Anderson’s are an investor in Victory Amp, Chapman Guitars and their own Eastcoast guitars. Makes sense as they are a main retail outlet here in the UK which a massive Online and RUclips following.
Hi, does this guitar have a lot of noise with P-90s? Thanks!
@@AntonioCavicchioni I mostly don't really notice or care about it. But I also am not at volume or hopping around to different places.
I've recently bought the standard Revstar with p90s. It's by most well-built guitar, and it scratches my itch for something "different." Bottom line: I found a guitar that I like as much as my Strat.
@@IcanhearClemFandango Hell yeah!
This is the first video I've seen where someone complained about the balancing of the pickups in the Pacifica. I think it's just down to the pickup height, the neck and middle pickup looked to be almost flush to the body of the guitar you played.
@@varanzmaj Oh it's definitely that. Maybe a bit of I don't often pickup up HSS guitars as well. But for $1400 CAD, the pick-ups should be setup balanced from factory imo.
@@GitShiddy AFAIK they come set-up out of the factory, however you picked one up in a shop. I've seen great guitars bent out of shape in shops. simply due to poor handling of the shop staff, or at requests of potential buyers. It's very rare I pick up a guitar in a store and just click with it instantly, unless the guitar is set up just the way I like it. Don't knock this guitar because of one experience, as you said Yamaha makes great guitars, and the one you handled probably just needs a good setup.
@@varanzmaj Completely agree. I actually found it incredibly comfortable to play, zero issues with the instrument unplugged.
I've had this guitar in my cart for 1 week now, I still can justify buying an Indonesian Fender, should be branded as Squier and half the price at least.
@@Ruperth316 Where something is made doesn't matter. Every mass produced guitar is well made. The only thing that matters is if you vibe with it. If possible for you go try one.
Good topic, but need more volume. Yeah just getting into Revstar now, but never ever considered Yamaha for a serious guitar before I discovered Revstar.
@@skye7690 Really appreciate the volume critique. I've switched to proper editing software mainly because of the volume limitations. On the same page about Yamaha & the Revstar. I liked Yamaha as a quality start point, but now thanks to Revstar, I like Yamaha no caveats.

@@666kr Eh?
Locking tuners. Pull them tight, lock them. $44 done
@@Glensully The felt I ended up with works perfectly & cost $1. Also where are you you can find locking tuners for $44? The cheap ones in Canada are $90.
@@GitShiddy Guyker 21:1 i got. in black.
I’m looking to buy my first nice guitar and am keyed in on Yamaha. Leaning to the Pacifica, only because I don’t want HH at this time, but it will be a revstar. I can’t find these guitars anywhere to play. What store are you at? Big store or local? Also might go Schecter Nick Johnston. Thanks.
@@kenblevins3611 It's very difficult to find them in stores. Yamaha wasn't expecting Revstar to sell as well as they have. In fact the only reason I got to play one in my store was a clerical error, none of the chain's store were supposed to have stock as mandated by Yamaha. I've managed to play a handful now and the P90 ones have all been fab, the HH I've found a bit underwhelming. On the S-type Pacifica vs Schecter. I have no experience with the Nick Johnston but I dig it aesthetically more than the Pacifica.
Yeah , I found this to be a bit of an annoyance to, seems like it bothered you a lot more than me . Nice guitar btw it looks exactly like mine. Might have to try this, it’s especially annoying on the high strings with the way I knot my unwound strings.
@@jonthehermit8082 Yeah that bit of felt underneath has made it much simpler for me.
Since you're in Canada you should check out Tex amps. He builds amazing Vox/Filmosound style combo's that are light years ahead of other builders of this style of amp.
This is cool but why didn't you get a 179 or 385 model?. Those are much better/easier to convert than this one. I have both of those and they sound incredible, as you mention it I also have a '56 Masco ME-27 identical to Rhett Shull.
@@keiranbradley3238 I got this because it was for sale. That's it. No thought.
Sounds awesome dude, nice sparkle to that clean tone as well 🤘
I bought a used Pacifica years ago, and I still I own it. That let me to try the THR amps, and I still own them. The Revstar is next on my list. Yamaha knows sound - they have for years. I don't give a damn where it's from - good is good....period. My Pacifica gives me no problems like my other guitars like truss rod adjustments when the temperature changes, etc. It's my most reliable guitar, hands down.
You did good! Better than all other brands...... have fun with playing that gem! 😊
Geeze, just think this guitar will end up on the used market, and you wont know about the disater under the tail piece until it's too late.
I assure you I'm not selling this ever. Plus....there's literal video evidence of any work done to it. Which you've just watched. Thanks for watching.
