Gunnar Applebaum is a filmmaker and musician from Detroit, Michigan. With a strong passion for media-based art, his skills have ranged from acting, to music composition, to film production, to directing. His first narrative short film, "The Flower Bench," was selected to college festival screenings including the CCS Student Exhibition and the Moving Pictures film premiere. He has continued filmmaking, thus establishing his bizarre and outlandish aesthetic throughout his work.
His musical work contains film soundtracks, scoring films such as Sam Tricomo’s “Dog” and Applebaum’s own, “The Flower Bench.” Combining film and music, he applies the rules of creating a cinematic soundscape, while sprinkling his strange trademarks.
While he isn’t doing film work, Applebaum takes on his own realm of more personal songwriting. Gathering several folk and bluegrass inspirations from names like Johnny Cash, Applebaum twists the motifs into his own demonic ballads of misery, depression, and death.
