  • @terrysoule8441
    @terrysoule8441 14 часов назад

    Simple story... from Obama on, and this was rife across the services, the leadership was more focused on what we now call DEI than it was on the mission. Advancement was less based on merit and more on affirmative action. Especially in the lbgt community. This focus has really caused suffering in civilian circles as well. Look how DEI screwed the citizens of LA during the fires.

    Thanks for posting about this, I'm in the DEP and I've been wondering what current members think about the firing. I believe the president is trying to make a strong statement in his first few days in office and so he is implementing a lot of changes, especially in leadership positions. Personally I didn't know enough about the former Commandant to say whether this was necessary or not but from what I can tell from you and other forums it seems to be more or less business as usual on the operational side. Only other noticeable thing was the removal of all DEI programs which we will see if it really affects anything in USCG or not. Thanks for your perspective as always!

    Hi henry im a little confused. So do you actually obtain one of these bonuses that you mentioned in this video, even if you go as a non rate? Or do you have to score a certain score to qualify for these bonuses?

    • @Henry_Fargo
      @Henry_Fargo 2 дня назад

      Great question! Here's the breakdown: In order to receive a specific bonus, you must meet all the associated requirements. For example, if you're aiming for the CS bonus, you would first need to consult with a recruiter to ensure you're eligible and complete the necessary paperwork. Once your contract is in place, you'll go through basic training, followed by "A" school. After successfully completing "A" school, you'll receive the bonus tied to that rate. However, it's important to note that once you receive the bonus, you’re required to serve a certain number of years at that rate. If you fulfill all the necessary requirements, you’re good to go! But if you don't meet a requirement and still receive the bonus, you'll be required to pay it back. As for the quick ship and sign-on bonuses, they’re straightforward: as long as you complete boot camp, you’re all set. Just remember, the bonuses linked to a specific rate are the ones you'll need to focus on to ensure you're meeting all the conditions.

    How is the joining process for permanent residents in the Coast Guard?

    • @Henry_Fargo
      @Henry_Fargo 2 дня назад

      Joining with a permanent residency shouldn't be an issue. I have a close friend who recently became a U.S. citizen through the Coast Guard, and the process was largely the same as for anyone else. However, he ran into a bit of trouble because his recruiter didn’t take proactive steps to help him with the citizenship process. Ideally, if you have a good recruiter, they’ll ensure all the necessary paperwork is in order, so by the time you finish boot camp, you’ll also receive your citizenship. Unfortunately, for my shipmate, things didn’t go smoothly. He ended up having to reach out to the administration and get help from Coast Guard legal support and lawyers to get the process moving. Once things were underway, it took about four months, but now he’s officially a U.S. citizen. I’d recommend working closely with your recruiter to get the citizenship paperwork sorted out before boot camp, if possible. That way, you can avoid any delays and hopefully get everything squared away in time.

    How much debt can prevent you from joining?

    • @Henry_Fargo
      @Henry_Fargo 2 дня назад

      It depends on your specific situation. As long as you’re not in collections and are making consistent payments, it usually won’t be a major issue. I’d recommend speaking with a recruiter to review your circumstances and see if a waiver might be an option. If a waiver isn’t possible, it’s not the end of the world. You can take some time to pay down your debt enough to meet the requirements and get in. Once you’re in, you can use the quick ship bonus to pay off the remaining balance and be all set!

    For anyone watching. Knowing your 11 general orders word for word before you get there will be an insane advantage. Take a watch that has some kind of light up feature. Nothing fancy. As long as its face can light up dimly. Use that to study your handbook at night. And for god sakes bring your own black running shoes. It’s gonna suck. Good luck.

    • @Henry_Fargo
      @Henry_Fargo 10 дней назад

      No, not necessarily. This depends on what vessel you are attached to. On a boat, you could have about 3-4 CS depending on the crew size, and it can be all different ranks. Usually, if you are new, you could have a schedule no one wants, such as making dinner. If you were responsible for making dinner, you would arrive around 12pm and work till 7pm, then take some downtime. If you had breakfast and lunch, perhaps 4am to 12pm, then you are free for the day. This is how it was on a 210 Medium Endurance Cutter, but hopefully, this gives you a better Idea. Hope this helps:)

    Great video guys. Very informational! I think I commented on one of your videos yesterday or a couple days ago. Heavily looking into the Coast Guard now after being medically denied from the AF. (Past injury, I’m fine…all my Dr.’s cleared me and I still got denied….and still work a manual labor job everyday…go figure 🤣) But for real…I’d really love your guys’s advice about what rated job to go after where I most likely won’t end up on a cutter…I was greatly chasing cyber operations for AF, got a 78 on my ASVAB…32 with a wife and daughter. We want a fresh start. I understand there’s missions and there will be times where I have to go underway and be away from my family. That’s part of the job, same with the AF I was prepared for deployment. I just don’t want to sign up for something that’s going to willingly put me away from them for months at a time. I was kind of dead set on SK after all my research, until you guys said that you’d be surprised that they can end up on a cutter as well. Any advice would be great, I haven’t even spoken to a Coast Guard recruiter yet I just got the official DQ from the Air Force After they reviewed my waivers this last week. So I’m taking the weekend, researching as much as I can and then calling to recruiter Monday 🫡👍🏻🇺🇸 thank you guys for all your time and your information. I know you guys are helping so many people out there, including myself 😎

    Does being married and having a kid release you to the economy right off the bat once you’re done with basic and AIT? Curious of going this route now, I’m 32 with a wife and daughter and just got DQ’d by the Air Force for a past injury. I’m looking to go coast guard now instead. I planned on signing for six years with the Air Force, so my plan would do the same thing with the Coast Guard. Does that mean like with the other branches I would get to go home to my family every night wherever I get station and still get BAH and food allowance all that stuff? I just don’t wanna get stuck somewhere in a barracks and sign up to be separated from my family if I don’t have to be.

