Barberton, Ohio is the Chicken capital of the world! Four chicken houses serving fried chicken, hot sauce, coleslaw and french fries call the "Magic City" of Barberton their home. We ate at ALL four chicken houses in ONE day and share our endeavor with you in this video.

Thanks for doing this video! I’m trying to learn how to make Barberton Chicken and enjoyed watching all the reviews of the restaurants!😊

My mom used to work at WhiteHouse Chicken in the 1980s and 90s. Every night she would bring home, fried chicken & Hot sauce . So as a child, I would take to school for lunch. WhiteHouse Chicken. I wish the chicken was still the same, as it was in the 1980's

We were a Whitehouse Family when I was growing up in the 60's and I was surprised by 2 things: 1) They've remodeled so much that I couldn't tell which dining room you were seated in; 2) They keep the rice and cole slaw separate from the chicken (and each other) now. The outside of the building could still use a little spiffing up, though. And they need to spell-check their menu. " Original Host sauce"???

Lived in Barberton as a kid, graduated fromBHS in 1973. I’ve lived in Florida since 1981 the White House was my favorite growing up. Barberton fried chicken is the one thing I still miss after all these years. Oh and “PURPLE AND WHITE, MAGICS FIGHT”

Very nice review. I’m from next door in Kenmore, but moved to Texas in 1978. We were visiting last fall and ate at White House where my Grandma used to always take us. I thought it was a bit pricey as well.

Flavorlesss bland chicken , the breading is NASTY , A half a wing half a breast a pigeon sized leg and a back piece WTF? Cheapest worst version of Cole Slaw i ever had vinegar mixed with cabbage...french fries were soggy and greasy but edible...didnt like their hot rice but the bread and pop was good. I filled up on bread and pop. Barberton Norton chicken houses all suck taste almost identical.. Just no flavor or seasoning in the chicken and then they cheat you on a 4 piece dinner its actualy half a breat half a wing tiny leg and a back..chicken backs are for soupstock.. Ive travelled all over the U.S. and barberton/norton chicken is by far thecworst i have ever had. I lived in the area 30+ years gave them all upteen tries over the decades ..always bland chicken.

I moved there for a short while from out of state and never understood the hype either . I tried all of the chicken houses in Barberton and thought that they all were mediocre chicken at best , especially compared to the Chicken where I had lived before Down South. The Chicken was bland and not very well seasoned , it didn't have much flavor at all and the pieces were tiny . The best part about the meal / meals was the fries and hot sauce ( hot rice) .. I think that I made a few people around the area mad by saying this , but, I was just being honest , I really didn't care for it much.

@@johnhunt5542 They use smaller birds because the pieces are more tender. I felt like you did at first about the chicken (married a guy from the area who loved it and I was underwhelmed). But it turns out, it's all about the hot sauce. Eat the meal parts separately and it's a 6/10. Rather have Popeye's. But eat the sauce and chicken together and it's addicting. I dream about Belgrade's hot sauce. I'd buy a case of it if I could.

@@Verlopil I am fine with the Hot Sauce and Fries . The chicken just has very little flavor especially compared to the Southern fried chicken that I grew up with , the Barberton chicken can’t compete . I just don’t get what the hype is about !

@@johnhunt5542 I agree. I can only think it's just what they grew up with. But you'd think that with the huge Italian population (and good Italian restaurants) around there they'd want more flavor.

Barberton has this bar called “THE GARAGE”. It’s in the bowling alley across the street from White House chicken. They have these big wings that they only cost 25 cents each. You guys should check em out. They are the best I think for wings.

Enjoyed the video! Moved away from Akron way back in 1977 but still visit every year or so and always make it once or twice to Belgrade Gardens (that's where our parents always took us when we lived there).

I worked at Terrace Gardens as a teen. Too bad the place closed, I think it could have given Hopocan and Belgrade a run for the #1 spot. My current fave is Hopocan.
