends’
Football is unpredictable. Shock, horror. Move on.
5:50 tbf we only just entered the top half of the table 😅
Thanks Ed, biggest take away is the opportunity cost of not replacing ETH not least for squad injuries which have been a constant since he joined.
first time i see you on camera, feels weird to put a face to the voice
Lone man talking about how shite we are to camera? Ed’s goldbridge era has begun!
It's Unied. Has driven me to madness.
ETH must have tapes on INEOS like Puffy has on Hollywood to still be in a job 😱
Thanks Ed we're fecked

@@nqatpod the state of our club…
Hahaha that’s spot on for the vibe. Thanks Ed!
Cheers Ed 👍🏻
Couldn’t give a monkey’s where the coach is from, best person available for the role is who you hire. Complete non issues, be nice if England won a tournament in my life time.
A lot of trophy winning international managers don't have a great club managerial career. Low, Deschamps & Santos for example.
Not English, but if I was I'd also challenge the coaching pathway as a result of Tuchel's appointment. Why does no English manager who has gone through the system come close to the plethora of Italian, German and Basque managers?
Wonder if he will sing the anthem
Interesting that apparently united couldn’t afford tuchel but the FA can
I for one am incredibly disappointed that the new manager isn’t English. Love from Scotland.
Ha ha 😂,,I'm Irish and devastated
Could you explain why you’re confident big Jim will be able to complete the takeover in 18 months to 3 years time?
Clauses in the contract between the two parties that suggest that's the period when the Glazer will get best value. Incentive is on all parties to do that.
Good excuse early doors Wayne 😂
I always feel Ron's teams were as exciting as ever
Tommy Docherty did re-invent Manchester Utd
Tommy Docherty was fantastic, he just fell in love with the wrong woman. Although they're still together.
Thanks for the frequent uploads. Best United podcast out there
Brentford L Fenerbahce L Westham. D Liecester W Chelsea. L PAOK. W Leicester W Maybe as much as 8 goals. Not even sure I’m being overly negative…..
This being a fairly reasonable run of results based on recent form is damning.
Generally agree with you guys on most things but Shaw not playing for Manchester United since February, going to a tournament with England unfit then playing when he could never have been match fit to then come back & get injured again, is understandably frustrating. He shouldn’t have gone to the Euros & the fact United ‘are going nowhere’ isn’t any excuse. He owes this club as much, if not more, than any other current player.
Yes, but you understand the 'why' he wants to play in a tournament for his country I'm sure.
@@nqatpod Yes but rushing to be ‘fit’ for England was always going to put him at a disadvantage for the club that he’s played so little for & a fan base that has been far more forgiving with him than most. Nowhere did I say he shouldn’t want to play for his country. I’m saying that when does but hasn’t played for us since February whatever credit he did have should be long gone. Saying we’re ’going nowhere’ as an excuse really isn’t one. He should want to play for & play well for us as much as anything else imo. United > England.
Dammit, we were on the cusp of having actual depth…
This squad should be able to win each of these next 7 games (besides Chelsea, maybe). If there's no obvious signs of progress then he's got to be done.
My Wayne question was tongue in cheek 🤣
You received the shortest ever reply to any question ever asked of me 😂 WB

Can’t find the link in the description 😂
Given that ETH only got the years extension to his existing deal it seems to me that they know already that he won’t be getting a new long term deal next summer. So why prolong the agony…I not desperate for him to be sacked just seems like we’re drifting to him being sacked before Xmas anyway
My thoughts exactly. It feels inevitable
Assume they gave that to him just to make sure he wasn't a lame duck this season. Not sure it had the desired effect.
@@hooksx I don’t think they thought he had to go in the summer but I’m pretty sure they know he’s not their man now after the start of this season. What would he have to now to get a three year deal and what are the odds of it happening
Why it is so crucial to prove the 115 charges and relegate them to league one and be done with them.
City have more money than UEFA, FIFA and the Premier League. They want the completion to look the way they want it. By bulldozing it with legal action and starting a break away competition.
I find it noteworthy that you and giggles lack understanding... Isn't it accurate to say Manchester City's victory claim is legitimate, considering the rules were lawfully upheld? 🤦🏻♂️
If you win two and lose 23 can you claim victory? The main point is there are really only two impacts 1) Owner loans will have to bear interest 2) The clubs will be able to access to comparison database (within the bounds of contract confidentiality). What City wanted was unfettered access to state wealth via state sponsors. They won't get that = a very clear strategic loss.
Great explainer! Much better than the stenography from reporters shilling for City.
Really interesting discussion lads, thanks for the breakdown.
They say a committee was trying to design a horse and came up with a camel.
Rightly or wrongly I don’t think there’s any way the footballing committee thought EtH could perform worse than last year. This year was a long goodbye where he was meant to keep us in/around the European places but they’re now forced to address this earlier than anyone would have thought. As much as Ruud looks to be the incumbent they couldn’t have thought they’d be looking at him in OCTOBER. It’s happening all over again but I honestly feel him being SO bad is going to keep him employed!
Some of the decision making and/or simple passes being misplaced is baffling. They are so bad to watch and take no care with the ball. I’m finally at the stage where I wouldn’t mind a change of manager but these players aren’t very good so good luck. Varrane really was an elite defender when fit…
To be fair I think Erik’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t at the moment. If they’d tried to play a more expansive style and gotten battered you’d be sitting there saying “chaos ball merchant, no clue what he’s doing, suicidal given the circumstances”. But by taking a pragmatic approach it’s “he’s just going game by game trying to get results, there’s no attempt to impose a style of play”.
Well I guess the point is, after over 2 years, you shouldn't be not playing an expansive style in fear of getting battered. He had 150m worth of defenders and a holding mid signed under his watch on the bench that he could have played to play that style without that fear.
He signed the players which got him into this tactical predicament pal
I don't think that's fair really... he's had 900 days, 124 games, £650m in investment and there isn't a game model in sight. Good results mean you can stick two fingers up at the critics, fans or professional. Shit results means you get scrutiny.
@@glimmer_twin he’s only damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t because after 100+ games his team are in the bottom half of the table & he’s having to set his team up for his survival. the game model used on Sunday is unsustainable yet here people are still creating excuses.
you look like two broken men
Footie journos need to stop scaremongering with Southgate. Of the best Ineos/ Man Utd reporters - Times/ Sunday Times through legacy Team Sky cycling contacts and the business desk, The Athletic who are the footie gold standard up to and including Ornstein, the BBC/ Simon Stone and finally Romano- NONE r punting Southgate and several have said it’s not a serious story Only the third tier outfits like ESPN, who I think were the original source, and Talkshite take great delight in puffing it up. Tho ur fav RUclipsr Goldbridge has also shamelessly punted it even tho Romano was on his own show denying it. Clickbait pure and simple.
wtf u on about?
Fucking hell you look NOTHING like I imagined. Not in a bad way or anything. Wowzers
The level of gaslighting to united fans from some popular fan channels is horrific. Justifying these performance under the illusion of progress being made and claiming patience is needed when clearly Ten Hag is the issue. It does make me wonder for what reason? Don’t get me wrong, I detest the cesspit of toxicity cultivated from channels like Goldbridge but it seems they’ve gone the opposite end of the spectrum? Denying what everyone can see? A manger totally out of his depth. There’s no shame in admitting that. Would love your thoughts?
Well it would be rude of me to suggest there’s a financial incentive so I’m definitely not doing that 💰
Well played for calling the forest fan out for his absurd levels of criticism and hypocrisy re: Rashford. I personally think his online presence is a massive issue to the club. You guys are a breath of fresh air as a channel 💪🏼