Correct! In Indonesia the RSS20 costs 450 USD!😎
I like Tom, i a big fan of blinks, not sure i should get this guitar or a second hand gibson sg’s with that price point
Best thing you can do is try one if possible. Though I would say that about any guitar purchase.
use a capo, bruh
Came here because I read your Revstar comment over on Cordy's. I liked this topic better, despite owning a Gen2 Revstar. But your shirt is gold. Props from a cis straight dude.
@@JonNewquist Thanks. I also like this shirt, and topic.
Well that was dumb
Sure was.
i think the major psychological aversion to Yamaha stems from the misunderstanding of howJapanese corporations' function but even I admit having an irrational impression of how great the quality be of guitars made by a company that makes jet-skis ,microwaves ,ice machines, medical incubators for premature babies and massage chairs etc(although the opposit could be argued)
@@gavrilopricip11 It's definitely a good point. That because it's just a part of Yamahas businesses and isn't some bespoke guitar builder thing. Though, I feel it's a bit outdated if you look at all the other MI companies diversification. I mean there's no Fender microwave yet, but there is a Marshall fridge.
Why am I not playing a Revstar? I actually own the Element and I barely take it out of the case. There's nothing really wrong with it as far as playability. It's the color. I have the swift blue and even though I liked the uniqueness of it at first, I've grown to despise it. The whole color selection up and down the range is absolutely putrid. The best color the offer is copper red, and that's only available in the UK and Europe. Which is absolutely mind boggling. There's also the slider switch which feels cheap, and the high pass filter doesn't do a whole lot, but thats another story. I think that maybe one of the reasons why more people don't play them. Unless you go up the range and spend more money, you're going to be stuck with neon yellow, or an unnatural blue color. Currently black is the best choice they have to offer. It's like what Henry Ford used to say, You can have any color as long as it's black".
I can kinda get on board with the colours. I'm no fan of "traditional" guitar colours I prefer gaudy, sparkly, etc therefore I appreciate what Yamaha has on offer but stripes & fades are just not it imo. Of the Elements that Neon Yellow is the one I like, and I got my Standard instead of a Premium because the colours didn't appeal. Will say they are a poly finish & if you're confident enough, or dumb enough, stripping the paint isn't that hard (I did a spray can refin to my Dano, it looks charmingly crappy). Or more intelligently use that guitar as a trade up. If you've fallen out of love (well first change the strings & see if it's still a no) it's good leverage into something you will.
I have the same guitar in black and have had no issues with the bridge.
I have the baseline Element model in Swift Blue. It might be the best value, but I'm starting to detest the color. I would very much prefer red or even natural. Also, the slider switch that seems to be pulled directly from aTelecaster. I'm not a fan.
Alligator 🐊 clip
I don’t really understand the issue. When is the string ever so loose that it falls out?
This could be me, very big fix for a small issue. I also have a Revstar and re-stringing is a little annoying. Perhaps just glue a tiny magnet in at the end? the ballend wills tick to it. however i don't know if this would somehow magentize the sring and interfere with the PUs... But, they should have slottet it an an angle...
Yeah it's just annoying enough to be frustrating. A lot of people have recommended great ideas, everything from the most expensive option of locking tuners, to the easiest (easier than what I ended up with) using a capo to hold the tension. I don't know if magnets would interfere, but I do know (as I ended up with here) it can be solved simpler than you initially think.
Why not using this king of clay used to stick things on the wall that can be removed easily and is not sticky and just put it on a string, tune and so on?.
Wanted something a bit more permanent.
Can this guy GIT any shiddier?
Yes.
You could have solved it more easily with masking tape, which can be easily removed after installing the strings. Just an idea.
It's what I used as a proof of concept. And is likely smarter.
Or you put all the strings on. Hold them with a capo and then do the wraps
A couple of people have said that and honestly...I feel like an idiot not thinking about doing that.
A couple things. First, that is a HOT CHASSIS and you could zap yourself while playing your guitar. Look into that. I think it needs a transformer too. Also, no need to have someone make you a cabinet, just buy a smaller vintage-looking guitar cabinet and install this into it. And mount that cool looking vintage Filmosound front plate on the outside so it can be seen! The tubes get hot, so use plenty of ventilation.
You're correct. The guy who got the amp working installed a safety cap (if memory serves) and told me to get a transformer. Sadly he quit where he was working & I'd have to find someone else to finish the whole thing. As well as doing some more research into this amp. Luckily people like yourself are always willing to share what they know.
