Very cool! I've had my Gen 5 HPWH for a few years now working flawlessly, other than replacing a thermister. The top connections and the duct connections will help so much during installation, especially for homeowners like me. With the energy savings, i've surpassed the cost of the water heater and am still going compared to my old electric water heater.

No annoying BGM, no tales of amusing stories about a real incidents, just Good clear instructions, helped me a lot! Thank you very much.

How do I run it without the fan kicking on? My garage gets freezing cold with the fan on. Great for summer, not for winter.

My Rheem electric water heater would not connect to my WiFi despite many attempts 8/11/24. I called the 800 support number and was told two reasons why I couldn’t connect: 1. My VPN had to be disconnected during the setup-OK DONE! 2. My WiFi had to be a 2.4g and not 5G network to be compatible with my Rheem water heater’s WiFi. I only have a 5G network, so I’m out of luck unless I can get ATT to add a free second 2.4g network. This is incredibly frustrating! I have a “smart” water heater that won’t work with a high speed internet connection. Rheem should put this information on big stickers on both the box and the water heater itself: “CAUTION: This device can only operate on a 2.4g network.” So if your home network is 5G only, the app and the water heater WiFi are USELESS!

If space above the water heater is a problem, how do you get the old long one out before replacing it with the flexible one?

For anyone prepping to do this and reading all of the comments... be aware that the insulation on top of the anode can be much thicker. Have vacuum ready to suck out the foam bits. My 80gal Rheem tank had at least 2 inches of foam to dig out (now i know why the "tank" is so huge for only 80 gallons... I guess that's a good thing). And as others have commented, put the teflon tape on counter clockwise.

How to you remove an element that is bent or spread......will not come out. Need to clean out my tank but bent element will not allow it to come back out. Frustrating.

i got one of these and it is noisy. It makes almost a shrill high pitched sound when running. It really bothers me. It's in my basement but that is right below a bedroom. I will have to call the company and see what they say. Fun. Mine says it was made in the March of 2024, so they have not resolved this issue as of then.

My Rheem Gladiator has been nothing but an annoying nightmare since it was installed. Worthless. You guys are the absolute worst.

i have the option to install the water heater in laundry room that is in the main hallway or the garage. Laundry has open air vents high and low from when i had a 95% gas heater that was removed and is now a heat pump so air flow no problem. I am concern about pumping cold air in during winter months and can vent to outside but wont this casue negative air pressure in the house ? My other option is install it in the concrete garage that stays very cold in winter 35-40and even in summer it might only get to 55 degree. Would the colder garage temps effect its efficacy?

For people who's water heater doesn't have enough vertical ceiling clearance to insert a new full length rod, they now make "collapsible" rods that look like sausage links.

My water heater is heating the water at 165 degrees at it's lowest setting. Would that mean the thermostat is faulty or there is a gap between the thermostat and the water heater?

The first thing you do is not buy this computer it’s a pice of crap.they sent me 4 I changed the heater to a Bradford white and never looked back ,funny rheem plastic. Bradford white all metal.

Letting you all know that the element that you remove can be descaled. A great way I found to do this is filling a 2 liter Coke bottle (or some other bottle capable of fitting the scaled element fully inside it) with CLR and let it soak. If you’re worried about water contamination from the CLR you can order 75% acetic acid (stronger vinegar) from Amazon and use it instead. Carefully clean the element lightly with a wire brush gently brushing along the element to remove the scale build up (that’s if it just doesn’t fall off or get eaten up). If the element isn’t broken or cracked replace the gasket (you can probably find one of these online) and wrap the threads clockwise with teflon and tighten it back in. Or better yet you can save these descaled elements just in case your new elements go out as an interim fix until you can get new elements.

Your instructions seem to be neither clear nor complete. It seems we find better instructions from independent people unconnected with rheem. How is this possible? Also your website is just as frustrating to use to find information. Still cannot seem to find answers in searches. We also called the customer service line. What we got seemed like generic answers; with questions more interested in making sure a product is ''registered'' than in solving problems, and using some database that doesn't seem to retain information already provided in the past.

the leak sensing rope is VERY VERY hard to slide back into the conduit. is there a lubricant that can be used?

This is useless. Flush will not flow through the unit due to an internal bypass valve. Rheem doesn’t tell you that.

Generally the big box versions have the plastic valves. Buy from a plumbing supply and you get brass . Also, the manufacturers usually use lesser parts inside on the box store versions. All in the name of saving YOU money ( in the very short run) - LOLs.

rheem makes it a pain in the ass and expensive to make simple repairs. you have to get the parts only through them. im never going to buy a rheem anything again!

The video says to drain 2 gallons. The checklist says to drain the tank. Even if you are going to drain the tank to flush it (regular flushing whether it is every 6 months, annually, etc). I suggest you don't drain the tank!!! (except for the 2 gallons) until after you loosen the rod. The mass of the water will help when you are attempt to break-loose the rod. Once loose, drain the rest of the water if you are flushing the tank. Speaking of the socket, many of you will need a thin-wall socket. Huskey makes a thin-walled 1 1/16 inch socket. I don't remember where I got it. I got the rod from Home Depot for $20 in 2021. I haven't tried this DIY thing yet. This afternoon I'll try to loosen the 3 year old rod and check the condition. I promise to wrap the teflon tape the correct way which I now understand is counter clockwise.

I get why you open the valve for the faucet (pressure release?), but why do you have to drain it? Is the rod way down in there under the water or something?

This whole process would be so much easier if the water heater manufacturers would design this rod to be replaced regularly. Just simply adding a Teflon seal on the threads would make a difference not to mention a collapsable rod so it didn't need to be cut to remove it when there isn't enough ceiling clearance. It seems as if the manufacturers don't want it to be replaced and that's why most people don't do it. Too much of a hassle for the average homeowner.

What does it mean when the element itself is still shocking me but the wires are off of it and the breakers are all off
