Xeigu G90 Rocks POTA Activation...DISCLAIMER poor video audio.
Просмотров 416 часов назад
Philip KA4KOE and Stacy WA4IDS activate Ft. Morris US-3717 on 14 December 2024. Xiegu G90 @ 20 watts. N9SAB EFHW hung from a Gigaparts 10 meter carbon fiber mast. 37 contacts 40 meters and 65 contacts on 2o meters...all SSB. I was using a new video camera which frankly has poor audio. I'll be returning the camera to Amazon.

AM Mode With Brother Eric KK4TVR.

Eric KK4TVR is receiving and using an Icom IC7300 with a Symetrix 528E for transmit compression. The 7300 alone does not allow compression in AM mode. I apologize for the low resolution video from my brother.

Great activation! What key are you using and how is it mounted on the G 90 frame?
@@MajorHamKB6DAD-u9s chicom mini key. Off Amazon. I use the one with magnets in the base and a square sticky ferrous / nickel base that comes with the paddle.
You have to move the paddle polarity switch as it's mounted upside-down.
Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve just started my CW journey and love my G 90 and that was a cool way to mount up the key.
@MajorHamKB6DAD-u9s it's not a great key but it's small.

great station congratulations 73 from kb2uew
Very cool! It had not occured to me to try a random length delta loop like this outside of feeding it with open wire. I did some quick googling and found very little information on others trying to match a random length delta with ununs. Do you have any resources you can share? Thanks!
running stop signs are fun
You are observant. Funny thing is, there was no intersecting road there IIRC.
Shoutout from a fellow elevated radial user!
@wadeduvall7026 numbers don't lie... so much easier and these aerials take names as I'm sure you've noticed.
Want to understand how this is portable? Is the whip segmented? Can the whip be coiled up into something easy to transport? How do you easlily move a fairly inflexable 17 foot antenna without driving a 20 foot RV? A rolled up multi segmented 20ga wire end fed on a colapseable fiberglass or carbon fiber crappie pole seems way easier to transport in my ford escort. New to hobby, please excuse ignorance.
@@DJNitreBlue Watch my other videos.
@ Ok. TY.
@DJNitreBlue clarifying...I use wires on poles and thrown in trees, favoring N9SAB aerials. I have at least a dozen other portable aerials I use. This 25' Whip beats the pants off segmented 9 foot military aerials, primarily on 80/40m. The whip can be shortened for 20 and above, also removing the big coil.

@@Philip-KA4KOE You realize you have 414 videos right? Care to link to the one that answers the question?
Would you ever use electrical conduit for a mast? I built my first antenna last week with it and seems to work.
@tjk1968slice depends on what type. As an EE, I'd say use only RGS, but it's heavy. EMT and IMC are not galvanized and thin walled. I've used the chain link fence poles that go between the risers for years. 20' max on that type.
@Philip-KA4KOE Thank you sir.

This guy still communicating via Morse Code 😭
Since 1979. And still loving it.
@@Philip-KA4KOE Nah but I genuinely respect the hell out of this though, I tried to use an online Morse code paddle and I, for the life of me, couldn't even spell out "SOS" to save my life 💀 dope ass hobby
Morse code is radio on hard mode. It is actually growing, which is kind of cool. You can send direct radio to radio links around the world (no internet) and experience the 'Vulcan mind-meld' only Morse can give you. It is a trip. Easy to learn. Impossible to master. It is the ultimate addiction.
Try modern communication
Why? This mode actually takes skill, intelligence, coordination, and perseverance. Or, I could hook up my GETAC F110 and numb my mind with FT8 (which I've tried).
@Philip-KA4KOE why ... Because it's way simpler
@@ferv888 Some people like spinach and some don't. Similar situation. We all play radio our own way for enjoyment. Actually, I can send morse (if I was so inclined), with a very simple radio that I handbuilt with no more than 5 transistors and assorted passive components. No computers, nothing but the radio, antenna, battery, and key. It doesn't get simpler than that. I've used and tried most of the digital modes and have that capability. RTTY, FT8, FT4. PSK31, JS8 Call, VARA-HF (Winlink), VARac (chat mode), SSTV, WSPR. All have their place. Some days one might want to play SSB, or CW, or digital.
@Philip-KA4KOE i get it dude it's impressive... But why go trough the struggle

Sorta cheating with two hands no? I’ve always played (and only ever seen it played) one hand only
can you share the amazon links for the pole mount you are using thanks
Varies for vehicle. You will need a hitch riser and maybe hitch extenders plus anti-vibration clamps. Pole mounts are off etsy.
Is that a belfry?
Near Keller fishing dock.
No it's a dock piling with metal cover.
@@Philip-KA4KOE it's a belfry.... because it has bats in it.
Philip, I remember doing that with my son Sean when down at the Isle of Hope marina. Neat to see them come out to feed.

Very cool TKS GL73
Nice setup. A couple of quick questions: What gauge wire are you using for that antenna? The Spiderpole doesnt look like its bending much at all. And how has it worked for your portable ops so far? I ordered the 12m Spiderpole for similar purpose and then found your video a day later. 73
Need to have them myself....💯👌
Enjoyed it!
Thank you!
I have the exact same combo of 897D and AT-897 plus. I bought it used when I got back into ham radio over a decade ago, and it's still working well. It's not my main rig anymore, but still gets regular use in my alternate shack. It's definitely due for a PM cycle and some cosmetic TLC.
Looks to be dialed in well. I've never tried a delta loop, so I'm interested in this project -- thanks for sharing. I appreciate your videos. They're short, to the point, and actually talk about what's in the title. 73 de N8ESP
