    No sill sealer!? The wood will absorb moisture from the concrete and the wood will rot!

    Maybe I don’t fully understand jointing but could you just use the table saw to clean up the edges of the planks without your rig?

    • @DavidCanBuild
      @DavidCanBuild 8 месяцев назад

      You would have to be very skilled, also more time consuming and hit and miss. This jig Acts as a straight edge basically, the straight edge needs to be longer than the piece of wood you are jointing to be effective, because the straight edge moves along with the wood while passing through the blade. Where as, if you just used the fence, the fence stays still and won't straighten the board but just continue to mirror the opposite side. I hope I explained that properly. Have a good day.

    This is not a deck. This is basically a stud wall that he laid on the lawn.

    • @deanacousins
      @deanacousins Год назад

      He's not making claims of being a professional contractor/builder. It's still basically a deck to fit his needs. Because he is up off the grass/dirt/ground. People reuse pallets to make platforms/decks. I say, good for them to get off the dirt, and have a level area to sit comfortably on a small budget.

    • @williardbillmore5713
      @williardbillmore5713 Год назад

      @@deanacousins Compared to the money for lumber and the time building this deck that will be rotted and unusable in two years ... The little extra time money and labor he might spend to make something that could easily last a decade or more is not that much more. With a little research into how to do it right the budget could produce something useful and durable he could be proud of.

    • @deanacousins
      @deanacousins Год назад

      @@williardbillmore5713 I spent the money on the proper materials to do our stockaid fencing and deck. I'm well aware of what you were saying with the first comment. I also understand why some people cut corners for something that is more temporary. If the 2x4's he used were pressure treated for severe weather & ground contact, he may get more than 2 yrs out of it. You can politely give him tips without sounding more snobbish. You have more experience than he does. He knows he made mistakes as he said in the video. Even with mistakes, it looks good and solid. Since it's ground level, he won't have to worry about it collapsing and causing a major injury. He may use some of your advice for future reference on another project.

    • @williardbillmore5713
      @williardbillmore5713 Год назад

      @@deanacousins The scary part is that people who don't have any more knowhow than this guy will get cocky from watching a few RUclipss and start building decks ten feet off the ground that can and do, actually kill people. I guess if he knows enough to recognize his limitations and sticks to decks that float on the lawn, what harm could come from it.
