    A great travel vlog on my beloved capital London. The food has never been bland. The older generation like my pops and my mom but especially my grandparents. Did not eat spicy food. One they couldn't afford it and two they had no access to it. My children however are used to it and go to all the nando's and Indian takeaways. They cook a multitude of dishes from abroad. I myself love Sushi.

    That the English food is bland is the most widely known wrong thing about this country. The British Empire covered a lot of the world, and everyone started to import the food, as well as everyone in the Empire could travel anywhere within it. Especially if they had money. Not much has changed. Walk down any large town main street her and see food from ten countries at least. My own local town has several different styles of African foods on top of the usual variations, most of which I've never tried.

Lots of digging with auger attached to power drill and drip irrigation. 🌸 So nice to have trail near house, very healthy. Would love to do smoked fish, turkey, and smoked cheese (dairy fan), slow cooking retains lots of nutrients and pellets are nice renewable energy. Casseroles with lid on could be good in slow cooker. 🌌

    How thick Americans are never fails to amuse me. Once you get past the fact they use the word “ like “ in every sentence, it’s not English that’s for sure. Firstly why on earth would the food be bland ?? But the funniest thing is the gelato shop … “ it’s too old for copyright “ 😂😂😂 errrr the building wasn’t originally an ice cream parlour - I am not sure they grasp the concept of history

    Why would the food be bland in London? It’s one of the most popular cities in the world with more cultural mixes than pretty much every other city. London, Paris are the top two. An hour away from Europe means it’s easily accessible, you have some of the best meat/fish in the world, our agricultural is superior to most countries, you have the best salmon just up in Scotland.

    Thank you for making this video! I found out about this place because I wanted to go to the beach but also wanted to find a place where you could also look for seashells (kids can get bored if there’s nothing to do!) I’m hoping to go to Japan in July and stay here for a night or two, just to get away from all the bustle of the cities. What time of year did you go? How was the transport there? Did you go from Kyoto? I’m hoping to go from Kyoto and then move on to Kanazawa, but I heard the train is something like 4 hours… there’s a nice village nearby where the houses are on the water and have a place for boats on the ‘ground’ floor, did you go there? Sorry, so many questions!

      Hello! Thanks for watching and asking questions :) 1. We went in May, 2023 2. We went from Kyoto. There are actually direct trains every 2 hours. It will cost 4800 Yen one way per person. We recommend this direct line otherwise you need to do couple of transfers to other lines or buses. And it only takes 2 hrs and 20 mins. So it’s not too bad. 3. Yes there is the “Venice” of Japan there. We did not go there but we saw plenty of tour boats that take you there Have so much fun. Your kids will love it :)

    I visited there once. As a South African very much used to home-cooked, hearty meals - whole foods, slow food - I still think that cuisine in London is served to spread diabetes. I am well traveled, but was served little cubes in Notting Hill, of no known taste, texture or flavour. Whatever it was, was tasteless at best, but at least didn't kill me. A Turkish gent opposite the Welsh Church off Euston Road served me real meat. One good meal ib five weeks.

    Do have a question about travel on trains. Do the trains between cities ever sell out or require standing room? I get Tokyo is going to be bad, but I'd hate to not be able to catch a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto and Osaka which are the only cities we are going to in Golden Week proper. Flying into Matsuyama on May 1st and working our way up to Tokyo to see Band Maid on the 10th.

    • @countrymouse.ld51
      @countrymouse.ld51 5 месяцев назад

      Hi! First of all, thank you for your question :) Unfortunately, I can only speak for trains from Osaka and Kyoto during Golden Week. There were at 4-5 trains running between Kyoto and Osaka every hour. We did not need to reserve seats. We just had to be hypervigilant about which train to get on because there are so many train options including local and express lines. Express lines make fewer stops between Kyoto and Osaka. One thing to note when you arrive to Kyoto, there will be long lines for local buses in the morning because tons of tourists arrive in the morning. It’s better to arrive in the afternoon.

    The boats you were calling Houseboats. Are called Narrowboats. They are built to fit through the tunnels and 7ft. wide locks on Canals. Dating back to the 1700s. When they were used to transport goods over long distances pulled by horses. Most are now lived in. Or hired for boating holidays. Although there are still a few used for goods, as floating shops and floating hotels. Where you saw them is on the Regent's Canal. Building of it was finished in 1820. The other end of it is Little Venice where it joins the Grand Union Canal nesr Paddington. House boats are larger usually 13 to 15 feet wide and 70 feet long. Mostly found on rivers rather than Canals.

    Bland food? The yanks started that rumour in world war two because by the time they showed up we'd already been at war for over two years, we were on our knees as the ships that brought food were routinely sunk by the kregsmarine. We had nothing, & food rationing continued till the early 1950s. Mass availability didn't really happen till the 60s. After the covid they claimed there were shortages in supermarkets, lol they clearly didn't grow up in 1950s or 60s uk, now you can anything from anywhere, but if your older you'll remember that this was not always the case.

    The charity shops are not what they seem, first they have to pay for the shop plus business taxes and all other things that come with that. Then there will be wages, not for the staff, they usually are volunteers, except for the manager who will be on a wage. Then support teams and finally the Ceo will take his cut, charity shops in the UK is not a good way to give to charity because very little goes to the charity. But every little helps I guess 😅

      Most high street charity shops in the UK are run by unpaid volunteers sympathetic to the cause they are fundraising for, although sometimes they may have a salaried manager. Many of the shops are not rented, but gifted or let at a very low price from the owner until such time when they can be rented to a commercial business. Charity shops in the UK only pay 20% of standard business rates. There is an incentive to use a closed shop in such a way, otherwise the owner would be liable to full business rates. The national organisations to which the shops belong are run by salaried professional fundraisers. But even so, they are transparent to what proportion of the income they use for administration and they are regulated by the UK Charities Commission

    • @countrymouse.ld51

      @@countrymouse.ld51 To add to that. When you take something to a charity shop or make a donation to charity. You can declare that you are a UK income tax payer, Scheme is called Gift Aid. The Government then pays the income tax you have paid. At a rate of 25% of the value of the donation to the Charity. 5% more than the basic rate of income tax.
