Tavern Archery is a RUclips channel for people interested in prehistory to medieval target archery as it relates to the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA). In this channel we look at various types of bows, thrown weapons, atlatl, combat archery, horse archery and any other sports included in SCA Target Archery across the Known World.
Tavern Archery is about learning from experience archers across Kingdoms. We learn skills from these people who are generous with their time and knowledge to share with us. We learn tips and skill builders. We learn how to create targets and set up fun and challenging archery ranges. We learn how to construct equipment and maintain it.
This channel is not affiliated with the SCA in any manner. It is a channel of SCA archers wanting to share knowledge of Target Archery to other archers in the SCA.

Pretty soon the Order of the Sagittarius will not be the highest Order. The Ranged weapon Order should be finished being developed hopefully within the year.

I got hit with an arrow before I took a swing with my sword. Yeah that happened a lot in the Midieval era.

Wow!!!! Am high-power rifleman; shoot compound bows also. Want something more basic. Compounds are very much like high-power rifles and are losing their challenge to me. That is why I am moving to Yumi; I will be a more "complete archer" then.
All this safety crap takes all the realizm out of the battle, the arrows should be designed to be able to do everything that a normal arrow can do with the exception of penetration on impact and they should be made so the person being hit will definitely feel it i hear that alot of times the melee fighter won't respond when hit , they are allowed to deliver very hard blows to an archer so the archer should be able to drill em fricken hard with an arrow perhaps then archers will get more respect. I also hear there's alot of bitching and whinning when fighters get taken out with an arrow do they bitch when taken out with a sword...no . I will do everything I can to campaign for more realizm and heavier bows maybe 60lbs with smaller lighter , harder points so there will be no mistaking when you get hit . You can about see the point getting taken out by some piece of fluff shot from a 35lb bow would tend to piss you off .
If you don't understand the importance of safety, you don't belong on the field. Period.

Manchu bows go 35" to 36" Draw lenght, not only 34".
Absolutely correct, historical arrows on average were one meter plus five and a half inches long and could weigh over half a pound. They weren't super fast but that arrow was known to regularly nail two men together both in armor. The idea that arrows could not defeat armor is Absolutely false they just didn't go through all the time

Thanks! It is a fascinating subject and Naran Noyon has agreed to come back and talk some more on these Asiatic bows. Unfortunately, the camera could not get a good angle to see the craftmanship because these bows are beautiful.
