Many bands have done German versions of their song's such as The Beatles I want to hold your hand and she loves you, Nena 99 red balloons and The Honeycombs. There were probably a lot more though.

They showed us this song in my 5th grade music class as part of music history, we jammed out to this song, and that was always our favorite part! We'd get all quiet and listen in to hear it. On behalf of all of us, thank you! :D
Sean Altman I like this song and another one you did with Rockapella about all the seas. You guys sang it on "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?", and it was to the tune of Billy Joel's "For The Longest Time". I've been trying to find it on RUclips (sorry, I can't help myself!) for the longest time, but have had no luck.
Sean Altman, you are correct! My 7th grade social studies teacher gave us a state capital pre-test and said anyone who got them all right could skip the rest of the assignments for the quarter. After shocking him nearly to death with my smarts, I brought my walkman to class everyday for the rest of the quarter and jammed to your music while I waited for the stooges to catch up.
Had this CD as a kid. Even saw Rockapella preform at our HS gymnasium, and won a ticket to the after concert pizza party! Good times.

This is great! Love it! There was a time when going global meant adapting to local cultures and languages. Now everyone sings in English, like at the Eurovision. Nothing wrong with the language but homogenisation ain't good.
Yes, There was a time when going global meant what you wrote. Every language had its importance. Diversification is much better. This song was also covered in Spanish & French by other good singers or groups as Enrique Guzmán, Luis Miguel, les Surf, richard anthony. Now if a song is sung even partially in English & partially in other language, it won´t get airplay in the US (Duet Tina Turner & Eros Ramazzotti "Cose de la Vita", Duet Ramazzotti & Cher "Piú che Puoi").
The advantage to this version is one hears the tune without the recorded foot stomping(on wooden stairs....and very Dave Clark 5). And, its not a sped up tape like the original hit, which the singer (Denis D'ell) did not care for because he had difficulty duplicating it live.
+B17b25guy I believe the foot stompin' is still there, but the lower level of reverb that Joe Meek favored (along with that speed-up you noted) lets you hear the rest of the track more clearly, The stomps are part of the track itself and were already mixed in. On the English version everything is pumped up. On this version Dennis appears to be having some pitch problems missing in the original.
I much prefer the original English version. The foot stomping and sped up pitch make that song what it is.
