    Hello..Hope your feeling better now..I guess Hammond stuff gets put on the shelf whilst health issues get fixed:-) I havent got a Hammond yet!..I'm looking for an SKX as I like the 2 sets + 11 pin out. I don't need all singing all dancing extras i.e. pianos, just good organ. Your XK5 is lovely and maybe the SKX comes close enough for me & a bit cheaper! I got a couple of very hurtful comments on my channel & I am considering closing it. I know you have your band and I had hoped that players local to me in the UK might contact me with a view to at least having a shared interest but no.. Not feeling sorry for myself at all! & possibly going to a few jam sessions near me in cambridge could be good. All the best in 2025, both with knee and Hammond, and thanks for advice..Regards Ray

      @@raymitchell7013 Thanks for reaching out. I put out a few Hammond videos immediately after the knee surgery video, but you maybe missed them. That sucks about people’s poor comments. It happens to me every now and then. What I do is usually ignore, think of a clever and snarky comment back, or I let RUclipss AI filter out the questionable comments- and/or give me the opportunity to see them before deciding if I want them in the comments section. Unless I’m mistaken, the SKX is the single manual organ, and the Skx Pro is the double manual. Be careful, the double-skx series is gonna cost you about twice as much as the single. Stay the steady course, and keep playing music!

      Yes, he did something uniquely “patented”, that only he could do. I couldn’t quite hear it correctly, but tried my best. The emphasis for me was incorporating the Sep 24, 1969 Concerto night, version of “Wring That Neck”, with the classical solo inserts. I also wish I could have done a bit more during the guitar solo portion, other than chord comping, but I never bothered to learn the guitar solo on organ. Probably wouldn’t have sounded right anyway. Chopped C-3?

    • @B3burner
      @B3burner 2 месяца назад

      Actually, it was a chopped BV with the console of an old B-3 fitted into it. Done up in chrome & Tolex. I owned it from 2001 to 2017. The chorus/vibrato sounded excellent, as did the overall mechanical tone wheels. However… the AO28 tube preamp was replaced with an aftermarket Trek II solid state preamp, so it lost its distinctive overdrive and growl. Kind of a shame, but that’s how I was able to afford it in the first place.

    Hi, Friend, may I ask how is the key feel /action on the XK5? All other clones Ive played feel too stiff, not as light and springy as a real B3. Id be appreciative if you could provide an opionin? Thanks much.

    • @B3burner
      @B3burner 2 месяца назад

      Hi, thanks for taking time to watch my video. I think it’s close to real B-3 standards, the best I’ve seen in the clones I’ve had to compare to it. However, that being said, it’s not quite all the way there. Maybe slightly too stiff, and not quite the springiness- but darn close. To me the lower manual feels slightly stiffer than the upper. But my Xk-5 is used… Someone else had it before me… so how he broke it in is only a mystery to me. I hope that helps.

    • @B3burner
      @B3burner 2 месяца назад

      @@keyzbrazy I Googled the weight of your keyboard- 36 pounds. It can certainly support that, but since my review, I’ve noticed the legs have gotten a little wobbly side-to-side. It’s not a drastic amount, but be careful. The weld joints are a little weak and I broke them on mine. Had them re-welded, it’s usable again, but it’s not as good as it originally was. If you decide to buy it, one leg must always lay flat first, so the other can lay flat second- when you’re folding it back up. If you bring a leg down and it doesn’t want to go down all the way, DON’T FORCE IT! Instead, choose the opposite leg that does lay flat, and put the other one second. @@keyzbrazy Keeping the legs at the initial height will work if you plan on sitting at the keyboard. If however, you stand while you play, you may find the stand too low in that case. I think more important than the legs being a certain height in their "peg-holes", the diagonal piece that connects the top of the legs to the table part of the stand; have to be properly locked into place. The legs locked into the diagonal piece should be about perfectly vertical. But if not, leaning a little outward to me is better than them leaning a little inward.

      @B3burner 4 месяца назад

      @@HAROLDSIMMONS-m6f Here in California, the plate stays with the car, not the former owner, unless it’s a personalized plate. The only times the plate doesn’t stay with the car, is when the car is sold to another state, the plate is stolen, or the car is a decommissioned former government or police vehicle, and the exempt plates are removed, and the new owner needs new non-exempt plates. In these last instances, the plate is destroyed, and the old owner wouldn’t get it either. The release of liability form releases the seller of all responsibilities regarding the car, its VIN, its license plates, and any negligent actions the buyer commits, after I’ve sold it to them. Excellent teaching..I learnt in the 1960s from checking my chords against vinyl records..Putting records on&off was painstaking but as you suggest, there is no short cut..I confess to getting charts online when struggling but, in general I make my ears do the work! You'll be busy but could I ask which clone you would choose if you had to? I'm oldish and even a Hammond like XK5s or XK3 are a bit too heavy. Your sound comes across very well..I used to hear J.Smith in London in 1960s/70s and was spoilt forever by the sound of the real thing filling concert halls with leslies..

