I appreciate the song. I heard a song that was bit different. It was was written in the 1880s. My great great grandparents were the owners of the Faughanvale Bar --the O'Connor family. One of them was called Liza Jane O'Connor- the wife of my greatgrandfather's brother. The other two brothers shagged off to America. But a number of sisters and the children of the one brother stayed in Derry, All around Faughanvale & Tullyverry. But a beautiful song.

Beautiful! There’s intrigue in thinking I could very well be kin to this man of Antrim, the land of my paternal ancestors. Would love to visit sometime and really soak up the people and culture. Thanks for posting.

(continued) The account given by Brackley's son is different; according to him, Farquharson of Inverey, with a band of armed followers, came to the house of Brackley and commanded the Laird to restore his cattle which had been impounded. An argument followed during which Bradley and his brother were murdered.

According to the lyrics page at ingeb.org: The events described in this ballad took place in Strothdee on Sept. 7, 1666. John Gordon of Brackley bought from the Sheriff of Aberdeen fines "exigible from Inverey and others, for killing of blackfish." Brackley refused to offer a settlement and his followers "...loused severall shotts" against Inverey's party who, in self defense, opened fire in return and killed the Laird of Brackley and his brother William.
