I specify that I'm french AND muslim. Here is my view on that film : I hate this movie and the 2 actors! Omar Sy thinks like an african and not like a french, yet he asserts the contrary to counteracts his opponents and to pursue his propaganda work. He uses his notoriety to disregard french patriots who legitimately are annoyed by his movies that promotes immigration and demonization of france. And, knowing what is going on in France, it is less and less born. But the fil mindustry is very leftist in France, so, like traitors who despise french people, give him back up. François Cluzet is even worse! More than once, he insulted french people during the yellow vests movement, and has given his support to Emmanuel Macron the butcher. This movie is nothing more that woke (french made) propaganda. It is simply an import of this shi** concept from America. Unfortunately, our country copy everything that is wrong from USA.

‘Casablanca’ is renowned and is justly acknowledged as one of the most romantic films of all time but it is much more than the tale of a love triangle. Of course, it shows that the power of love can affect the human psyche, as demonstrated by Rick’s metamorphosis. This film has so many levels to it that it takes many viewings to appreciate them. The main theme is not romance but self-sacrifice as the film’s message to the world at war is to give up the personal agenda for the common cause. It reminds wartime audiences, many of whom have loved ones fighting abroad, that their situation is the same as that of Rick, Ilsa and Victor. The screenplay is so intelligently written. It is a masterpiece of complexity, containing subliminal political opinions and messages all carried along on a thrilling plot with brilliant one-liners and memorable quotes, comedic elements together with contemporary, social commentaries. Basically, the film is politically motivated because it is a plea to America to join the war. Please note that the action takes place in pre-Pearl Harbour, December, 1941. This is the the first non-musical movie to use music almost as an another protagonist, (which Tarantino does now). For example, ‘As Time Goes By’ is a valuable recurring theme and, in Paris, Rick and Ilsa dance to ‘Perfidia’ which means untrustworthiness. Michael Curtiz’s direction is multi-faceted: Documentary, Film Noir, German Expressionism, Flashback etc. He is the master of creating the plot via seamlessly connecting a series of rapid-fire vignettes. POINTS OF INTEREST AND NOTES FOR SUBSEQUENT VIEWINGS. Rick’s initial selfishness, (I stick my neck out for nobody’), is a metaphor for USA indifference. It must be remembered that the events and politics are hard to comprehend and put into perspective for modem audiences than in the actual time when the film was made. The script is a 'State of the Union' address, both for home and foreign policies. There are references to Civil Rights as embodied in Sam and, of course, the debate about America’s involvement in the conflict. Each character represents a country e.g. Two Japanese plotting . The Italian on the tail of the German. American indifference. French collaborators, the British robbed by foreign policy. Even the Balkans are mentioned via the Bulgarian couple. Rick’s actions symbolise the USA in its change in policy from isolationism to participation and ‘….the beginning of a beautiful friendship…’ is the USA and Europe joining forces to fight Nazism. There is subtle direction. For example, Ilsa wears black and white clothes and is cast in shadows and in a mirror which portrays the ambiguity of her role. The ‘La Marseillaise’ scene is the pivotal moment in which both Ilsa and Rick realise that saving Victor is more important than their own personal relationship. It also comes in just as Rick and Victor are about to argue over Ilsa but both drop the issue when they hear the music. This scene is rousing now but imagine how it must have felt for audiences right in the middle of the war when Germany seemed invincible and we need to put it in perspective in terms of world events full of Nazi domination. The facial close-ups used throughout the film speak a thousand words: but particularly note Ilsa during ‘La Marseillaise’ when her expressions show her admiration of Victor’s power and her realisation that this must be preserved at all costs. In any case... there is so much alcohol!!!! POINTS TO WATCH ‘It’s December, 1941 in Casablanca: what time is it in New York?... I bet they are asleep all over America’. PEARL HARBOUR ‘Even Nazis can’t kill that fast’ CONCENTRATION CAMPS ‘I don’t buy or sell human beings..’ CIVIL RIGHTS The Bulgarian couple keep appearing as symbols of hope and determination. In the bar room fight over Yvonne, Rick attacks the German only and not the Frenchman. Captain Renault dumps the bottle of Vichy water to represent his rejection of the Nazi- collaborating French Government which was located in Vichy. Just one example of the excellent and complex scriptwriting occurs immediately after the roulette scene. The girl thanks Rick for letting her husband win and Rick replies, ‘He’s just a lucky guy’, which, on the face of it, refers to the gambling, but, in Rick’s mind, means that the husband is ‘lucky’ because his partner truly loves him.

