Amflow PL Carbon review. Peak District range test & can them 36's handle some fast rocky descents?
'Real ride' range test with impressive results I think!
Proper ride test, not just looping a favourite trail until the battery dies!

Great bike Heard the paint is shit
How'd you find the dropper, i swapped mine out because it was arse
I changed everything on mine bar the front wheel and shock which I’m changing for a coil! I thought I had different stem on mine?🤔 I need to check as I removed it straight away and put a hope one on!👍🏻
Out of interest which shock are you going for? I’ve been in contact with a dealer and also Amflow and they don’t recommend the Fox DHX, Fox say they don’t like their coil shocks to be used on bikes with a yoke link as it potentially causes premature wear however I am waiting for the the review by robridesemtb to be posted to see what his thoughts are from the custom build that he built up.
@stuartrobertson2890 I'd be more interested in a genuine amflow owners opinion who's bought everything with their hard earned cash than what Robridesemtb says. Nothing against Rob as I like his content but you get what I mean 🤷
@@dave_waudbyI get what your saying however £600 outlay on a shock that Fox say isn’t suitable for a yoke suspension bike could be a costly mistake and as he was trying one it makes sense to at least listen what he has to say
When I contacted Amflow they said the bike was tested with ohlins and rockshox, I questioned why not Fox as both their bikes have Fox front and rear, the technician was going to query it with the design department but I’ve not heard anything back yet.
36 was the defacto single crown fork for gnarly stuff for years . Its plenty capable for a bike like the Amflow
👋 Merci. Une belle vidéo 👍
Great video Dave, I’ve not seen any of these bikes here in the Lake District yet. Looking forward to seeing one in the flesh soon. 😉
I'll be up there on mine as soon as there's a decent weather window, its my favourite place in the uk to both ride and hike. ❤
@ Ah, nice one Dave. Forecast looks ok next week lad. 😉
Fantastic vid mate , been thinking of buying one . Seems to me the high end bike rattles and yours doesn’t…
Not sure what's going on with the elusive rattle, seems some rattle and some don't. It'd make more sense that something other than the motor internals are causing the rattle such as cables or something that could be slightly differently assembled with every build, surely the motor assembly is a constant and pretty much each one is identical 🤷
Awesome! I bought this bike for exactly this sort of ride, do you have a route to share? Cheers!
@s4mmyd1980 I've replied to one of the other comments with a link to my mates strava so you'll find it there. 👍
That’s literally miles better than my EP8 on those trails in this weather. I range tested it flat out (in turbo) when the battery was new and I was quite fit at Dalby Red (so less challenging by some way for a battery) and got 30 miles and 3000 ft. It has a 630 kwhr battery and is bolted into a SC Bullit. Very impressed!
Although the dji motor is very powerful they seem to have made it quite efficient aswell, pretty impressive.
Do you have a strava link for ride?
strava.app.link/wqwxsOhfgQb this is ride my mate recorded, my garmin missed abit😖
Good video - thanks. I've ridden the peaks once on a trek rail and found the bike too much of a lump on many of the technical ups. This looks better. Your bike seems quite than Will Greenfields' bike , but that might be a difference in your recording equipment ?! What bike was your mate on? He seemed pretty quick.
I think Will tweeks for the sound (and doesn’t like noise - he’s just changed his brakes from MT to SRAM for that reason rather than changing the pads 😂).
my mate was on a giant reign, 170mm travel, factory suspension, real nice bike and yes hes pretty quick. No motor rattle on mine although i probably wouldn't have heard it over all the rocks smashing my rims and downtube 😀
How much battery did yr m8 have left?@@dave_waudby
Also which power mode did yu use?
@bikemad @bikemad he didn't!! He took a spare battery in his back pack, he used his 750wh up and maybe a third of the other one which I think was a 500wh. His 750wh battery isn't great, it's not at 100% health and runs down alot faster than normal so that was a factor in him taking a spare battery.
Good ride lads, that porsche not up there anymore 😂
🤣
Just come across the channel looking for amflow reviews, great riding and editing, got a sub from me👍might have to have a trip over to these trails.
reaally cool video. may I ask, on which hill would i seacrh, to find those incredible trails?
@@weekendbikingwarrior360 Dalby forest
Same opinion of the bike! Only changed the tires and the stem => perfect for me!
I understand your point about the rubber ring, but with an IP 56 rating, the Amflow PL is built to handle water jets. No need to stress over a little water
Can i use your voice for an xxx movie 😂
I have the MT5 brakes and they have been really good. No pad movement at all. Two things you can try to make them better:1 upgrade the pads to sintered. Magura brand only uses resin pads no matter what level. 2 your pads are probably the 9P series (two pads linked together). Try the 8Ps. They are the individual pads that bolt in, and should reduce any movement or play
Cheers for the info, I've just ordered some galfer pads on someone's recommendation, they are what you call the 8ps so will see what difference they make.
