The Bongos are a power pop band from Hoboken, New Jersey that emerged from the New York City arts scene, primarily active in the 1980s, led by Richard Barone. With their unique musical style, they were major progenitors of the Hoboken indie-pop community, college radio favorites, and made the leap to national recognition with the advent of MTV. Their breakthrough song "Numbers with Wings" garnered the group a major cult following and was nominated at the first MTV Video Music Awards. Along with a handful of others, the Bongos were instrumental in the advancement of the Alternative Rock movement. Well this is a first for me. I'm glad it came up on my mix here. I don't know how but it did. And I love it. Why haven't I heard this before?
I first heard this cover on Fred Schneider's show on Sirius a long time ago.
🧶👍👍👍🖐️
What an incredible version! I own the 7'' vinyl on Fetish Records with the 7'' version of this!
have everything Bongos too!
Marc Bolan was a musical genius. Missed by the Glam rock generation. RIP😢
Check out Gyasi. He's like Bolan/Bowie incarnate. He's got the look and sound down!
Keep a little mark in your heart ❤️
2:58 wow.......early McCartney or what? Amazing.
I can fart better than this butchered version of the beautiful Mad Hatter Mambo Sun!
Wow!
well then, get started - eat those beans! 🤣
LOL!
Ha!
T.Rex are my favourite band of all time and this is one of my favourite songs. The guitar sound on this is perfect and echoes the incredible sounds Marc Bolan produced. One of my favourite T.Rex covers.
0:59 killer drums
Great version 👍
Excellent 👌 I thought this was fairly new, but it seems it's almost 35-40 years old 🙂
Yup! :) Thanks!😁
Love this; thanks for downloading. Any more early vids like this would be appreciated!!
One of the best song ever!
I was very fortunate to have had a connection to The Bongos through a friend and to have seen them many times at Maxwell's and to have helped move their equipment. I was also able to see the predecessor ban, "a." The Bongos should have had much greater commercial success!
Great Bass!
have a live cassette from those wonderful days somewhere ...!!
Saw them when I moved to Boston. Love, love, love.
I've never heard this. This is a bad ass cover of this song. Very well done and well produced.
Baby Bongos
Um versão de responsabilide de T-Rex! Very Good
Every time I come back and listen to the Bongos, I am just flabbergasted by the timeless beauty of some of their compositions. Underrated classic that just gets better and better each year passing!
Such an underrated band
The melody of the 1st song has been on my minds fringes since this morning 5 25 2022
Listening to this 41 years later for a reason…
Saw at 9:30 club in DC 1988? They brought it.
i was there. unreal

1:17 great guitar!!!!
Good Energy - Mix guitars / keys. Great Singing!!
Amazing Energy!!!!
Great Song!!!!
Gotta love The Bongos then and now!!!
Interesting rendition. Very nice. I think Marc would approve.
My father had this on cassette 1982 when he was my age, he used to play this while I growing up. Thanks for sharing, takes me back to the good old days
I remember seeing them at Maxwell's, 1985, when Steve Scales played bongos. A great night! xx
Fred Schneider brought me here. (Eventually, he played this on Party Out Of Bounds on SiriusXM).
My first time seeing them was in April of '82 opening for the B-52s.
This is great ! Glad to find it
Their best ever song, awesome riff and melody.....You know I'm right.
Omg I have such a goofy story about this band and EP (Drums Along the Hudson) haha. I was the first to call the number they etched in it and left a message and they called back! They said no one else figured out it was a phone number. My friends and I were taking a guess and I said it looked like a phone number and I’d make the call. Really nice guys and funny too. Told me about the Maxwell Coffee Factory and how they could see it from their window. They either lived or recorded across the Hudson River hence the name of the EP. We talked about the band, I just saw them in Boston, and where they were from etc. They also promise to send me tshirts or something, they hadn’t figured it out yet because they really didn’t think anyone would call. Since it’s been 30 plus years, I’m going out on a limb and say the USPostal service is incredibly slow! 🤣
Haha Wow where is that phone number etched? I totally forgot about that! I don't think we had t-shirts yet at that point. Contact us at TheBongos@richardbarone.com! Yes, the USPS is incredibly slow these days :)
@@TheBongosHoboken Hi! Wow, talk about slow, including my response haha. I’m pretty sure whoever called me back was surprised anyone found the number, it was etched between the label and the last song, may have been on the B side. It was so long ago I really don’t remember. I will email you, thank you :)
Year?
Circa 1983?
Feelies, nothing more than Feelies Trying to forget my Feelies of love... Feelies, wo oh oh feelies........
thanks for this
I have always loved the sound of this song!! So happy to have seen it live in NJ a while back and soon again at an upcoming Bongos show!!
Love it and sharing it starting at 56 views! I used to play this all the time on 88.7 WRSU-FM when it was new!
