Hello! I'm so glad you found my channel. My name is Emma and this channel is all about gardening, home projects, furniture restoration, chicken/duck raising and so much more. My hobbies and interests vary largely so this channel is a reflection of that. I was born in the midwest but moved to Southeast Alaska about 8 years ago and now consider it my home. My husband and I live on Baranof Island in the town of Sitka, AK. We have 1 black lab named Nuka, two cats, Rajah and Chloe, as well as 14 chickens, 5 ducks and 2 rabbits, Mr. Pepper & Truffle. I hope you enjoy watching my videos and I look forward to sharing more of my Alaskan home with you.

I have been wanting to start this project for awhile and the volume of rainfall that we have been getting told me it was finally time to get to work. Now that it's completed I see the potential for having the entire driveway cleared and I'm so inspired. It will look so clean and well kept to remove all of the weeds and grass and leave it fresh gravel. Looking forward to another fall project of ...

Front Porch Fall Clean Up

Anxiety and gardening are the perfect combination. It really just soothes my soul and relaxes my mind and allows me to only focus on one task instead of worrying about a million others. Hope you enjoyed this quick front porch clean up. It felt so good to get those baskets put away for the rest of the year. Thanks for watching, Emma

King Salmon Fishing in Sitka, AK (Take 2)
I follow you from the state of Algeria. Frankly, you are the only one who understands the life of the world. Your life is the life of kings, the prince of poets, and the style of the distinguished. Oh, if you grant me a lifetime visa, I will visit you.
I’ll be there in about 24 hours ! 💦
I know you would if it was that easy!
Love the feed bag idea. You are blessed your ducks lay in the nesting box, ours laid on the ground and at some point one got broken I think but it caused the chickens to started eating their eggs, so your ducks are spectacular 😊
Oh that is such a bummer. I’ll make sure to tell my ducks they’re doing a great job and to keep up the good work! :)
emma please tell me why you are going to do with those million nasturtium seeds 😂😂
They’re just gonna be scattered over every inch of dirt in my yard lol
I love love love these planting videos 🥰 they inspire me and make me feel like i’m hanging out with you from across the country!
Wish we could garden together!
it’s soooo fluffy and pretty; so perfect for autumn!!!
Right? I love that it’s so natural and simple!
Turned out great! Love it🩷🌻

Hi Emma, the cake you made looks delicious. I can't wait to try it. Thank you for sharing. I also loved seeing the animals enjoy a little fall treat too! I Ihope you have a great week... Sharon from Montana
Highly recommend giving this cake a try! Boy was it even better than I expected. :) Hope you’re having a lovely fall Sharon!
What happen to the plant ?
The plant is still healthy and alive!
Did it die?
Nope!
@@emmasalaskanhome i been getting that plant over and over again and i kill it
Interesting! I hope the location close to the ocean creates a mild enough climate. I think it is ok for giant sequoia but coastal redwood best indoors dueing winter. Giant Sequoia keep soil moist is key. Enjoy and keep us posted !
Thanks for the reminder to keep moist. I’m very hopeful they will grow! 🥰
It will be just like living in CA🌲🌲
In like 20 years 😂
Congratulations to Henrietta on the high honor of Chicken of the Quarter!!! Happy anni :))
Cheers to Miss Henrietta!
Thanks for the help mine keep flying out of their range
Happy to help! I do this every year for my new teenagers as soon as they start to hop the fence.
Have a wonderful weekend
You as well!
Does it have plenty of ventilation
Yes! There is air ventilation all along the top on the entrance and the back wall.
You're going to harvest sooo many raspberries next year 🌝👍
Omg I know! The raspberry jam and fun dessert making is gonna be off the charts

I really hope you enjoy it! It’s so easy to use and consistently makes the best yogurt!
@@emmasalaskanhome just picked up the milk and starter this morning. is there any whey? Other yogurt making videos show having to drain that off.