    • @Henry_Fargo
      @Henry_Fargo 10 дней назад

      I'm glad you reached out, but I'm sorry to hear that the Air Force didn't recruit you. The good news is that you still have a chance with the Coast Guard. From meeting people who have been in the Air Force prior service, I can tell they love the CG and wish they would have gone this route from the beginning. I'd like to start with your first question. The answer is "YES." If you are married, you will be released to the economy as soon as you get to your first unit; even when you go to A school, you could live in the economy with your family. You will not see a day in the barracks if you are married. The Coast Guard is a significant branch, and the leadership is excellent. You will have so much support. Depending on your rate and billet, you will sometimes go underway. The time frame depends on the size of the boat. I would focus on a rate you enjoy versus the time underway. Choosing the best rate for yourself will give you a prosperous career in the CG. If you are attached to a boat that goes underway, you sometimes leave for about 2 months or 3, depending on the mission. But there are sectors that you could be attached to and never go underway. Some smaller Cutters go out 3 days or a week at a time. Are there any other Rates that interest you other than SK?

      @ all great stuff! thank you so much for the kind words and support bro! Just watched another one of your videos again today! Great stuff 👍🏻 I am really intrigued by MST as well, I’ve watched some stuff that BM’s do and it looked fun. Between those 2 and SK those all seemed like ones I’d be interested in for sure. I’m just worried because the video you made of possible A school wait times, i’m nervous I’d be waiting a while. That’s really awesome news that I can live with my family during A school though. If I got into the Air Force, we planned on them not doing that and just coming to visit on weekends occasionally because I would’ve been going for cyber security and that AIT school was a long time. Isn’t there now a Cyber MOS for coast guard now as well? I’d be interested in that too!

      It is not necessarily credit, but most importantly, they want to assess your finances to prevent bribes. So, having tons of debt can look bad, especially if it's in collections. They could waive it, depending on the situation. I hope this helped.

      I would recommend MST, IT, YN, OS, and all aviation rates for the highest chance of a land unit. There are some rates that you don't have to always be underway, but at some point, you need sea time under your belt to rank up. You'll be surprised how many people join and have never been on a Cutter. Don't let the Underway life scare you; it's actually really fun, and you get to build strong relationships with your shipmates.

    Thoughts on the YN or SK rating? I’ll be 26 by the time I enlist, looking for a chill job with a good work/life balance but I do still want to travel and experience that adventure. I’ll also have a bachelors degree by the time I enlist but not sure if I want to go the officer route just yet and would maybe rather transition from enlisted. I like working hands on so also thought about BM but not sure if the work/life balance is there.

    • @Henry_Fargo
      @Henry_Fargo 25 дней назад

      If you want a rate that will give you the best work/life balance, YN, OS, IS, IT, SK, MST, or any aviation rates are good options. BM is also a good gig, but you will have to get your hands dirty here and there, which isn't too bad. BMs go underway often and sometimes have to deal with non-rates, which can be rewarding if you are a great leader. If you are a hands-on person and want to get a little greasy, MK, DC are great rates, but they do work long days, which can be overwhelming at times. If you want to explore a little and aren't sure which rate to choose, the Non-Rate route isn't bad; you will shadow many rates to see which you like. Of course, since you are 26 and have a degree, try to talk to a good recruiter to get a better judgment and see if there is a critical rating that works for you to save time. I think you are in a good position, and whichever route you take would work out for you. lastly, any underway billet will give you an opportunity to travel the world, so if that is what you seek, consider the Polar Star. Wish you the best!

      SK/YN at land units will provide you with something like a 8am-4pm M-F.

      I was taking a look at the MK rate, there’s a 30k bonus. I know there’s a bonus because most people don’t want to fill the slot. But from what I’ve read and researched, MK can be involved in the LE side of the coast guard, which is very attractive towards me. Though I have no mechanical experience at all but I’d like to learn. Also piggybacking on what you guys mentioned in the video, I can skip the non-rate path and get started on my rate and advancement. It doesn’t sound appealing to be a non-rate for a certain amount of months when I can maximize any financial opportunities as well as quick start my career by choosing a critical rate. Any thoughts or input?

    Do you have any tips on a military member switching over to the CG

      That is a very good question. I have met a few shipmates who were in prior service, such as the Air Force, Navy, and Marines. We talked about their past experiences with other branches; they tend to like the Coast Guard. They always say things like, " I should have chosen this branch from the start or "I appreciate that I am not just a number here". But I don't know too much about the transition and if it's difficult at all. It'll be a smooth adjustment for you. I'm glad you are choosing to switch. Good Luck with everything, and let me know if you run into any issues.

    At min 36:00 he gives the answer I think most of us coasties would give. That is "I do not want to tell you no, because for a very specific type of person they love it, but shit man, I am hinting at no" haha

    Currently in right now, and if I had any advice to someone looking to join, all I would say is make sure you REALLY consider other options and (as wrong as this may sound) your status in life.

    What if you’re reserves ? Will we stay active duty while waiting for a school?

      Sadly, you will not stay on active duty. You will still have to wait to put your name on the list, then go once you make the top of that A school list unless you have a Boot to A contract when signing up. But get with your recruiter and see what options you have. Things are constantly changing.
