Ibanez Quest Pickup Mod
I removed the stock R1 Ibanez pickups to add a humbucker. Since the bridge pickup cavity is single coil sized I had to choose a small humbucker and I went with the Seymour Duncan JB Jr.
I also basically gutted all the electronics, removing the volume pot and moving the output jack to the front, where the tone pot was. The mini toggle switch now just controls the signal of the guitar, switching it on/off.

This guitar was in a bit of a rough condition when I bought it, the bridge and tremolo was super rusty, the high e nut slot was filed down too low and it had a couple of stripped screws. Removing Locking Mechanism On Neutrik Jack

The locking jack is great for live musicians, so that they can't accidentally pull out the jack if they step on the cable. To remove it you need to press the red pin first and then pull it out. On my unit however it was particularly stiff as you can see, and it always required both hands to remove the jack. Since I only play at home I found this feature to be a bother, so I removed it.

Ciao Nicosta, scusa ma se io esco con una traccia audio di VOCE dalla DAW/scheda audio (con uscite separate) e entro nell'AUDIO IN del Minilogue, perché ciò che sento non 'assomiglia' minimamente alla Voce, ma invece risulta un fischio (modulabile. Lo stesso che se entro con un semplice jack - MONO deve essere, giusto? - senza collegamento)? Ho provato poi a entrare da un Volca Beats e, premendo un tasto del Minilogue, ho effettivamente il suono della drum machine (modulabile). Grazie
Se con volca beats ti funziona vuol dire che il problema è o nel routing della daw o nell'uscita fisica della scheda audio. Testa tutto singolarmente e così trovi il problema. Si l'input dev'essere mono come dici te.

how much slack do you give the strings before you start tuning up?
As you can see at 2:20 you can have a little bit of slack in them, the important part is making sure the tuner on the bridge is all the way forward, so you have room to tune to the right pitch. Other than that I just mark the string and cut it.

Are those roundwound or flatwound strings? Have you tried using flatwounds? Thanks
@@horriefic They are daddario EXL170 roundwound, I've never tried flatwound on bass
Do you see any potential weaknesses in the bridge? Other headless designs I've had ended up breaking, so I'm apprehensive to try another one.

Sad to report it didn't work for me. After "disarming" the locking mechanism, I got an intermittent connection. I ended up replacing the whole thing with a Switchcraft E11PKG plate, which bolted in perfectly. I replaced the 1/4" female connector it came with, with a standard 1/4" barrel jack, which is a more robust jack. It requires a larger hole in the plate, so you'll need a step drill bit to enlarge the hole. Soldered everything up, and it works like a champ.
@@elisabethkolling6697 Sorry to hear that, could it be that you didn't fully secured the ground prong on the jack with the screw? Maybe the ground got loose and was touching the signal wire occasionaly. That's the only thing I can think of that could cause an intermitting signal
Similar issue here. Without the lock the plug waggled around in the jack and I had noise (seemingy unrelated to the wiggle). I put the Neutrik lock back the way it was and still it's acting like the main volume pot is dirty. Weird. UPDATE: Turns out mine had a bad volume pot. [It's a dual, the passive one was fine.] If you ever need parts look up IBANEZRULES. Very responsive.

What’s the intro chord you played that didn’t have tabs? Sorry I tried to figure out what they were but I can’t seem to get the same sound
The first notes without tabs from 0:04 to 0:08 are octaves, played on the A and G string. The frets I played on the A string are 7 - 8 - 10 -11 and on the G string I played the same note an octave higher, so 9 - 10 - 12 - 13

Hi Nicola, I have old me-70. Wondering how you got such clear compression like dg-20 pickups without all the extra hum and noise from regular pickups. I have passive pickups too. Getting a lot of noise with compression.
Hi Stevey, when we recorded this we didn't have any experience recording guitar. So first of all the tone is not that great since it is just the DI signal coming from the me70. After recording I remember we automated the volume on the recording software to give it the longest sustain possible where necessary. So it's not really a achievable sustain while playing live.
Wow, you really got something great. I use Logic Pro and UAD plugins. Also Bias fx2 for amp simulations. Hope to get such a clean tone like this 😅

A guitar solo doesn't need to be fancy to go unbelievably hard. This is one of my all time favorite solos; bluesy, full of feeling, and perfectly complements the song.
