These scenes were deleted in the original theatrical releases but many of these scenes appeared in “The Godfather Saga” which was the directors cut of the first two Godfather films that were assembled in chronological order. It was aired as a mini series in 1977 on NBC. Coppola had to eliminate a number of scenes from the original films to tone down the violence, language, and sex so it could be shown on TV, but it also added footage that didn’t make it to the original cuts. Despite having to eliminate some scenes for television, the chronological order of this version along with the additional scenes has many saying this version is superior to the original. Unfortunately I do not believe this version is currently available anywhere. I’d love to see a directors cut of this version with the scenes removed for television added back with these delegated scenes.

I’m glad they cut this. The whole thing with Genco dying is pointless to the story. It doesn’t do anything for any characters. The bit between Michael and Vito could have been done at their house after the wedding

Some interesting observations, but most of you miss the point. The Godfather trilogy presents Vito as a largely unwitting participant in the criminal world who was drawn into it by time and circumstance, and who made the best of it. It makes him a sympathetic figure. Had this scene been included, Vito's subsequent actions toward Fanucci, Clemenza, and Tessio would have come across as Machiavellian, calculated, cold blooded, sinister, self serving. Becoming head of a criminal enterprise would have been his goal, not an accident.

This film is like an unfinished jigsaw! It really needs to be put back together!!!

What’s amazing is the complete contrast Michael treats his nieces fiancé vs Connie fiancé (His nieces fiancé calls him sir, Mr. Corleone, answers respectfully and in return even when Mike is prodding him it’s never disrespectful and he even smiles at them vs. Connie’s fiancé who Mike treats like he isn’t even in the room- respect goes a long way)

The ironic thing is that Fredo had the most physically attractive wife of Vito's three sons. Unfortunately, for Fredo, she had the worst personality.

“Al Neri,” showed up in the Sopranos. He was a cohort of Lou DiMaggio. The weird New England crew/family that were hit men. They were going to whack Johnny Sack. He was the family member hooked up to the oxygen tank.

2:33 Everything was great untile the sinister remark. I'll explain... The whole movie is one then two... Niceness, then the dig.. It would have been refreshing to see Michael with a nice scene period. This would have added richness to the movie.. A nice contrast to the expected downer of man's hypocrisy.

I’ve heard of the extra footage of Vito in the 30’s, Michael in DC, and 1968 scenes. I wish paramount would release them, the scenes are probably in their vault. I wonder what the scenes were and what could Michael do in DC in 1962, when it’s known he’s a gangster.