@GitShiddy Get yourself an old ammo can and a transformer FFS!. Don't want you going up in a blue flash,,,,,,,,
Locking tuners my man. I put back on the original tuning pegs to from the front they still look like stock. Problem solved.
A couple of people have mentioned them. And while I personally have zero interest in locking tuners, it's definitely a good solution. So good Yamaha should be looking into doing it.
There are plenty of problems with the new Revstars, but that’s not one of them. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Every jazz guitar tailpiece has that issue and somehow everyone survives.
I'm clearly not a Jazz guitarist. Thanks for watching.
what other problems do you see with the new Revstar
@@damienhenriquez9754 Pickups are a little bright. Everything else is fab.
me and a buddy just got 3 of these to restore. Very tightly packed chassis, but it’ll be a fun project for sure
Я твой десятый подписчик. Я из России, Тюмень, Западная Сибирь
Ты чо - в старом колхозном новоебенёвском клубе лабаешь?
Потому что я бедный.
@@GitShiddy интересно, что тебе перевёл гугл?
Had the same issue. Put locking tuners on - problem solved
I'm not particularly a fan of modern locking tuners. Especially when the stock tuners are good, and I don't want to spend money. That said, Yamaha should definitely consider swapping over to them whenever they update the Revstar again.
Changing to locking tuners will help. I am planning to do it in my RSS02T
Personally I'm very much not a fan of modern locking tuners. The tuners are great as is, and why spend $100s for what's only a minor inconvenience.
I can’t quite tell where the power transformer is on this model? Is it caged? I have a 302 model where the power transformer was elsewhere in the projector, but very similar to the 285 with standouts, just no place on chassis to mount it to. Maybe it will end up as a good thing? I have to figure mine out. Did yours have the neg feedback switch? A great some what affordable speaker to pair with this would be one of the Magnavox P-232 (large alnico-ribbed) speaker)-same as Jensen P12N. I’ve put in two, one for my Falcon, and another for Reverberocket. They sound killer. Lovely amp-thanks for sharing.
Just had a look the output transformer is physically behind the power tubes not in the cage (but near it).
@@GitShiddy -I could see the silver sheen of what I thought was output; I was wondering if the Power Transformer is in the perforated cage?
@@GIBKEL Nope. I have no idea what part of the circuit is in that cage but it's not the transformer.
@@GitShiddy cheers-everyone of these through time changed. I’ve got a massive grey transformer that has a 18” cord where it was mounted inside the projector and with a silver Schumacher output transformer that’s attached to the chassis. I would think it would be a cheaper easy mod to get a piece of aluminum from a metal shop and drill it out for the shielding on the bottom. I have a vague memory of running into cabs built for these for not a whole lot.
no power transformer in the 185. it uses series filament tubes
Why not just set and tension each string, clamp it with a capo and tune it?
That is definitely the easiest way & someone else did point out that's how they do it. As the title points out....I over thought things.
That thing is so cool looking. Blast from the past.
It is a lil nasty from the pasty.
Thanks for pointing out that “one small issue” I still think it’s a worthy mention. I was wondering how those were strung up. Appreciate you sharing that.
It's not really that big of a deal. I'm just less familiar (and a bit stubborn) with slotted tailpieces. Just thought it'd be a bit informative. Glad you got something out of this. Cheers.
You had to do any work prior to powering it up, didnt u? Thanks in advance!
Oh yeah. I bought it non-functional & took it to an amp tech. He did the work. New power cord, a couple new tubes & a bypass of the photocell circuit. That is how these old projector amps picked up sound, via light.
@@GitShiddyCool stuff! Sounding great dude.
Dig it 🤘💥
Supro sounds the best on this end
Is this amp sturdy enough for heavy ambient Modulation.?
The clean channel stays pretty clean given its 5 watts. I wouldn't recommend it for gig situations but at home it'll work... probably. Definitely in a dual amp rig.
sick jam i love the vibes. You are inspiring me a lot, that is also my dream and i am currently woking on it maybe i can inspire you too ;)
Thank you! I am particularly content with this jam, which doesn't always happen in hindsight.
What's your opinion on this one vs the revstar p90 please?
Very different concepts, and different applications. I kinda want a Junior so I'm picking up a lot of single P90 guitars. Most of them have fat necks, this Gold Glory does as well but somehow it's actually comfortable to me (I much prefer 60s style necks) and the pickup (Seymour Duncan) is great. Actually prefer that pickup to the Revstar ones, they were a little modern for my tastes (dropping the volume pot value helped that though.) I could see adding the Gold Glory to my arsenal, but I can't see it replacing the Revstar. The Revstar for me is exceptional. It's my answer to "if only one guitar?" especially for the money.
