Python vs Bash with Ken Youens Clark
In this episode of the SysAdmin Show I talk with Ken Youens-Clark about using Python for some basic scripting tasks. We directly compare writing a small program written in both Bash and Python to see the benefits of using Python. Check out this and other episodes at sysadminshow.com.

Never see a cute it guy before. Hope to see more videos soon
Thank for this great video. I realized that I initially created a single site WP instance and this is why I do not see create new site option in WP. Can I follow the same process that you outlined here to migrate my single site to multi site WP instance. Then, once migrated, create a subdomain and a new site in WP?
Yes that should work. I’m actually looking to do the opposite soon and migrate to a single site instance to simplify my setup.
Also, when I got to Migrate Guru, I do not see an option for FTP. I only see “Other Host” option. Is that normal?
I want to buy the CPU you give your contact number
Perfect walktrough on what I thought that I needed to do with Migrate Guru after abandoning a process involving a fully paid version of WP Migrate after 3 days issues with AWS Lightsail
Weird. I have the exact same setup as you on Lightsail, and I'm getting "We are unable to contact the source site. Due to this the migration cannot be completed." I'm a little late on the 7.x to 8.x PHP upgrade
Figured it out, my hostname was default on the old host set to the autogenerated XIP domain name which was having issues with name resolution by BlogVault's servers. I logged into the old console and set the default domain to a static one.
Thank you so much for posting this. Works great! Thank you.
Hey, I tried this but it returns an error message for the User Name Bitnami- any insights as to why possibly? I'd love it if this would work- it would be a really simple migration process. Thanks
Hi Would this work on hp elite 8300 tower
Hi, I'm wondering that too
How much cpu cabinet cost
Life saver 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Microsoft always doing funny things. Before is the shared printer issue. Now, something new. It is a real NATIONAL SECUITY
Fortunately this one was resolved quickly. The network printer issue dragged on for months!
I thought the whole idea of bitnami was that bitnami could keep the whole install up to date automatically in the background? I guess not?
I was expecting that as well, but at least with the way Amazon is bundling it it's not recommended. I gave it a try before I knew it wasn't recommended and while I could get the new version (of PHP for example) installed just fine I could not get bitnami to use it.
Pretty nice setup 👌
Thanks! It worked great, but was ultimately too RAM limited, so I've upgraded to 2x HP DL380p G8 servers. They each have 96GB of RAM which is plenty for my needs. Do you have a home lab?
@@sysadminshow yes i have also and esxi and vcenter but i struggle with only 24GB of RAM 🐏
What's the easiest way for me to move one ESXi 7.0 VM from one host to another without vcenter ?
Sorry for the late reply. You can export from the source ESXi by right clicking on the VM and selecting Export. This will create several files. Open up the target ESXi and select Create/Register VM and then select Deploy a virtual machine from an OVF or OVA file. The process is a little buggy, but mess with the options and you should be able to get it to work.
good content, thanks for newbie. Virtual routing and switching please!
Do you want this specific to VMware networking, or is any platform OK? I use pfSense VMs to make isolated development networks and it's been on my list to make a video for it.
@@sysadminshow yeah that would be great. Or even just the built in vm networking editor tool for vm workstation
thank you for the concise and complete tutorial
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, pls I would like to know if your host system was in the same subnet as the EXSi vm.
My desktop computer is not in the same subnet as the ESXi host. I may not get to it in this video, but ultimately I am running my ESXi and vSphere servers in the 10.0.0.x subnet and most of my home equipment in the 192.168.1.x subnet. This has actually caused some issues when my router isn't accessible to route the traffic to them. I originally wanted to keep them separated for security reasons, but not longer see this as an issue. During my next rebuild I plan to put my core VMware ESXi and vSphere servers on the same subnet as my workstation and then run certain VMs on a separate subnet to isolate them for security reasons. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Hi just subscribed love your channel. BTW I have an old poweredge 620 I bought from ebay and would like to use it for vmware lab. Do you recommend it?
Yes that's a great lab machine! How much RAM does it have? I recommend installing VMWare onto a SD card or USB stick on it. Then run all your VMs on an SSD. Let me know how you make out.
