Play Further From Your Guitar Amp - Radial SGI System
I changed the stock fan on both my Deepmind 12D and Mark V 25 for noctua models. The controller is a nice touch but I would still recommend a better fan. The stock one is simply awful.
Super helpful!
Thanks!
Great video! Thanks!!!
🎯🙏🙏
I have enjoyed this session but, I wondered why you didn't care to sub mix or use a mix buss. Other than that, it was interesting.
Submixes are often overused nowadays as a fad for "easy" mixing or 'required' to get a good sound. "Less is more" will always be better than any fads or shortcuts. Submixes should never be a default or a "just because". They should be added for 1 of 2 reasons: to organize or to process. This mix was small enough and well labelled enough that I didn't need to organize tracks any further. As for processing, this video series had the goal of being as simple and introductory as possible, so I didn't feel the need to add any submixes. If I were to add a submix I most likely would just add a drum sub to kind of glue all those drum tracks together a bit, but I see no need to submix any of the other tracks. In the end, the proof is in the pudding, this track was mixed with all stock plug-ins and kept as simple as possible and it sounds pretty dang good. "Keep It Simple Stupid" and "Less is More" are powerful slogans to mix and live by.
I always use a Mix Buss.
Musicians have the coolest job, but it’s still work. People see the glitz and glam aspect of it and fail to realize it’s musicians’ jobs to entertain us and provide us with a service that is in the form of music. I grew up watching my dad DJ and it was pretty cool, but I’d also seen him talk to clients and draw up contracts. Not to mention picking out CDs or making mixes specifically for a certain event = stress. However, at the end of the day, if you’d go through high water for your job then it’s worth it.
😍😍😍
excellent video Ben!!!
I usually always put EQ first in the chain but I’m not sure if that’s the best way to do it 😶
Thank you for the video might try to recreate and build this
This is an insanely succinct and prime tutorial. Using this for teaching!
Thank you!
Congrats
True art
Top shelf tutorial! I am a MIDI-maniac (in Logic Pro X), due to a mangled finger, a subsequent operation, and resultant arthritis. To be honest, I never was a great "real" instrument player anyway (though I never let that stop me), so MIDI allows me the delusion that I am an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. lol
Thanks! I guess MIDI makes me think I'm an amazing drummer (MIDI keyboard version) as well. Love it!
This was a fantastic video! Thank you so much!! I thought I understood phase far better than I did, this clarified it perfectly for me!! Thank you sir! This video deserves far more views and likes!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video Ben. The clear explanation and visuals were very helpful. I think the home recording community would appreciate these 5 - 6 minute tutorials on single recording topics. I know I do.
That's the plan. We have more in the works. Thanks for watching!
i think there was just a lot of voltage hanging out in there yeah?
if amp has line out is that different than the thing you have set up w the DI between amp/speaker or same as. thanks!
Yes, the line out is better because it's before the power amp and usually sounds better than the speaker DI.
whoa really great vid!
Thanks!
I solved my problem with my Ashdown combo amp by installing a potentiometer. This way I can adjust the fan speed to my liking. Easy!
The sensor can probably be put on the heatsink… With a mica isolating pad and nylon grommet over the bolt to stop it shorting or arcing. I’m guessing Ampeg use those separated heat sink sections for each side of the push pull to avoid having to isolate the output transistors from them.
that twin sounds real tasty, great video
An interesting way, but you did not tell what temperature the sensor needs to be calibrated to. And why not replace the fan with a less noisy one?
We just left ours on the default temperature which was about 86 degrees Fahrenheit. We debated on replacing the noisy fan with a quieter but decided to do the controller instead. It rarely turns on, only with heavy use.
@@thedawstudioofficial thanks. I read about it on the forums. Absolutely everyone is annoyed by the fan noise both on this model and on the PF series of amplifiers. Nevertheless, absolutely silent fans, of course, do not exist.
hmm my mesa boogie bass head has a horrible fan sound too. it has tubes or just one maybe. strange bc tube nor SS guitar amps never have fans. maybe it’s not so necessary to have it at all..

about to utilize this information! thanks
Very good
👍👍👍
PC shops carry the 3 pin Molex connectors and leads. Disconnect fan from board, connect fan connector to male Molex w/ leads, connect those leads to the temp board, and couple temp board to amp board using a female Molex w/ leads. It's the same thing, but it allows for removing of the temp board without having permanently modified the amp if anyone is worried about evidence of modification due to warranty purposes.
That's an awesome suggestion!
Have you done this yourself? And if you haven't, would you mind making a video showing him it's done? :)
Great video! Thank you!
Sounds like I just need to disconnect the fan's power supply for home use, and connect it when using it in a band setting.
You could do that, but we've found that in our mod the fan kicks on only sometimes in the studio and often during live shows. It's kind of a safety net to prevent permanent damage to the amp so completely unplugging the fan is probably not the best option.
How soon do you find that the fan kicks on?
@@Mandeezee as soon as I turn it on
Rarely in the studio. It's kicked on when I've played live after about 20 minutes into the set..
Very nice video. I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us on the topic of guitar recording. I was just wondering, do you place the SM57 in the same spot even if you are just using an SM57 on its own?
Good question! Yes, that would be a good starting point, and that goes for the ribbon as well. We have more guitar videos in the works!
You did a good job with this! Cudos to your editor as well.
