Not enough information to judge why he killed himself. Not even his age. I was hoping for a bit more insight into the implications of his incompleteness theorem, which is unfortunately often misunderstood and used to suggest that maths and logic are somehow untrustworthy.

    • @StudyingMachine-yg4th

Thank you very much for watching and for sharing your thoughts. You raise an excellent point about the limited biographical detail-especially regarding Gödel’s age-and about the deeper implications of his incompleteness theorems. The video was intended as a brief overview, and a more in-depth analysis of his life and his groundbreaking work in mathematical logic would indeed take much longer to cover properly. Gödel’s incompleteness theorems are often misunderstood, and exploring their nuances can help clarify how they reinforce, rather than undermine, the robustness of mathematics. I appreciate your interest and feedback, and I’m considering a follow-up or more detailed look at Gödel’s theories in the future. Thank you again for watching!

When memorising maths formulas should you do inter-leaving practice while memorising the formulas like for example you learn geometry formula, algebra formula and you learn calculus formula at the same time during a study session ??

    • @StudyingMachine-yg4th
      @StudyingMachine-yg4th 3 дня назад

Thank you for your question! Interleaving is a powerful learning technique, and it can be applied to memorizing math formulas, but with a bit of nuance. Instead of trying to learn multiple formulas from different topics (like geometry, algebra, and calculus) all at once, it’s often more effective to focus on understanding one formula at a time before switching to another. For example, you could spend some time studying a geometry formula, then shift to an algebra formula, and later to a calculus formula in the same study session. The key is not to spend too long on one topic before moving on-this forces your brain to work harder to recall the information, which strengthens your memory. However, make sure you're not just rote memorizing the formulas. Try applying them to practice problems as well! This will help you understand how and when to use them, which is just as important as memorizing the formulas themselves. Let me know if you’d like more tips or examples of how to structure your study sessions. 😊

You're absolutely right-Leonardo da Vinci was an early pioneer of brainstorming and visual thinking, often sketching his ideas in ways that resemble what we now call mind mapping. What a genius move to map out thoughts visually, centuries ahead of his time! 🚀 And speaking of Mind Maps, did you know that Tony Buzan turned this concept into a global phenomenon? He even trademarked the term and built an empire around it. Talk about taking an ancient idea and giving it a modern twist! Thank you so much for sharing this insightful comment and adding value to the channel. Your input helps spark more exciting discussions and connections for all of us here. :48 I did that in college. Studied two hours a night for my remedial college Algebra course, knew I was gonna crush it! and got like a 46% on the midterm. Ok. Brush yourself off, get an online tutor, some more resources and we're gonna kill it! got a 67% on the final. It takes a bit more than believing in yourself- some folks are just more inclined to certain subjects, but it seems like mathematics is the only one people are genuinely offended when students point that out. Best way I got over math anxiety was just never taking another math class/using math in the real world. Been 18 years now, going strong in the trades. P.S: I actually passed those college math classes. Out of pity from the professors, but I got my BA done.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's always inspiring to hear stories of resilience like yours-pushing through those tough math courses, even when it didn’t seem to click at first, takes a lot of grit. I completely agree that overcoming math anxiety is a complex process, and you're right that it's not just about believing in yourself. Everyone has different strengths, and it's important to recognize that, especially when it comes to subjects like math, which can be a challenge for many. I really appreciate your honesty, and I think your perspective about finding success in the trades is equally important! We all take different paths, and I’m glad you found one that works for you. Congratulations on completing your BA, and thanks again for sharing such a thoughtful comment. Your story adds so much to this conversation!

    1. Recall what you know, explain concepts to yourself, like a lecture, this way you can identify what you know and what you don't, this is not memorisation, if you truly understand something, you could explain it simply or in the most complex manner and you could put it in so many ways. (Try downloading a picture of a classroom filled with children staring back at you, and then pretend you teaching them, would you be making it simple or hard to understand?) 2. Study sessions should be 50 minutes of deep focused work followed by a (the time I recommend) 15 minute rest, I recommended literally going to your lye on your bed for 10 minutes, set a timer for 10 minutes, and "sleep", then stand up after the 10 minutes and do some mobility work, after having stayed seated for so long, and go right back to studying. 3. Develop your note taking skills, active learning is actively thinking about what you want to "take note" of, don't just write word for word, explain it yourself, this is the only way it will make sense, so get familiar with the feynman technique, this is true understanding. 4. Practice and get good using different study methods 5. Sleep (the amount needed comes down to what the person actually needs I guess, could be 6-7 or 8 I dont know, or maybe you like Isaac Newton who can go days without any...)

Thank you so much for sharing these fantastic tips! Your insights perfectly complement the ideas in my video. I especially love the suggestion of explaining concepts to yourself as if teaching a classroom-that's such a powerful way to solidify understanding. Incorporating rest and mobility into study sessions is a game-changer for maintaining focus and energy. And yes, the Feynman technique is an incredible tool for true comprehension. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video and share your valuable thoughts!