When rust is explaining his past after his daughter died he was explaining that while he was in houston robbery squad which is kind of like a gang unit in texas he killed a meth addict who injected his own infant daughter with drugs. He probably did the right thing by killing the man but the price for that was houston state police used him as an undercover cop as an alternative to him serving time. It was while he was undercover where he was involved with gangs (biker gangs)that were trafficking narcotics over the border with mexico. Four years later his operation accumulated in a shootout with mexican cartel members in the port of houston where he was shot in the torso twice(he killed the three cartel members). In order to make the gangs think he was dead they put him in a non public hospital which ended up being northshore psychiatric hospital in lubock texas orherwise the gangs/cartel could have looked up the hospital he was placed in. From there he was offered a type of witness relocation where he could work as a cop in another state in payment for his four years undercover while simultaneously protecting his undercover identity because the gangs think he is dead. So they offered him a position as a homicide detective for louisiana state police CID (criminal investigation division) in short he is a legendary cop for the amount of experience he got in just the first half of his law enforcement tenure. He engages in criminal activity and drug use in order to trick people and definitely follows his own set of rules but when you are as excellent of a cop as he is and as much of a genius as he is you afford yourself immunities in that line of work. His ability to survive risky life threatening circumstances has taught him skills that very few people posses in real life. It is naive to believe that anyone has ever gone through so much in one police career in real life but then again its naive to think that this stuff doesnt really happen in real life also. Id wager that you will never hear about the people that didnthis sort of stuff in real life because its all classified.

Freedom riders we're people who supported black citizens in the United States south to get registered to vote in the 1960s. It was dangerous work because many whites in the south were angry that black people were being given rights (including the right to attend school/learn to read/vote) alongside their white neighbors. Sometimes they were arrested or even killed. It is a genuinely messed up period of history and many people have worked hard to sweep it under the rug. The Federal government was charged with investigating many of these crimes because local law enforcement frequently wouldn't and many times were involved in the crimes themselves.

Thank you for reacting to this film. I am a 67 year old French woman and I am one month older than Karen Dotrice who plays Jane Banks, so I was lucky enough to be the best age to watch the movie when it was released ! You say it’s an old movie, but I don’t feel old at all 😁… ! Cinema was born in 1895, and the Golden Age of Hollywood was on its ending when Mary Poppins was shot. I guess you cannot imagine how many masterpieces were shot before ? Even in black and white or mute. The actors then were much better than nowadays : they had greater personalities, they were versatile and were served by extraordinary writers and directors. My older DVD is the first Ben Hur witch is mute (1925). I invite you to explore that period, beginning with The Shop Around the Corner (1940) an Ernst Lubitch’s masterpiece : I assure you that you’ll get a taste for those « very old » movies ❤. PS : If they shoot so many remakes, it prouves that the movies were worth it, and - believe me - the original is generally much better than the remake.

I don't think you understand but Rosemary's baby was the son of Satan himself. It wasn't Guy who raped Rosemary in that dream-like scene, it was the Devil himself who did the deed. You asked about the baby's eyes? The baby had the eyes of its father. If you could imagine Satan wouldn't have the eyes of a human being. That's why she was shocked when she first saw her's and Satan's child.

5:53 There's nothing peculiar about this. It's an *overture* , which is _characteristic_ of roadshow releases. A lot of people seem to get confused about this part, but it's really simple: it was played while the audience was still in the process of getting seated, to help set the mood, not after everyone was ready to start watching the film. Similar for the music during intermission, the *entr'acte* , to signal the audience to return to their seats.

Unfortunately you are missing the fact there are classic lines in this movie that have become iconic and borrowed everywhere over the decades. And you missed one of the funniest lines n t he movie or you cut it off...."I am shocked to find that there is gambling going on here..." "Your winnings sir." "Oh thank you very much"....the way this was edited it looks as if you did not get the joke and it went right over your head. Famous lines: "Here's Looking at you kid" [said 4 times in the movie]. "Round up the usual suspects." "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine." And quiet a few others. Many character actors and crowd extras were actual refugees from the f-ing Nazis. When they sang the French anthem and drowned out the Nazis singing, after the scene wax finished it was reported many of the cast were in tears because they actually experienced the terror of the bastards and escaped but had family members and friends that didn't make it.

