How to Make Public Transport Moore Accessible for Disabled People in New Zealand
Welcome to another disability video, talking about the ways, the public transport system could be more accessible to those with disabilities. In this video, I will mainly be talking about vision, impairment, and Linus, as those of the disabilities are mainly affected by public transport, especially buses. I will be highlighting some things I think could be implemented into the Auckland public transport system for mainly buses, to make them more accessible for those travelling with vision, impairment, or blindness. While it is important to be inclusive to all disabilities, those with vision impairments often have trouble locating their bus in busy areas or knowing, which stop is theirs, wh...

    Hi ashley,I love and enjoy watching your video,I am also legally blind with limited vision and I use a white cane with a roller ball tip,I was born three months early and I was in the incubator for the first four months of my life in and out of many different hospitals.I have ongoing eye problems that have stabilized for now.My white cane is just tall enough for me to use due to me being 4'7" and I am 59 years old

    From my observation there are far more similarities than differences on how a visually impaired use a cane vs someone who's totally blind. Main difference I see is it seem to be easier for you to keep a straight line in an open space than it is for my blind friends otherwise your techique is quite similar. *also you walk wayyyy faster than my blind friends

    • @AshleysAdvice
      @AshleysAdvice 24 дня назад

      I didn't quite understand all of your comment, but yes as someone with a vision impairment it is easier for me to see where I'm going, the main reason I use a cane is because I have no lower field which means that if I'm walking without one I'm constantly having to look at the ground meaning that I can't look at what's going on around me, so use the cane when an unfamiliar environments, so that I can still look at the world around me while also dodging obstacles and yes do end up walking faster because I have more confidence, this is the same with guide dogs as well, they give you more confidence and you often end up walking faster, this is common with both visually impaired and blind users of guide dogs but it makes sense that if you're totally blind, you would still have a little bit of a confidence issue when using a cane, because it's still a bit tricky to dodge obstacles and see where you're going, I also think it depends on the type of vision impairment you have, minus is called cortical visual impairment which means that it's how my brain processes what I see, so sometimes I see more sometimes I see less depending on whether or not I'm in a crowded or cluttered environment versus an open space, there are also a lot of other factors that play part depending on the type of vision impairment you have as well as the amount of site you have, as well as how well you know the environment as well, these can all be contributing factors to fast person walks when using their cane versus without one, I only use my cane in unfamiliar environments as due to the type of vision impairment I have, I can still see a lot of of the world around me and often just struggle with crowds or stressful environments, needing the cane when I am by myself, however if I am in a familiar environment, I can often get around without my cane even by myself, so it all depends on how well you know an environment, how much you're able to see as well as how confident you are and so many other factors that I already mentioned, some people are going to be faster and more confident others are still going to walk slower or find it more difficult, again I think guide dogs are often what make fully blind people walk faster because they give them the confidence, whereas people who still have partial or the remainder of their site often only need to use a cane, or some people use nothing at all it just depends on the environment, the situation and what is right for you

    I wanted to make this video to highlight the ways that public transport systems could be more accessible to those with disabilities, mainly focusing on the Auckland public transport system for those with vision impairment or who are blind, mainly focusing on buses, as they are my main form of public transportation, but I'd love to hear from others, on your stories or experiences with a disability, using your public transport system?

    Since starting this new podcast, there have been specific topics I've wanted to discuss, highlighting the struggles of life with a disability. However this topic was very difficult to put together and I struggled to create this episode discussing the importance of financial responsibility and budgeting with a disability, as many of us struggle to save our money Due to the struggle of finding a job when you have a disability. Luckily I was able to go over the video with my sister and she was able to create this amazing new edited version, I apologise for all of the inconvenience putting together this episode for you , but I hope you enjoy how it all turned out. The sixth and final episode of my six part series will be coming out very soon and then I'll be taking a short break before the next six episodes come out, thank you so much for coming on this ride with me I hope you've been enjoying my podcast so far. This was a bit of a different episode but there were certain topics I wanted to talk about as I think money saving, budgeting and financial responsibility are very important especially when you have a disability and struggle to find a job.

