    My dog tilted his head, kept shaking his head and kept scratching his ears after we took my dog for haircut and the groomer told me that they had plucked my dog's ears. Since the situation wasn't improved after we tried to observed him for 2 days, we finally took him to the vet and he got the ears infection.😢

    The "upside down V" .... great instruction. I have been grooming our little "Morkie" for about four years now. I never seem to get it right when it comes to trimming above her eyes. It always looks like she's wearing a visor. I remember hearing ... don't cut everything off between her eyes because it's meant to "hold something up .." like a bridge. So I've been wary of cutting there. But this "upside down V" is the part I've never gotten right. I'm going to give this a try. Our little dog has silky hair and she is high maintenance. :). Thank you for the nice video.

    When I try to cut my dogs nails, it seems the nail starts to twist as I apply pressure with the clipper...am I doing it too slow? I want to be able to cut them at home but I'm scared to and my dog gets scared too because I'm nervous. Please help with any suggestions you can ❤ Thank you!❤

      Plucking excess hair will help keep the ear canal open, and decrease the potential for ear infections which is a painful and avoidable condition.

    Does this hurt the dog

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets 9 месяцев назад

      This shouldn't hurt the dog if you are plucking very small amounts of hair close to the root. if a dog has an already irritated ear this could be painful. Veterinary advice should be sought in this instance. Thanks, Heather

    Does it hurt the dog?

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets Год назад

      If you do it gently and a little at a time it shouldn’t hurt them, however, if it is left to grow it can cause ear infections. Some dogs don’t mind at all whilst others are more sensitive to it.

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets Год назад

      Practice stroking her head and in between her eyes with the scissors closed and with your hand whilst giving her treats. This will slowly desensitise her to the scissors. Then you can gradually start making small trims around her eyes.

    how do you keep the dog still?

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets Год назад

      Unfortunately, this can be the hardest part most often. It's best to get a dog used to getting their face touched and brushed from puppy age, however, start by rewarding them with treats whilst holding their chin and stroking between their eyes and the tops of their head and cheeks. Keep building up their tolerance to being brushed and remaining still with positive reinforcements like treats. In some cases we find some breeds are sometimes better than others as working dogs breeds or have working breed traits can be more hyperactive. The more a dog is used to be handled and comfortable with it the better they will be at being calm and still.

    Good video. We have an English Springer. In between grooming seasons at the groomer we have issues with her paw pads getting overgrown (which is a safety issue). This is the first video I've seen that shows scissors can be used. (I hold the dog (with treats) while my wife clips. But I think we need better quality scissors. Thank you for the video.

      This is a basic trimming guide for most dog breeds that require trimming around their eyes excluding dogs with eyebrows such as Schnauzers. It's always best to visit a groomer for a professional service, however, this video is to help those who weren't able to do so during lockdowns or for those who would like to keep hair out of a dog's eyes between professional grooms.

    Thank you for taking the time to make the tutorial. As a DIY'er, due to unavailable grooming appointments, I've decided to try "a bit" of grooming at home to give my Gracie some relief; feet, face and backside. I'll leave the rest for the groomers. Is it possible, for you to explain why we'd want to keep the hair between the pads cut? There are those that know they should cut the hair, but don't really know why. Also, "my observation only", I found the music a bit too loud and way too busy for a video that should show calm techniques. It made me anxious, instead of relaxed. I had to mute it. Perhaps, a bit more soothing music would present better. Again, thank you for taking the time for this.

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets 3 года назад

      Hey! Thanks for the feedback. The hair on many dog's feet don't stop growing so they can get dirty and knotted if left. This isn't an issue for short haired dogs but for longer haired it is. This can create problems such stopping dogs being able to grip properly on their pads. Hair left untrimmed can also get tangled and you might not notice if rocks, thorns, foxtails, dried mud, or sand is causing irritation. These things can also lead to infections. Removing longer hair can also prevent slip injuries. In the winter months this can result in snow and ice balls clinging to their feet which can also be painful.

    • @Underdogpets
      @Underdogpets 3 года назад

      Some dogs are scared of the noise and feeling. When this happens to us we keep the clipper turned on but keep the blade away from their body. We gently stroke their body with the clipper whilst it's on to desensitise them. Eventually they don't mind the sound or the feeling. Treats on hand always work well too.