@ your welcome. Also don’t forget to lightly sand and clean your rotors, to get the old pad material off, before you bed in the new brakes. I’ve made that mistake before
Everyone saying it’s normal and that’s what to expect. There’s IP ratings for a reason. This is not a cheap ebike and a simple seal would have helped. It’s never going to be 100% waterproof especially with a jet wash ( and no you shouldn’t be using a jet wash) but something is better than nothing. It’s early days yet, but this screen seams to be the weak spot on this bike. I’m sure the Gen 2 will sort these issues out. Just not great for such an expensive ebike.
Looks like the electronics are sealed?
Whats the speed limit and why its there? can it be unlocked?
Speed limit is 25kph in the UK, its there because I think our laws would class the bike as a motor vehicle if it went over 25kph, you would then need insurance, road tax, mot etc to ride it on the road. I don't know of a way to unlock it but someone will figure it out.
looking forward to trying one im riding a haibike flyon 120 nm and 900w power but 28.5 kg so will be nice to ride a lighter bike
It rides great, if you try one you'll want one 😉
LOL, the weak point is the guy with a hose......stop spraying the bike.
It's a test dude showing what happens when people use hoses and jetwash which is reality.
@@dave_waudby In that case, try fire because its a test
Where do you get your carbon front mudguard please ?.
Rockguardz
Water ingress is common on loads of bikes, either via cable entry points, headset assemblies, and top tube e-bike controls. The ingress is massively increased when spraying a hose at it. The Fox compression lever is normal. It's due to how the cam seats onto the metering rod inside.
Just going to throw this out there. It's just plain crazy to think you are washing your Emtb this way. Spray it with some truck wash and at best use the shower head on the nozzle. The bike will come up like new. Directly spraying the electronics with high pressure is stupid. Emtbs are awesome, but they need TLC, not brutality, when cleaning.
@echidna1263 I wouldn't normally spray water directly onto a display, this was a test! There are plenty of pro riders and pro youtubers promoting bike cleaning products and using jet washes in their videos, in the real world hosepipes and jet washes get used everyday on ebikes, this video is just highlighting what happens if you do.🤷
Dude his spray was less than when it's raining in UK 🤦♂️ No seal is just bloody stupid on an electric system designed to be used out doors. Sure it MAY have been more directed than rain but after 30mins in rain it's damn near identical. If its not water tight water WILL get in
@@dave_waudbyit's also showing what WILL happen if it rains........in the UK.......aah. No gasket seal is just guaranteeing problems later with anything electrical
@@ac1dflare937 It's an iP66-rated sealed display module as stated. IP66 rated products are protected from water splashes, sprays, jets, and submersion. They can withstand water jets from any direction using a nozzle of 12.5 mm or smaller at higher pressures.
i'm no fan of amflow bikes but any bike with interior routed cables will have leak issue where the cables enter or exit the tubes
We have noticed the issue you are currently experiencing and apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you. You mentioned your concern about the waterproof capability of the control display due to the lack of a rubber ring. The PL Carbon is rated at IP 56 (withstand water jets), making it suitable for riding in various weather and road conditions. However, it's advisable to avoid leaving the bike parked for extended periods in rainy, sandy, and similar environments. Additionally, our product design has taken this into account, with drainage holes specifically designed in the frame. We also noticed the issue of noise when using the brakes. For this, we recommend that you visit our website to find the nearest dealer or contact the dealer from whom you purchased the bike to schedule a comprehensive inspection. Ride safe and happy new year.
@Amflow-o1g thanks for the info, it's great to know you are listening to riders concerns 👍
@@dave_waudby Dave, would you be willing to send me photos of the display unit off the bike with a rule as reference? I would like to create a o-ring mold that might help with the issue. I would share the model freely if it ends up working out.
I would say not many emtb's are designed for the uk weather at all😮 and the weather we have lately is just soaking wet all year around! Spray trails ✈️ are making things worse
Keep up the video updates, this is super useful info for any potential Amflow customers!
It always amazes me that manufacturers that are making OFF ROAD Products don't seem to truly test their products out in the real world. If you're a manufacturer and don't understand your product is going to be in Mud & Water a lot of the time....then it's not fit for purpose! Yes everyone is going to jet wash or hose off their bikes....or whatever. Hope V4 brakes for me 👍 love them. Check regularly Disc Rotor fixings, they can come loose a lot on ebikes. I live very close to Dalby Forest, if you're looking for something new to ride, get in touch, I know loads of other great stuff to ride in the area.👍
The electronics are sealed inside and out.. All bike frames have water ingress points. The only thing they need is a water exit point at the lowest point of the frame to avoid pooling. It's not possible to completely seal a frame.
Hi mate. Yes had multiple magura brakes. The mT5 and mT7 I’ve had all suffered from the noise under braking and wheel “wobble” they are decent brakes but I strongly recommend the race pads for a quick cheap fix. The difference in braking power was unbelievable. Cheers 👍🏽
@jayparker2396 thanks for the info, is it magura branded race pads you recommend or a different brand?
