I have your arrangement from the Sacred Art Songs II catalog of music of Clayne Robison. Do you know the history of the text of this song? I have seen a version from the Black Spirituals tradition that has some similarities to the first verse of the text of your arrangement but was expanded considerably, perhaps by John G McCurry and Power as stated above?

I'm not always sensitive to that distinction, but having listened to part of the melody from McGurdy and Power as well as the black spiritual song of the same name I can see that yours is completely original with no similarities to the others, other than the words. Now I have a question for you. Assuming you are LDS do you believe that this song would be appropriate for sacrament meeting as a musical number? I ask this because I heard Clayne Robison say that he would not present it in a sacrament meeting. However, I feel if done with the right spirit and appropriate dynamics it could be presented in such a way that it would not appear over the top and could move the audience powerfully. (Also, assuming Christy is your daughter, I love her presentation of the song). Thanks, Tim

Tim54ist I'm not related to Christy, that I know about. Weepin' Mary was composed on a Friday night, and performed the following Sunday in Sacrament Meeting. I can't imagine why Clayne would say that, since the Sabbath Song compilations are all songs meant to be performed in Sacrament Meeting, actually compiled for that very purpose.
