Immediate follow just from the title ahahhaha Edit: I tried looking for banned books in my country (Portugal) and I couldn't find any. I think there are two random books that are banned in Portugal and that's it. But you when we used to have a lot of banned books? During the dictatorship. Our dictatorship ended in 1974 with a military coup but before than a lot of books were banned. It's really different from the US since (from what I understand) the books are only banned for school libraries so you can still buy them and read them, but any form of censorship is censorship. If you think about it, it's like there is a tiny dictatorship in your schools. Anyway, I hope y'all are well there with the elections and everything. And if you ever feel alone due to that just know that everywhere in Europe we are heading the same way

Not reading even half the books you own has become a collective meme more than an individual issue to address. Reading has become another activity fueled by the adrenaline of consumption rather than a hobby where you strive to find those pieces that touch your heart to collect. I just purged my bookshelves because of realizing my behaviour regarding reading wasn't aligned with my values. Thank you for sharing your insight on this, more people need to open their eyes!

I found a charity shop near me. 3 books for £1. Absolutely love it. Also there's vinted, and World Of Books. I love them all for books. WOB does dvds and stuff too, all second hand. Love it

Ive seens so many tiktokers making jokes about how they dont read half the stuff they buy or buying multiple copies of one book. It really pisses me off.

Definitely a video I don't think has been made yet on how books are talked about in popular culture these days. I feel like I've seen every other criticism of booktok and takes on a lot of other kind of overconsumption but never together! I've really been enjoying using my phone and the Libby app to borrow books from my local library (and the library of a city I used to live in that is much bigger and has better selection); I'd love to put them on an e-reader but I don't think that works in Canada last time I checked. I've definitely also read a lot more since starting to do that since it's so easy to get my hands on new and interesting books, and I'm more willing to try new stories since it's free and I don't have a physical item to keep forever. Books are so hard to get rid of, nobody wants to buy when you list them places and the thrifts where I am are always overflowing with books. All the more reason to be choosy about which ones you buy, since your shelf is probably their final destination!! And love the bit to vote at the end, particularly in local elections! They get so ignored and it's so tragic.

Great video! It seems like for many people being a reader equals having many books. It frustrates me that people apply sustainable thinking in many parts of their life but don't do it when it comes to reading

That is why I buy from charity shops, £1-£3 per book, and I can find unique stories.

Once a week I go to the Goodwill Wholesale Outlet (aka the Goodwill Bins) and I usually score with great finds) but I’m selective too because don’t want to acquire excess clutter, mainly I look for practical, useful items.