    • @B3burner
      @B3burner 4 месяца назад

      Ray, Thank you so much for the kind words. I will say I trust my ears more than the online chord charts. Many times, I find those to be wrong. To answer your question about clones, my XK-5 is my trusty big workhorse, but as you alluded to, it is pretty heavy with both manuals attached. My alternate go-to board is the Hammond SK-Pro. It's a single deck keyboard that pretty much does all I need it to, in an 18-pound package. I also use a Leslie 2100 series speaker. It's got one upper rotating horn, and a digitally simulated bass rotor. By simply simulating the bass, I don't need two rotating objects, and it therefore cuts down on the size and weight considerably. Only 50-pounds and 13" x 14" x10" high. I can fit it in the trunk of my Honda Accord. The only caveat is the sound is a little weak, and if I'm not careful, I'll overload the bass and blow the speaker. So it has to be miked to the PA for gig situations. But for practicing and recording at home alone, it is plenty loud without a mic. Thank you again for taking the time to watch my video(s).

      @@B3burner Very helpful thanks..I play LH bass and comp on lower manual generaly..I take your point re: SK-Pro &, as it splits, I could change reg. for upper portion as and when..Your absolutely right! Whenever I went to a jazz gig out would come the Real Books. When you see something printed we tend to trust it, The Real books were OK as a guide, but wrong quite often. I think I might go XK5 route as I would carry the manuals seperately & it looks good at home which will be most of the time!! My only issue with any non- tonewheel, tends to be the C3 vibrato which I do use a lot. Thanks for promoting Hammond so well. Regards PS I have 2 Yamaha DXR10s..Ok,not valvey, but lightweight with good bass for their size.

Or do you use a 1/4” to 11-pin junction box? Be careful with volume, and watch that red overdrive light carefully. I think I partially blew my bass simulation speakers. They crackle every now and then. Just a fair warning to you. Otherwise, have fun! I like it because it’s a nice portable, 50 pound alternative to a full sized Leslie 3300.

      @@Procedentesinvictoria Be really really careful with those legs! I should probably do a follow up video warning about them. I bent the hinges backwards by accident and broke the soldering from the frame. Had to have it soldered back on. And yes, the legs are not always perfectly straight. Mine now wobbles a bit. I’m sporting an 18 lb keyboard and I consider it fairly stable. However, the RD88 may be much too heavy. I’m not sure. Just be careful. I have since learned it is not perfect.

    The best explanation of drawbars I have ever seen. I have sort of a mental block with that 5-1/3 drawbar. I’ll play the video a few more times for it to sink in. Likewise, I never understood the red-dot drawbar on the lower manual of M-series spinets. It seems registrations using it cannot be duplicated on A- thru E-series consoles.

    Nothing that a little prep and paint can't fix. Honestly, they don't make automobiles like they used to. I know it sound cliche, but it's true. My dad had a '71 sedan Deville that in the beginning I was embarrassed to be seen in. Once I got my license and drove it, it became my favorite car to drive. My friends also loved riding in it, and they didn't fight for shotgun as there was almost as much room in the rear as there was in the front. Not a bad seat in these cars and with all the windows down it was even better. Good memories!

      @@B3burner You actually get a like from me. Thank you for an honest and civil reply. I hope I have perceived the electric organ/Leslie sound wrong. I don't like theater organs (at least the "basic" sounds). I hear a lot of that with any electric organ/Leslie together. My point in 1 or 2 words: vibrato, tremolo. Leslie himself (if I read right), loved theater organs, had one in his home, unlike Hammond...could actually play an instrument, was personal friends with George Wright (who couldn't get enough of the tremulants)...etc. Ironically, Hammond loved classical music and opera (which I loathe to death). That could be why many players like to sound this way, when they play. It's as if you're listening to something from...1926. I really want to see the organ as something else. It has the ability (with the right registrations) to make all kinds of different sounds. Recorded music only showed so much of that. It irks me when it is only known for (in my opinion): shouting, screaming, and really...just replacing an opera singer (when one isn't available). I hate opera too. I think any electric organ, especially the B3, can and will sound good...if one takes the time to really play with it. Piano is simply easier to learn/play. For whatever reason, I am curious about the organ (even the ones I don't like). It's what I call "train wreck" stuff. We've heard that phrase before. You do you. I'll do me. The only way you can tell the sound, from a "WurliTzer" is when the Leslie is on slow. On a theater organ, the tremulant is always fast (there's no speed setting). I often think of this pairing as an "enhanced," or junior one (different form-drawbars/cabinet). It's amazing what you learn, but I'm trying to see what you're doing (for example) differently. It sucks when all I have to work with, is what I've learned from classical music theory. How TF do the black folks (for example) enjoy their gospel music? It's amazing (I think I'm the wrong race/kind).

      @@mrnasty02106Thank you for your kind, civil, and introspective comment. For a person who doesn’t favor the organ, you sure know a lot about them- I’m impressed. Yes the attempts to make a Hammond sound like theatre organ, is in my mind hideous. I hate vibrato and will only use chorus, which on a Hammond is a much less exaggerated sound effect. The Leslie spinning fast is actually what I prefer, not speed in the tremolo from the vibrato. Vibrato actually is what sounds more like radio soap opera music from the 1940’s. If you don’t like shout music or gospel for the high screaming notes, might I suggest jazz organ- as it hardly uses Leslie and never uses vibrato. If you have the curiosity, maybe start with songs by Jimmy Smith and see how you like those. I’m not trying to sell you on organ like a cheesy used car salesman, just thought you might like to hear a slightly different style. Take care…