@ hi yes sorry. The magura branded race pads. It’s won’t stop the wobble on the wheel as its the magnets on the calliper piston moving slightly. But it will make night and day difference to the braking power.
@jayparker2396 cheers for the advice 👍
Thanks for your review 👍🏼 What kind of front mudguard is that?
Rockguardz
Amflow fans and bell ends 😂😂😂. Straight talking Dave saying it like it is…….Top man. Great video lad.
Cheers mate 😂
Your stem steerer tube interface should not be greased at all. Only grease or loctite the hardware.
I've not touched or removed the stem since I picked it up from the bike shop, I need to remove the stem and clean the interface that's all.
@@dave_waudby I just watched another video of a guy riding the same bike with that stock stem and his was twisting while riding as well. That combined with how much flex that stem seems to have gives me a bad feeling about them. I would swap it out if I got one.
It’s the same on my shock, going to change it anyway just deciding on whether to go for a coil or better air can?! The Avinox system is waterproofed, as in the battery, motor and display so I’m not too bothered by that! I’ve changed pretty much everything on the bike! The only thing left is the shock. Not a fan of those brakes either, first thing to go!
Keep calling em bell ends! 👍🏻
I fancy an Amflow but just can’t pull the trigger on one
fabulous review from a guy who clearly knows his stuff, I have a PL Pro, had an SL, not at your ridiing skills but I love mine. Have ordered Alberts Radial for mine as the stock tyres skit way too much. Fab video Dave.
Cheers, I'm hitting the peak district tomorrow so stay tuned, we'll see how it handles some fast rocky descents 👍
Pretty sure my levo has no rubber seal round the TCU either, but there's no issue on that. I expect the water is intended to run down the inside of the frame safely and exit at the motor drain ports or something. In the same way a car's gutters work.
Some great riding down those trails, definitely steeper than they look on cam.Making me wanna get back to dalby soon for some off piste👌
I was out of breath just watching that.
Trails look so good
Never been to Dalby but looks like it’s got a lot of stuff that’s right up my street! Will have to make a visit. Is this stuff easy enough to find, is it in the same sort of area or scattered about the woods?
You need to know where to look, check me out on strava Dave Waudby ⚡️, will give you an idea.
@ Nice one mate, thanks for that. Don’t know if you’ve ever ridden Chopwell Woods, but that’s my local and me and some of the lads have made a lot of the off piste stuff in there. Nowt on what you’d have by the looks of this vid, but some fun stuff dotted about the woods all the same.
@@hiroshimahatwill have to check out chopwell 👍
@ It’s worth a look if you know where the best trails are, mostly short but fun stuff. Check out my channel for an idea of what’s there as plenty Chopwell vids on it 😉
Nice riding there Dave, was there last Sunday. Along with Yearsley, Dalby is our go to ride within an hour travelling. We only ride the off piste stuff, apart for the top sections, the Red is shite. It was riding well, some were slick, Monster Munch in particular!
Not done yearsley yet, will get there this year, how's it ride when it's wet cos let's face it, it ain't gonna dry up anytime soon 😢
Me again (lol) yeah had the same issue on a few fox shocks (comp lever)
Have your maguras got 2 or 4 pads? Per caliper ?
2 pads per caliper, they are the type where the 2 pads at each side are connected together.
Diy gasket made from a piece of 2.8 innertube ?
Water ingress around the display with no seal on a £6k bike isn't good...... English weather winter riding, thats defo gonna be an issue
The display is a sealed unit just like electronic modules inside a car engine bay where rain gets in. Don't see folks complaining about that in the UK ;)
@Ddraig62SPD obviously the display is sealed we're not idiots!! IF you took any notice you'd have seen there is no seal between the display unit and the frame. THATS were water gets in, So try again 🙄
Sooo glad i came across this video, Im looking at getting an EMTB in the Spring and this one is on my short list along with a YT Decoy 4 & Orbea Wild. Im same height as you but 5kg heavier as been too unwell to ride as much as nomal over the last 6 months. Obviously ive watched all the 'pro reviews' so good to see an unbiased ride/opinion on the kind of trails i like to ride. I've subscribed, thanks 💪👍
Deffo physically try one for size, they are on the smaller side for size!
@dave_waudby yeah I've ridden a few Ebikes my current Anologue is a medium but EMTBs always seem to be/feel that bit smaller so I'll defo be going for a large. I'm still unsure on the AMFLO as its more trail and I'm looking more Enduro. See how the test ride goes on the Spring I guess 🤷♂️
I'm on my 2nd Decoy, the bike is great but the service in Germany is awful. The guys in Surrey are very good mind.
@ElvingtonredBiking yep my mate has a Decoy and we're only an hour away from their Guildford base. They've been quick to sort all problems he's had and they have test trails you can book to use. I may still go the Decoy route, I like the Orbeas but the fixed battery puts me off. The issue I have is manufacturers like YT/Orbea etc have literally years of MTB and EMTB R&D whereas AMFLOW and DJI are new to the game.....Reliability/longterm performance warranty response etc etc all unknown....
