Sarah is a fourth-year (PT) Anthrozoology PhD candidate at the University of Exeter. Her doctoral project ‘Kissing Sharks’, is based upon examining unique, intimate shark-human relationships through posthuman and symbolic interactionist lenses. The founder, and still an active co-director, of a volunteer street-living animal charity in Saudi Arabia, Sarah continues her anthrozoology master’s activist-researcher approach in studying feline lives in Saudi Arabia. Her research for sharks, cats, online presence, and peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations can be found here: www.kissingsharks.com.

Qualitative analysis is a common methodology for examining the media portrayal of sharks. Such research has highlighted how media outlets such as tabloid newspapers and infotainment organisations, commodify fear by perpetuating negative representations of sharks by wielding certain linguistic techniques. Despite the efforts of a growing body of individuals and institutions to change this harmful stereotype, it persists today. Lack of national facility really is the main reason for the suffering of countless dogs and cats. Saudi is a very rich country but very poor on animal welfare support.
