    Here in the desert southwest of the US, we have been in an extended drought since 1999, Located on the north western edge of Death Valley in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada mountain range is where i live & it has rained a total of 4 measurable times in the past 24 years, On average we receive about 2 inches of rain annually. Transplanted immigrants from different states or climates do not realize that the water they use here is either plumbed in from afar or drawn from of deep wells that have since mostly dried up due to over use, Springs all across the desert have dissapeared, yet the drinking fountain at the Death Valley visitor center still provides water.

    I love Cline but he's a one-trick pony. He has to define the same items in every lecture. "Bronze is an alloy of 90% copper and 10% tin". He tells this in every video. He then tells the usual and unusual places where we find those metals. I want to hear new findings...especially DNA analysis of Hittites and Mediterranean people after the Bronze Age Collapse, etc

    • @confabulating

      Cline is an amazing professional and he is always giving new updates. If you watch the interview you will see that there are updatea between his last book and the new book. I believe we will have more interesting news in the future

    • @westho7314
      @westho7314 3 месяца назад

      As Cline states in the beginning of the lecture that after a decade since the original book this is a revised edition. Meaning adding new material to the body of known information, To omit any previous information in a revision would leave anyone at entry level and interest at a total loss or simply misinformed. Without Tin and Copper there would have been no bronze age. The study of related cultures after the collapse would be a whole new book instead of an added chapter of revision.

    I dont belive the church was so influencel , when it came to everyday life , away from the church and monostary' area ,in the medival period , because ordinarie people cant read , and the mass was read in latin so even if the ordinary people was in church , they did not know what was said , so even if a few " ideas of the clergy leaked out to the public , this " knowledge" was in general distorted or missunderstod or construed , most people heard something of the ideas , beeing presented and that went in one ear and out the other, they simple did not properly understand the " church authorities" ideology. Even if the church law and the law of the state was very strict few people was submitted to punishments , because there was no police force.

    I've read Hugo's book about Princess Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece and enjoyed it very much. I have to admit, however, that I came across the title while researching the truth about Princess Alice after seeing the episode about her on 'The Crown.' I've always had an interest in the Royal Family of the U.K. but being an American, I only knew what was reported about them in the media, which I understood, quite early, could not be trusted. I felt that the first 2 seasons of 'The Crown' were very informative, and enlightening. I greatly admired Her Majesty, the Queen (of happy memory) after viewing it. For instance, I knew next to nothing about the monarch's role in government, the abdication, the Commonwealth, King George VI, Prince Philip's role as consort or the Queen Mother. However, I didn't learn the facts from the series, but by doing my own research after the series presented the questions. So in that respect it was very good. But I must agree with Mr. Vickers that in the 3rd season and those following, the show took on a decidedly anti-monarchist slant, which I thought was extremely unfortunate and unfair. Mrs. Thatcher came off very poorly, and Jillian Anderson should be ashamed of herself. I also agree that Olivia Coleman's portrayal does NOT do the queen justice at all, and I hated her performance. Imelda Staunton, meanwhile, was adequate. The problem with her portrayal is that the author doesn't give her much to work with. All the story lines were about Charles and Dianna. It made me very sad that the series moved so quickly from the Queen's youth to Charles' youth. They missed some great opportunities for good drama during that time. Now, when I recommend the series, I always stress that seasons 1 and 2 are really the only ones worth watching, and that they shouldn't be viewed as fact. Thank you for this interview. I'll check out some of the other titles Hugo Vickers has authored.

      AD 410 is actually the alleged date that Emperor Honorius withdrew the 3 Roman Legions from Britannia though this controversial as the Legion Manpower was mainly Britons plus seeing how weak Rome was at this time may have disbanded themselves to stay at home but as we only know at best 6% of actual Roman History it is a moot point.Even though Honorius sent a letter to the Province of Brittium telling them to look to themselves he meant the Province opposite Sicily as the Western Roman Empire actually collapsed in AD476 after the huge Defeat at Adrianople where the Legions were slaughtered and Rome was near defenceless.

      The Christian archeologist is confounded by two miracles: of being the only cult in history failing to build temples or churches for 300 years, and then building in the same style as the pagan basilica of 300 years before. In the XII century significant events take place, as described in the Gospels: the coming of Jesus Christ, his life and crucifixion, although the existing text of the Gospels was edited and most likely dates to the XIV-XV cc. In the mid XII century, in the year 1152, Jesus Christ is born. In secular Byzantine history he is known as Emperor Andronicus and St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called in Russian history he was portrayed as the Great Prince Andrey Bogolyubsky. To be more specific, Andrey Bogolyubsky is a chronicler counterpart of Andronicus-Christ during his stay in Vladimir-Suzdal Rus’ of the XII century, where he spent most of his life. In fact, the Star of Bethlehem blazed in the middle of the XII century. This gives us an absolute astronomical dating of Christ’s Life. [ЦРС], ch.1. ‘Star of Bethlehem’ - is an explosion of a supernova, which at present is incorrectly dated to the middle of the XI century. The present-day Crab Nebula in the Taurus Constellation is the remnant of this explosion. Enigmatic timber scarcity in Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages as first recognized by dender-pioneer Ernest Hollstein (1918-1988) "No sites exist anywhere with uninterrupted timber specimen from about 1000 CE backwards to Imperial Antiquity(1st-3rd c.). which is why the dendro-chronologies for Ancient Rome and, thereby the entire first millennium are in disarray. Since the very existence of the chronology periods without wood samples was never doubted by the researchers, nobody started to question our textbook chronology. Instead, out of stratigraphic context, scholars searched for wood samples in wells or moors to fill the irritating gaps. In addition, identical reign sequences were used twice in a row to gamer more years. Therefor, "all dendrochronological datings done on West Roman time wood is wrong by some unknown number of years"(") ruclips.net/video/c876lPZ-UZU/видео.html&ab_channel=PlanetAmnesia

I’m able to factor in creative liberties have been inserted for dramatic effect. This series has made me fall in love with the royal family and buy books and autobiographies on certain members. It’s even lead to me flying across the pond to visit historical locations. Not sure why Hugo is bothered by this. Give the public a little more credit. The ones who would find this series entertaining to begin with are probably not the same as those who watch Stranger Things for example. Totally different demographic. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Fascinating. Didn't the Greeks have something called "river valley civilizations" that Plato used in a couple of places? Was that just Plato or does that reference go back even further?

      That's a very good question and Prof. Luke and I am sure Porf. Luke will be happy to answer if you reach him on his academic page.

      @@confabulating Also which civilizations were known then? I'm guessing Indus, Mesopotamia, and Nile, but not China's Yellow River.
