The dive bomber version of the Mustang was the A36, and was ordered by the USAAF to keep the production line open after North American built 620 Mustang Mk I & II's for the Brits !!!! USAAF had money in its budget for ATTACK aircraft and not fighters and to to keep the production line open, as A36 Dive Bombers, as war had started by then until more money became available for fighters which the USAAF ordered 1000 P51 A Mustang fighters !!! And as a FYI ALL aircraft engines are also OIL COOLED, in line also Water cooled, and Radials are Air cooled, but ALL rely on Oil cooling and radiators to cool the oil, break an oil line and when an air cooled engine runs out of oil the engine will also seize!!! That Bullcrap you spout about vulnorability of liquid cooling is just that !!!