You are so very wrong with thinking "this is not a horror movie"; it absolutely is. It's those modern so-called "horror" movies that aren't horror movies with all their limbs being hacked off and all that gore. That's not horror, that's terror. You know what the difference is? "Terror" is what jumps into your face, the so-called "jump scare". It scares you for the moment but does not have a lasting effect. "Horror" is what slowly creeps up your back and sticks with you after you leave the cinema. These modern slasher movies don't give you that at all (which is why today's kids laugh when seeing them them), and they bore me to death. But "Rosemary's Baby"? That's one hell of a scary movie. About not showing the baby at the end: This is way much better than showing us some kind of hairy freak baby; that would have been so cheesy. Leaving it to the imagination is much better. As to your favorite movie "The Matrix": That one absolutely sucks in my opinion. A bunch of FX does not sum up to being a great movie. Look at Rainer Werner Fassbinder's "Welt am Draht" ("World on a Wire") from 1973 which is built on a similar premise as "The Matrix" but has no FX at all. Now that's a great movie!

She is named after her mother Madonna Louise Fortin-Ciccone. Silvo "Tony" and Madonna married when they were in their early 20s and had 6 kids by the time Madonna Sr was 29, 3 boys and 3 girls Madonna was the third child and first girl. When Madonna Sr was pregnant with the 6th child she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and at that time in 63, they could only treat her and lose the baby or she could have the baby but the cancer would be too advanced to treat and she'd die. Tony and Madonna talked to their parish priest and their Bishop and decided to have the child. Melanie was born in 64, and after her 30th birthday and just before Madonna jr's 6th birthday Madonna the mother died. Madonna has said she and her siblings believed their mother was a saint and would pray for her intercession and would often pray to Madonna their mother. When she hears her name she hears her mother's name and hears a prayer and is sounded by the presence and memory of her mother. And remember the intro she sings everyone stands alone which references death. This performance is part of the second act of Blond Ambition where her character has a sexual awakening in Like A Virgin and then jn Like A Prayer she realizes religious ecstasy is the same as sexual ecstasy. Then she goes to redeem herself in Live to Tell and then a priest sexually abuses her in Oh Father and then on Papa Don't Preach stands up to the Church and the singsr was Niki Haris Madonna's longtime background singer

This is from the last blu ray edition. Somehow the restorers badly botched the color values, giving an overall ugly sepia tone, resulting in a dull, muddy look. A shame, as previous prints burst with normal, realistic three - strip Technicolor values. Hopefully, they will eventually correct this unhappy condition, perhaps in a 4k reissue.

Bruce Lee used a 550 pound bag to kick. Most of his kicks had to be slowed down, as in the 1960s green later, when Lee played Kato. He was scheduled to play in Kung Fu, but David Carradine got the part.

There is a documentary, when Jackie Chan talks about how BRUCE LEE fractured his neck, due to LEE'S SPEED AND POWER.

In the words of Adrian Belew - talk, talk, it's only talk! If this guy didn't yak so much he might be less liable to misinterpret what's happening on the screen - he might even appreciate certain of the more virtuosic dance displays better.

Do some research before watching a film. This is based on true events in Mississippi and the three young men in the car were civil rights workers. They were murdered by the Ku Klux Klan. The acting in this is brilliant.

6:00 Aunt Em saying to Miss Gulch that her faith prohibits her from telling her exactly what she thinks about her has more effect. Now Miss Gulch will be fuming about what Aunt Em was tempted to say about her, every time Miss Gulch sees Aunt Em. It's an inspired line. 11:14 Always thought the Munchkins were pretty ungrateful to Dorothy, just sending her and her little dog too, down the yellow brick road all alone. They HAD soldiers there, couldn't they have sent some of them with her to the Emerald City? But, then, we wouldn't have the story as it is.

I think the funniest insight was that one of the Munchkin guards could just have shot the second witch, after seeing the first one was not immortal, but was crushed by the house.