Hi from Montana Emma! I'm glad you had a great time in Colorado. It's fun to get away and just have fun. Your Nasturtiums are beautiful! I always plant some every year but by August they start dying out from the heat. You got a nice harvest of garlic, shallots and those cute potatoes. I have really enjoyed my garden this year, I'm already planning what I'm going to do next year! I hope you have a great week... Sharon 😊
Thanks Sharon! I would love to know what some of your plans are for next year. I’m looking for inspo :)
Love your lady head planter!
Another coop with out insulation
Actually we do have all the insulation we’re just waiting til fall/winter to see how essential it is. Sitka is located in a temperate rain forest so it rarely gets cold enough to require insulation.
Mine is blue and white with no instructions
I’m sure you can use the same instructions I’ve included in the description. Thanks for watching!
I have one
Good morning from Montana Emma! I love your videos. You always give me incentive to get outside and work in my yard! Your porch looks so nice. I need to get out and clean up some of the old flowers off of mine too. It's still fairly warm here. It's supposed to be 100 degrees today so it's not quite Fall here yet. Have a great trip and hike in Colorado.... Sharon
Thanks Sharon for watching. I always love receiving your kind replies!
Yummm! I wish you delivered ~😍
Love it! 🌸🦋🌸

Hello my friend, how are you? My name is Mounir from Morocco. I am subscribed to your channel on RUclips and on Instagram. I salute you. 👍🌷👏👏👏👏Continue. Your channel is very beautiful. 💚 Accept my greetings. Welcome to Morocco
Great job! I noticed a pretty ugly comment someone had left. When you see anything like that, select the 3 dots and report it to RUclips to have it removed.
Thank you! I appreciate that. Ya it was a nasty comment for sure.
Wow! Very inspiring ❤😊
I know! Garlic is simply the best crop. You just set it and forget.
Love it!
You should have waited till those green stalks started to turn brown and wilt. You'll get even bigger garlic if you wait. I have some Russian Red I'm going to plant this fall and the bulbs are almost baseball sized. Also plant your biggest individual bulbs to produce big bulbs. Eat the smaller ones. You have a nice bed of them growing:) Also, with shallots, one waits till the tops die.
Thanks for the advice! I’ve heard quite a bit of mixed feedback about waiting til the bottom 1/3 of the garlic leaves die and then harvesting vs waiting for them to all die. I just was really excited to see how they did but I could have waited longer. I left all the chesnok red in and don’t plan to harvest for a few more weeks. :)
@@emmasalaskanhome Red Sun Shallots get really big. You can get a start of them from Gurney's Seed and Nursery. They are spring planted. Save all your big ones and again, eat the small ones. They will create more big ones.
Omg the slow mo of the bee is GOLD 😂
😂 I know. I couldn’t help myself
Hi Emma, your shallot and garlic harvest looks great! You did a wonderful job of growing them! I hope you have a great week. Sharon from Montana ♥️
Thank you Sharon! I always appreciate your kindness and support! 🥰
Nice harvest of garlic and onions 🙂
Thank you! Can’t wait to harvest the rest in a few weeks :)
Holy garlic!!!!! 😍😍😍
I know! This variety is a stunner. Like holy cow.
I found one, too. Just to let you know that small jelly jars will also work in the yogurt maker. Thanks for sharing!
Yes! Thanks for adding that. I have used a mason jar when I couldn’t find the lid once. Worked just as good :)
I just stumbled across one of these at my local thrift store. It was marked $3.00, but was half off!! Mine is the first one, clear lid with white jars. I am so excited about this. I was making yogurt in my electric pressure cooker, but the yogurt setting stopped working. (To be clear, I was not pressure cooking the yogurt. 😊) Anyway, my Salton set did not come with any directions, so I am thankful you did this video! How long do you let it ferment?
What a great find! I’m excited for you. I use mine all the time. I do a big batch every few weeks. Once I plug in the units and pour in my liquid I let it sit overnight, about 8-12 hours depending upon when I get it done during the day. Then it’s ready the next day to eat. And I just throw them all in the fridge and they last a long time. I always saved half of my last jar for starter for the next batch.

How many spoons of yogurt for only one Yogurt Maker ????
Just 1 tablespoon should do the trick! It’s not an exact science. If you add too much it’s totally fine. :) just want to make sure there is enough of the good cultures to do the job.