    I am so excited to start using this new light in future podcasts and other videos, by having a connectable app I am finally able to have a lot more control over how I use this light stick, not only playing with the barn doors, but also with the app I can change the brightness and the colour, it also has an entire colour wheel allowing me to not only change between different colours but also different shades, meaning if a colour is too bright, instead of just turning down the brightness I can change to a lighter shade helping me to stand out. I'm so excited to be able to set the tone and mood for future videos with this really cool new light and want to thank my grandparents again for the amazing gift.

      Thanks, I'm really excited to start using it in future podcast and other videos, I like that it's pretty accessible with an entire colour wheel meaning that not only do I have the classic bright colours but I also have different shades as well so if a colour is too bright instead of just turning the brightness down I can change it to a lighter shade Which I can then turn the brightness up on, which helps to sit the mood for a video or help with contrasting between me and the background

      It's a little different when you are born disabled versus when you go disabled later in life, it's true that our community is the only community that anyone can join at any point in time, because anyone can wake up disabled tomorrow, through car accident or anything, but it's definitely a different experience living with your whole life versus only living with a few years and it's also important to remember that everybody's experiences are gonna be different depending on how long they've had their disability for as well as the type of disability you have, but I'm so glad that my video was able to help you be more independent when out and about and more confident with using your cane.

    Cooking with a disability can be challenging, especially when you have a visual or physical disability that makes it difficult to chop up or cook food using an oven or stove top, but after getting an air fryer, everything changed for me and they were so many more meals I could make, whether it was just heating up frozen foods or buying premade meals I could Heat up, it was such a game changer, but I'd love to know how you cook your food with a vision impairment and what your favourite thing to cook in the air fryer is?

    I have no depth perception in low vision so I need the cane cuz I can't tell where things are in space. Before I got the cane I had some terrible falls and injured my back very badly. So now my king goes with me everywhere. For hiking I used to hiking poles which are awesome.

      Cool, good to hear. I also have not much depth perception or a lower field or peripheral vision, but I don't really use my cane any more except for when I'm in crowded environments, it just depends on how much vision you have and how comfortable you are with your environment etc. Glad to know my video helped you, I have many other videos on my channel in my disability playlist you can check out if you have any other questions or want to know about anything else. Welcome to my 2024 channel news update, discussing what types of videos you'll be seeing on my channel this year, including my new podcast where I will be discussing topics such as jewellery, dating, cooking, shopping and more with a disability and what that's like. Along with figuring out what name I'm going to call it I'm thinking Tea Talk, but I'd love to hear your thoughts for what it should be called. I also discuss a new channel idea, hoping to get your feedback on whether or not I should create a reaction channel, the only downside is that it can be challenging to make reaction channels because of copyright issues, along with the fact that I've already watched so much television it wouldn't be a first time react and I'm worried about your curiosity, I would still be discussing disability elements as well as fashion and interior design giving a freshman on it even though I've seen the show or movie before. So let me know if that would be something you'd be interested in and what other things you're looking forward to seeing on my channel this year, along with what other podcast topic ideas you'd like to see. Also should I do any future live streams like this or would you prefer I just make regular videos?

But then I learned to set boundaries and therapy helped me to realize I don't have to deal with the overstimulation, I could leave anytime I want without shame.

    I just recently cleaned out my closet, but the video was so long I had to split it into two parts, so here is part two cleaning out my sports wear and T-shirt drawer, but I still want to know should I get rid of my Christmas dress and Paris skirt?

    Cleaning out your closet can be really difficult, especially if you have sentimental attachment to stuff, but I think I did a pretty good job at cleaning out my closet, this is only part one of two. I really want to know what you think about my Christmas dress and skirt from Paris, should I get rid of them?

    Cleaning out your closet can be difficult, especially when you've held onto clothes for a long time, but it was time for me to get rid of a few of my T-shirts I've had for over three years, as someone who shops on a budget, buying T-shirts between 15 and $30, meaning sometimes they're not the best quality, I'm surprised at how well my shirts have held up, but it's time for an upgrade, before I can clean out my closet I first have to update my wardrobe, but I know not everybody does this, so are you someone who sees which pieces you know need to be replaced and replaces them first before cleaning out your closet or do you do a big massive Closet clean out first and then replace all your clothes with new pieces?