@@sysadminshow Thanks! It came with 32GB RAM installed. That should be enough..correct? I like the Idea of using USB stick and SSD. I work on it over the weekend and let you know how it works out
Yes 32GB is plenty. VMWare uses very little, so the rest will be available for VMs. I typically give 2-4GB per VM and at least 2CPU cores per VM. You can assign more CPU cores than your system has and it won’t conflict unless it gets under heavy load. Select thin provisioning on your VM disks, so you will only use disk space up on you SSD as you add files. Otherwise you will run out of space fast.
Sweet... thanks for sharing! Subscribed! Hey have you had any issues with USB drives wearing out running ESXi on them? I have a few that have gone out.
I've never had that issue. I've been using USB for years and I run SD cards for production servers at work. Never had a failure. I try to stick with name brand, but maybe I've just been lucky.
@@sysadminshow Thanks for the response. I've had roughly the same experience: Back when HPe and Dell used to factory-ship with a pre-loaded internal SD card with current ESXi as a config option, occassionally they would fail after several years. But in home labs, even doggone brand-bame SanDisk and Samsung SD cards would die on me. I cant recall what brand the OEMs were shipping in their units. Subscriber #99 here!! :D I've got a similar tech-focused channel, would love the support!
This is good information, keep them coming, #97 subscriber here 😎 Something I want to see is Veeam integration with your VMware environment.
Thanks! Yes I’m a big fan on Veeam and it’s been on n my list to setup for my home lab. I’ll be sure to make a video of the setup process.
Thanks for this video, a lot of good information for me. I'm getting Intel NUC next week, can't wait to test it all.
Awesome! Those are really nice machines. How did the install go?
Hey man, I recently found your podcasts on Spotify. Just wanted to say that I love them; they're awesome. Keep up the great work!
That's great to hear! Do you have any PowerShell scripts in the works?
Incredibly useful examples. Thanks for introducing me to Ken Youens-Clark.
Thanks for the feedback! What are you doing with Python?
What server did you use?
The hardware I installed this on is the HP 8300 ultra-slim desktop. I give a detailed overview here. ruclips.net/video/G2zvwhEmS9s/видео.html.
Will you do more videos as you make your home lab? I am sure there are a few people who would find it very helpful to see the process.
Yes. I plan to add more as I go. Let me know if you want to see something specific.
i want to buy this cpu you give your contact number
robocopy "source" "destination" /MIR /COPYALL /R:0 /LOG:"logfile" Set Source Set Destination Set Logfile path Test Sync production Disable share Run final sync Check logs Enable new share
Sorry about the rough ending. I'm still learning how to use RUclips and ended the stream too soon.
Dustin, After watching this video I've been motivated to pursue my IT carrier. I'm 26 years old with a CompTIA A+ certification supporting a local restaurant chain with there daily basic IT needs. I really have a passion for networking, I've tried studying in the past for my CCNA but get discouraged because I sometimes feel I should focus on a different area of IT. For example in security or programming. I hope in the not too distant future to land a help desk support job and move my way up the latter. I'm a big fan of your podcast, thank you for everything you do in the IT community. - Chris
Hi Chris, I definitely understand feeling discouraged by trying to figure out where to focus my time. When it comes to your career you want to ask yourself what do you want to do. Spend some time researching what the day to day work is like for a network engineer, cyber security engineer or computer programmer. These all fall under the IT field, but take very different skill sets and passions. I find the best place to start is with a general understanding of computers and technology. Your A+ cert and current IT support role is a great start. I think a IT help desk job would be a great next step. Try to avoid the call center jobs as they will only give you a narrow look into it support. Look at companies with 100+ users that need a entry level tech to help with the basic day to day IT support for their staff. After 3-6 months working in that job I bet you will have a much clearer idea of your next step. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
Great video and very educational please cary on the good work I have got pfsense in my house for the last three years and i had sophos before but i like pfsense Thanks man
Thanks! Sophos is what I used to use as well. Are you running any VLANs from the pfsense box? I'd be interested to know what your home network setup is like.
@@sysadminshow hi, Yeah I got three network cards on my pfsense one is wifi with a separate segment or my IOT network. LAN and the WAN one
