This is well detailed. Thank you so sir
If I am measuring on a person rather than a dress form, how do I determine the intersection of the princess seam with the waistline? On the front, the princess seam crossed the waist directly below the bust apex, but I don't seem to have a corresponding reference point for the back of an actual person. Many thanks for this great tutorial!
It is a custom measurement that's straight down from the bust apex. Measurement will be something like 3" or 3-1/4" (or 3-1/2" for plus size) from the belly-button on the body.
@@ProfessorJamesChannel Thank you for the prompt reply Professor James! I understood the location of the Princess Seams on the Front Bodice, it was the Back Bodice that I wasn't certain of, as I don't have a Bust Apex to guide me on the back. However, your reference of 3" - 3 1/2" on either side of the navel is helpful. I'll take my Back Bodice Princess Seam measurement at 3 1/2" on either side of the Center Back line at the Waist. Thank you for your tremendous generosity in sharing your knowledge via these tutorials. My physical abnormalities combined with a short, wide, and grossly disproportionate body pose a clothing challenge. You are helping me get closer to my dream of adding some nice, well-fitting garments to my wardrobe. My deepest gratitude to you!
Yea, on the back you can do 3” away from center back. Plus size you can find their shoulder blade (scapula) and it’s is pointing down like a “v”. That’s where the princess panel should aim towards.
Professor James, I like your idea of draping, and I would love to see you continue the series. You should definitely make more videos, as these are super helpful. This content is important for anyone who wants to take their sewing to the next level. I really hope you keep making videos like these.
What size is this dress form?
Royal Form 2006 - Size 4 (remember this is not the same as "retail" size 4)
Beautiful, Wish could live in his era :)
So clear and informative
Do you have to block muslin if your draping to create a pattern?
Can we use this illustration for holo sequins?? 🤔🤔Reply me sir
yes. this is how to do it. same tools and technique.
This was so amazing. I am in awe. This is how I make pants from now on.
🙏🙏
Oh my ! Why they don't teach like you in fashion schools. So much easier and at the same time so precise! Thanks. ;)
I was looking for instructions like that for a long time. Thank you!
I hope you’ll continue making your exceptional RUclips videos ~ I have been impressed with every one of your thorough, concise, precise and educational drafting videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
What a tragically underrated video. You answered 3 questions I had in the first three minutes, after I had spent an hour trying to find the answers. Thank You!
cheers. keep in mind that these skills are for muslin mock-ups and sewing with silk/dry clean only. (doesn't apply for washer machine garments)
The height explaination makes sense in why you would start to do it that way, but the width arguments are just because people have been drawing them that way up until now
Yes, keep the height and the adjust the width accordingly. (This is not for plus sizes,)
❤
Not once did I get bored, was glued to all the 5 parts… thank you for teaching to those that want to learn😊
Thank you Prof. James. I must say I was lucky to stumble over your videos and happy that I sat through them for I learnt loads. Your patience shows a lot in your explanation and I must say, many other videos, I watched, lacked the detailed teaching and tips… thank you for imparting your knowledge, God bless.😊

I love the idea of taking front & back measurements separately ~ because, naturally, people’s body isn’t always the same size in the front & back.
I subscribed within the first 5 minutes of listening to you! Thank you!
Great video! Haven't drafted a yoke in years and needed a refresher. Question, 21:00 min. mark your pant started w/double back darts. If working with one dart, and truing up CB do you split the difference between CB yoke and CB body so the angle of the CB doesn't become too severe? Thanks in advance.
Yes Single Back Dart = split the difference into two darts and move them apart. Close the two darts and now you will have a smooth curve for the yoke-seam when you true it up.
Hi
Wow, I’m a petite women these type of pattern making works better for me I’m very excited to try your method to get better fit Thank you very much 😃♥️♥️

Wow , You are such a amazing teacher! no teacher teach this block muslin like you.
Thanks so much Professor James! I am enjoying all your videos. I have learned so much from you!! I have spent the last 6 months learning and taking an active part in all your classes on a daily basis. I am now looking forward to creating designs with far more ease now. You are the best teacher and I love how much detail you offer us in your videos. Again thanks so very much!! 🤗
Thank you, thank you so much for these videos so detailed , they are very helpful
Hi James. At time on your video.. you are closing the dark legs and tape on them down. I’m not doing darts because I want to do pajamas. You’re about to use the curve ruler to put a curve at the top of the waist. I like to know since I’m not using darts. How far from the left to the right should I go up and make the Line Straight across and make the back higher then the front? I don’t want the front and back waist to be ever straight across, cause when I sit the back of the pants will go down lower,
Hi James. I have a question. I’m trying to make a pair of pajamas out of a pair of jeans that I have. The jeans fit good, even in the Waist and crotch. But the pants jeans legs are to small around the legs. So I need to add more around the legs for pajamas. So where is my start point should be to add more ? With out messing with the waist and crotch on my pants.
The easy answer is, don't start with finished jeans. If you are doing your own patternmaking, then do this series 1-3 for the "custom pattern block". Pajamas will fit amazing in the waist, hips and crotch depth and you don't need any darts if you do elastic waist. (Note the draft goes up to your natural waist = eventual you will cut this down a few inches for top of your PJs)

I just finished watching your Jean series, which is absolutely amazing! You are the best teacher and all your content is exactly what I have been looking for. Wow, your amazing! Very clear and great teaching!! Thanks so much for sharing 👍
Why not include the hip area in the block?
That's not for this block. That would be a "torso" drape. You need to do different darts and draping rules.
Thanks for uploading 🙏

Hello professor james I have a question What is sector width in men's size chart
I don't know what "Sector Width" means? We don't use that term in US/English for apparel making.
