Model of Douglas Harbour, Isle of Man
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.14 лет назад
Here is film of my Douglas Harbour model when it was displayed at the Birkenhead Model Exhibition in 2009. Underneath is the trackwork seen in the other film on this page. In theory the ship goes in and out of the harbour and onto different berths. That doesn't always happen as the model is very temperamental and has a mind of its own and works when IT wants to.

A test run of the moving ship coming in and out of my Douglas Harbour layout. The ship 'sails' in and out of the harbour and docks at one of the berths.
Nice no cell phones

Lol the crews Wi-Fi is anchor2021!
We had many trips like that in those days on the Orry & The Lady, surprised the Tin Can was allowed out in that weather!
Now the MV Sporades Star, still sailing in the Greek Islands in 2022. Quite a history.
I travelled on the St.Eloi when it was nearly new and operated train ferries to Dunkirk. By the time it was bought by the Steam Packet it had seen better days, but the SP did a good job in refitting it. It could handle rough seas better than the current Ben but had problems in getting into Douglas harbour. I sat in Douglas waiting to board it one day, only for it to abandon entry when it was only a few hundred yards from entry into the harbour. It went all the way back to Heysham.
So lovely that ship, I remember taking my family on it to the Isle of man, not once but a good few times wish them day would come back
I loved this ship;was an engineer on her for 2 years.
Hi - do you own the copyright on this and do you have footage without a watermark?
I thought the Seacat was great! Was a bit dodgy during rough seas but great still!
Alan Albiston.........Dear Lord what an idiot
My Dad’s last ship before retiring from IOMSPC
The most beautiful ships of the Manx fleet. Could never be replaced
Happily the Orry lives on,recently refurbished she still cruises the Med!
Lovely
Fantastic . Every inch a Lady she was
Happy days. Days when the I.O.M.S.P. had a fleet worthy of the name and their vessels were as reliable as clockwork whatever the weather.
Someone had bird seed for lunch all i can ere is chirping ...
Sister was the monas queen worked on them all great times
Your right I worked on the lady of Mann was good times
Very Close Arrival & Departing of King Orry & Seacat
Pãnågia Sõumêla / aka Lady of Mann 😢
Only happy memories of this boat! There's some rather splendid footage of her taken last year here: ruclips.net/video/PoE-VP8B8fA/видео.html I think I've read recently she's been sold again.
She wouldn't get 10 feet now the channel as been let go to wreck and ruin
Bult in Scotland?? Alisha ship building in Troon rings a bell. She had a sister boat also built by the same company, sadly she was no where near as reliable as the lady of mann
Was the monas queen lady of Mann's sister ship I worked on the lady of mann when Jonny fisher was the second steward
@@rooneydavid79yes, Mona's Queen was the older sister ship. She jad 10 cylinder pielstick engines (Lady of Man had more powerful 12 cylinder engines).
Very sad. Sailed on the lady many times. Reliable & comfortable. She could be fast as well. Nothing like the rubbish they have today.
yes this ship was great - before ben my chree (this ship had cabins on A and E deck - if you was disabled - i think had to climb the stairs to cabins) and very small lift but on ben my chree - modern cabins (two disabled cabins on same deck)
Lovely trip down memory lane. I have never used the Sea Cat, seeing that footage I'm glad I haven't. I never had a bad trip on King Orry. I took to flying from Nottingham after they sold her. The Ben-My-Chree doesn't look as homely to me and family say it's not. My holiday always started when I stepped aboard. Fly is just like using a bus, not nearly as much fun.
Nicola Thomas the Sea Cat was not made for sailing on choppy seas. I was on it from Liverpool once when it was choppy, it rolls from side to side and comes down with a bang when waves catch it underneath, nearly everyone was seasick. When it was choppy the Mona Queen , which is docked in this video, would be pressed into the Liverpool route.
With only two passenger vessels, you would think that the company would have chosen both vessels with better durability and seakeeping qualities.
The king orry used the enclosed gangway.
never went on these newer ships.... was aways in love with the little cunarders... orry, man, maid lady tinwald ect....such a shame no footage of these old steam ships seem to exist. my great grandfather was a crew member of the 1906 viking.... wonderfull ships. there a £140,000,000 rollover this week.... if its me i'll comision lairds to rebuild one off the old plans for all of you
There not steam there diesel the last steam was Manxman scrapped a few years ago
@@ebddenby8439 that’s what is said.. I never sailed on a Deisel.. I only sailed on the little cunarders and yes manxman was the last to go sadly
There is footage of these steamers. It's on RUclips under IOM memories, 3 videos by Shepherd. Not hard to find.
Devastating that she's been scrapped. IOMSPCO need another vessel to make trips like these more frequent
Always second the Lady of Mann in stormy seas but an absolute trooper nonetheless. Seeing 3 vessels in the harbour at once is a thing of the past. :(
But not for long. Next year there should be 3 passenger vessels available, and already the Arrow is used during busy periods or when the Ben is not available (as at the moment)
yes it's scrapped now
rip king orry. it now is in the moby lines fleet moby love
Excellent footage sadly shes long gone now !
I sailed on the King Orry in a strong gale. She handled it very well unfortunately though when we arrived at Heysham and commenced our turn in the harbour we collided with the Merchant Bravery which was berthed at the neighbouring link span.
LOVELY DAVE ! WE LOVE OUR HISTORY AND OUR HERITAGE THE TRAMS ARE ALL A PART OF OUR LIVES IN BLACKPOOL KEEP TAKING FILMS OF THEM !
Excellent nostalgia thanks for posting.
I am sorry that they did'nt have camcorders back in the 60's. So i could've seen the last trams running in Glasgow, as i just missed the last one to run. The Glasgow city Council were going to bring the trams back to Glasgow, but it never happened, due the fact that Scotland got it's own parliament. And it was'nt in their best interests to give Glasgow tram cars.
Wooooow! Brill, Id love to see a Manannan on that!!
According to some sources she is about to be scrapped in greece. Is this true ?
Never went on the king orry was it a stable ship.I have heard lot sof stories that she didnt cope well in rough sea.Is this true?Sailed on seacat isle of man a few times, great in nice weather but very unreliable in bad weather.
Great steam packet nostalgia !
12 CYLINDER Pilestick diesels!!!............love it!!
An unforgetable night, glad I was there on 627
This is a fab model
why is there an enclosed gangway? :)
seen pics of her the other day looks nothing like the lady anymore a shadow of her former self
this is all made out of paper!!!
except for the traffic it hasnt really changed has it.Great video !
The model of Douglas port is so amazing! I ve always wanted to do something like that!! GREAT WORK!
