Homesteading Means You Do EVERYTHING
Replacing our water pressure tank here on the homestead. While some people pay experts to fix and replace things, here on our homestead we try to do things ourselves. Mainly because we find that it is the cheaper way to homestead, the more we save on repairs more can be used for builds and purchases. By replacing our water tank DIY it will improve so many water aspects of our homestead...watering animals, watering plants, cleaning and lets not forget showering! haha
this isn't the first DIY home improvement of 2024 but it IS the first one we've filmed. Hope you enjoy.

    I dont know if i mentioned it but most people dont know that there is a maintenance item on your water heater. The ANODE ROD is a very cheap item that screws into it and should be replaced like every 3 years. Its only purpose to to attract all the stuff that attacks the metals in your tank and eventually is what causes them to rust out. I bought a rental from a family that informed me of the water heater being old but, on the side of it, they had listed all the times they had changed the anode rod out. If I remember correctly the water heater is like 27 years old.

    • @MaritimeUnprepared
      @MaritimeUnprepared 3 месяца назад

      You can buy compression fittings that work similarly to shark bites, you just need a couple of wrenches. Once I was installing a kitchen and one of the cabinets had a water line in it. I drilled the hole for the pipe, but when I put the cabinet down it clipped the sleeve of the shark bite which is also the release. The shark bite bounced off the ceiling and water went everywhere. I personally advocate for the compression fittings if you aren't soldering or using pex

    Horseradish is only invasive in looser soils in places where it rains a lot. Here in dry California and with heavy clay soils, it has naturalized but is fairly feeble and not anywhere near invasive. I had a big pot next to the clump in our garden and it actually seeded into the pot and flourished in the pot. Needs fairly heavy fertilizing in the pot to achive any kind of size, and even in the pot it is hard to harvest. I get skinny roots.

    • @AbundantAcresHomestead
      @AbundantAcresHomestead 4 месяца назад

      We have heavy clay soil and I learned from our friends that yes…even in clay soil it is pretty aggressive. Being in heavy clay makes it sooooo much more difficult to dig. I did notice that the heavier I fed it the thicker the roots. This year I top dressed it with chicken manure (November) so waiting to see how well it does…or doesn’t do?

    • @OWK000
      @OWK000 4 месяца назад

      @@AbundantAcresHomestead So it's just lots of water that make it go a bit invasive, or rather just persistant and hard to get rid of because the roots are so deep. Yeah, I was putting pee on mine in the pot which made it happy and green. Ended up just giving the whole pot to my sister who has a few acres in the woods and will divide and plant it. I still have some in the soil, here.

    Couldn't find a follow up video, did both methods work? I have a couple of peach trees and would like to be able to get some more using what we have. Thanks.

      The small cuttings and small air rooting DID work. The large air cuttings did NOT work. We knew the large ones were a long shot at best but they were set to be pruned off anyway so we thought might as well. But no the large ones didn’t produce enough root to sustain them.

    If you are putting that mess, in a trench, use a 2" PVC pipe. Run your cheap Chinese PEX inside that. Protect the PEX, insulate with free AIR and save a ton over what you spent.

      I could see that would have worked as well but we already had the drainage tile so to buy pvc would have added to the cost.

    Why don't you use pipe insulation? Get the rubberized material for like HVAC.
