Yes! I've always wanted to be in the 1% of something! I think what it boils down to is Active consumption vs Passive. It feels like all platforms are trying to cater content to facilitate a more passive experience, i.e. feed a viewer videos they think they'd like, as opposed to signing on and actively navigating to the content you want to see at any particular moment. I know that after a lifetime of being conditioned to turn on a TV at a specific time on a specific day to a specific channel, I don't mind a little navigation on YT to watch what I'd be specifically interested in. This is probably not how platforms are being optimized for the masses.

Hello Aaron. Great thought provokers here. I’m with you when it comes to how we use social media. Since getting off Snapchat, FB, IG and hiding over 400 videos I had on YT (my old work life) and just focusing on books, my life has become simpler. However I miss all my friends I made on social media!!!!! TBH, social media today is very different to what we knew. I love how you’re using Snapchat to check in with friends. Re RUclips, i agree about the Community tab. I’m finding it’s been a slow but I’m getting more comments now on it by a group of people who are coming back and fellow book lovers! I’m finding I had to close off the conduits so that I could “control” some things and only on my own interests. With Covid, lockdowns, etc my mental health took a battering and I had to basically do a huge “Door Slam” on everything and everyone just to get “myself” back. Now at least I don’t have to deal with the noise anymore!!

I disagree, I look a lot at the subscription page to see for new content. And I unsub from channels I don't watch anymore. Maybe i'm the minority, who knows... Also i still believe the RUclips algorithm uses your subscription list as an input for what to suggest. From the channels that upload sporadically or less that once a week i watch every video, from channels that upload more times in the week i watch just the topics that interest me. Either way, the couple channels i watch very little off, it's not entirely a dead subscription to them, because i do still see their thumbnails, so it's a point of advertisement for them. If they would upload something that would interest me again, i'd watch. If i hadn't subscribed i might not have known.

Spot on. Sometimes I subscribe because I'm interested. Sometimes they then release content months later and I'm like "Why am I subscribed to you?". And people do that to me too. If subscribes matters so much to RUclips, why is there the bell and all that...

You're using RUclips completely wrong when it comes to Subscribing. Which is disappointing because it can be a really useful feature to people. Your argument is like saying "Seatbelts are worthless, and they don't save lives so they are meaningless" because you don't buckle up when you get into the car.

I thought the channels you subscribed to had a higher chance of coming up on your yt feed? After that, its on the channel to retain that viewer

Honestly i just subscribe to people without thinking at all its probably over 1000 people iv subscribe to at this point . I feal like even youtube is forcing me to stop because iv bugged something to were it will randomly not let me subscribe to someone for some reason. Mabey ill go and look thru the mess someday probably not tho

I completely agree. I got 1.7k subscribers from some videos getting popular, but they don't actually care about my videos. Now I'm bleeding subscribers and I feel like a failure. It sucks, I don't even want to be popular. I made a video telling people reasons they should unsubscribe yet they subscribe anyway. It's hopeless. One reason people subscribe is to support creators. 100k milestone and etc is very valuable to RUclipsrs so they ask you to like and subscribe, etc. Or someone goes "This video was great you deserve more subs" and subscribe regardless. P.S. this is my first video from your channel I am seeing. I love the way you talk and articulate your points and you clearly know what you're doing in terms of video production (off axis mic to reduce plosives, good framing, etc.) I subscribed because I want to support you and because I actually intend on watching more of your videos. Best of luck :)

Back when it was still “Metro Toronto”. Such great memories of growing up there from the time I was born in 1989 until my family and I moved an hour west to Burlington in 2001.

We still had the gardiner bump.

The late 90s when I thought 2 semi detached 3 story house for under 500k on huge lot was too much. Waited years as the prices kept climbing to finally pull the trigger on a smaller semi detached 2 story house on a much smaller lot for almost twice the amount. Toronto is awesome except for the high price of homes…. Time sure flies when you’re having fun!

I may be weird, but I enjoy the drive through Kansas lol. I'll be making a similar drive later this year. I'm starting in Tennessee and plan on driving to Kansas the day, and then to Colorado the next. Really enjoying these videos!