    1. Be curious about learning (knowing more), ask curiosity driven questions about what you want to know, and seek the answer's 2. Create or find a place to study without any distractions, your room with the door closed, a library etc, and stop multitasking you won't get a single task done if you do, rather, focus on a single task. 3. Develop your knowledge further from what you already know, try to relate ideas to others, think of any similarity's between ideas, like a art picture, you need to add up the details of the picture before you can see the bigger picture. 4. Learn through various ways, books, watching videos, so your brain adapts and becomes flexible, and try to apply your knowledge somewhere, practice by doing not just putting info into your head. 5. Recall what you know to yourself often, or try applying your knowledge to do something ( I like to schedule "lectures", I schedule to put aside time for a day to lecture about a topic) Ive been making these summaries and didn't even realise there were already in the description lol

And hey, who knew great minds think alike? I guess my video description had some of these gems without me even realizing! 😂 Thanks a ton for watching and sharing your awesome insights. 1. Flash cards/Practice questions, create a question of the key information you want to learn, and the answer at the back, test yourself by giving the answer without looking at the key details (the answer), recall what you know, if its right, move on, if its wrong, put aside, test yourself on the other questions first, and recall the wrong ones again at the end. 2. Create labelled folders or boxes of the flashcards, label them by how often you will be testing yourself on those questions, move the flashcards into different boxes depending on how well you recall them for box 1 can be every day (this is for the ones you get wrong, they need to be reviewed more often), box 2 can be every 3-4 days (this is for the ones you get accurately right most of the times you test yourself, your memory of the info is strengthening) box 3 can be once every 1 or 2 weeks (questions you are fluent at recalling, those are the ones that your brain has strengthened the connections with, they do not need as much time spent revising as the ones you often get wrong)

I think I disagree with this one, not that its wrong, but that's only true if done right, some would still try to write down word for word, which makes it entirely useless for understanding or comprehension, but if reflecting on their own thoughts and grasping what they can of the idea, and then putting it onto note, then its what makes it effective, I think using a notepad could still be as effective, if, as said before, they have the right approach, which is not note TAKING, but rather with the approach of note MAKING, the speed you can get from typing could be making the person not actually putting any thought into it, either way, I think both are similarly effective if THOUGHT about right, I still prefer hand written note making along with mindmapping.

    • @StudyingMachine-yg4th

Thank you so much for watching the video and for taking the time to share your thoughts! 🙏 I completely agree with your point-it's not just about note taking, but more about note making and putting real thought into understanding the material. Writing down word for word can definitely hinder comprehension if done without reflecting on the content. I love how you emphasized the importance of processing ideas and then translating them into notes. Whether it's handwritten or typed, it’s all about how effectively we engage with the material. I’m also a big fan of combining handwritten notes with mind mapping for deeper learning! 🧠✍ Thanks again for such a thoughtful comment, it adds so much value to the discussion!

    1. Build back round knowledge, recall what you know about the topic before reading, KWL chart (Recall what you know, know what you want to know, fill in knowledge gaps) 2. Summarise main ideas/points, using feynman technique (self explanation) , summarise by recalling what you NOW KNOW (not memorising) 3. Optimise study environment, clean space, desk up against white wall preferably, white noise to cancel out any distractions (if there's any noises bothering you) 4. Slown down when reading, after each paragraph, think and reflect on about what you just read, what did you learn from it?, make it make sense, summarise, clarify and jot down notes 5. Annotate!, highlight important concepts, jot down notes/in the margins, underline key sections.

My Norse families could nickname our old memory mapping skill the Yule tree technique to associated it with the old Norse christmas tree of wands known as Yggdrasil the world tree that is from the mountain ash tree species where we get our sacred Drakkar longships from that we sometimes creatively turned upside down to use as a hall roof for shelter when on land to save the tree's from unnecessary excess deforestation which is why we turned wood into charcoal or coal that last longer so we could save the trees.

Thank you so much for watching my video and for sharing this fascinating insight about the Yule tree technique and its connection to Norse traditions! It's amazing to learn how different cultures have developed unique methods for memory mapping and resourcefulness, like using longships as roofs and conserving trees. I appreciate your thoughtful comment and the creativity you brought to this discussion!

If ChatGPT came up with this story, I believe it! Just like the authenticity of the thumbnail. 😜

Ah, the joys of internet commentary! I’m flattered that my storytelling could be mistaken for AI-generated content, but I actually took this one from the book Prisoner’s Dilemma by William Poundstone. I guess even real stories sound too good to be true sometimes! As for the thumbnail-well, let’s just say I like to keep things visually exciting. Thanks for stopping by!

@@StudyingMachine-yg4th The quote "in mathematics you don't understand things, you just get used to them" is well-known, but the story around it wasn't accurate. "Prisoner's Dilemma" doesn't mention this quote at all, but it is first time mentioned in a footnote in the book "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav: "Dr Felix Smith, Head of Molecular Physics Stanford Research Institute, once related to me the true story of a physicist Inend who worked at Los Alamos after World War II. Seeking help on a difficult problem he went to the great Hungarian mathematician John von Neumann who was at Los Alamos as a consultant."... etc.

@@abeljacobi4221 Thank you for the insightful comment and for setting the record straight! I must confess, I actually wrote the book by Gary Zukav-kidding, of course! I’ve always admired both Zukav and Fritjof Capra for their groundbreaking contributions that forever changed the way we look at physics. Your intellectual punch has definitely added value to my channel, and I truly appreciate your input. Keep the great comments coming!
