The Ecological Approach to Mixed Martial Arts Striking with Scott Sievewright
In this episode of The Sonny Brown Breakdown, guest Scott Sievewright discusses his ecological approach to coaching martial arts. He emphasises the importance of live, unscripted sparring from day one to build skills, arguing that traditional techniques taught in isolation don't effectively transfer to real-life fighting.
Sievewright believes his method produces better, more skilled fighters by developing movement repertoire and qualities through live, games-based play sparring. He highlights sparring's role in correcting errors and the importance of adaptability and self-organisation in training.
The conversation covers footwork, external focus, situational sparring, distance and space in ...

Rolls Gracie RIP was also one of a kind within the Gracie family.
Is there a way to watch the whole film?
This is Wrestling how it’s supposed to be done
He's still got his f****ing hat on!
What head gear is he using?
Interesting that Rickert doesn't seem to be counting to 10 when Jeffries went down.
600 push ups a day?
Has this man been drinking too much Jameson's lol 🤣🤣
Proud To Have Lineage To Founder and Grand Master Kano 🇯🇵 🗻 🥋 and Founder and Grand Master Oyama / Choi 🇯🇵 / 🇰🇷 🥋 👊🏽 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🤞🏽
Rickson Grace para todo el mundo
Jiu-Jitsu is an oriental thing. The white people's imitation of it is excellent. If you meet a white person on the street, almost no white person can match an oriental one.유술은 동양의 것이다.백인의 모방은 훌륭했다.길에서 만나면 백인은 거의 다 동양의 상대가 되지 못한다.
who did he say was the first fighter to use the spinning elbow in the 1970's ? Around 9:29 mark?
31:11 is where I think the constraints-led approach is taken too far. Greg talks about not starting with knowledge, that we figure it out by doing it first, and then we see it and talk about it, try to understand it. Sure, a baby is born not knowing how to move. But we are not babies. Why wouldn't we talk about what others have done first? This is too much Kool-Aid for my taste.
Ah, not much later, he addresses it a bit. He doesn't force it to emerge from nothing but shows just enough. I think many miss that about this. I did.
2:56 that's a crazy, racist ending if you watch it. the ref doesn't even start the count, but steps back relaxed with his hands on his hips. i don't think anyone was prepared to be stunned by the drubbing jeff got. johnson moves in to finish him off then the ref only then, rushes in to halt johnson's attack and let jeff get up. then jeff's whole corner gets on the apron. and get him back on his feet! lol. then they get in the ring to intimidate johnson. and the ref, who is the promoter(!), is so stupefied, he still doesn't waive off the fight even then! the fight sort of never ends technically. it's actually james corbett who gets johnson to back off. what a sorry afair from the start to finish by everyone involved, except johnson, who proved himself the greatest.
Can someone link to the Party Bear vid on Gordon Ryan? Cheers 🤙
Great video! And does anyone know the name of the song in it?
Rickson Gracie talks about this fight and much more on JRE #524. Highly recommended. ruclips.net/video/QH5dBdpIiJw/видео.htmlsi=vbOJbeAPPM_r8P2Y
wtf put this 80's DeLorean on here, this reel sucks, Punisher TKO
He won but no contract cause he's boring af. Could've used a highlight like this one.
Music??
Look at that racist
His explanations are quite clever and of genious kind👍🏼❗️very good application👍🏼❗️I love it❤️❗️
Can you post the full colourised version please?
1:05
He would lose these days
it's all fun and games til you get kicked in the nuts. 11:47
Knee?
11:48 was when it got real after that kick to the groin (accidental or not)
0:04 i dont but the moment isaw the face it reminds me of yuichiro hanma
This is truly a Great Fight between two Masters @ work in all phases of the Fight Game. You can even say this this is a low key Legendary Fight. 👊👊✊✊👏👏👌👌
A lot of mma guys got a lot of moves and techniques in practice but you don't see them using it in a real fight they usually just wrestle and hug each other.
Kimura knew very well that one very important component of BJJ is the leg locking techniques. He muted Gracie to use that tool throughout the rounds, while making all parts of his body do the job as he would please.
The colorization of this July 4, 1910 Championship Fight between Champ Jack Johnson and former Champ, Jim Jeffries, made a world of difference to the viewers of old fighters. There was exposed detail in the color video of Johnson versus Jeffries, not easily seen on the original black & white film. The manner of dress amongst the fans gave the current day viewer a peak into yesteryear times. It was a very different world then, very different. Big Jeff dropped over a 100-pounds getting in shape for the fight. But Jeff could not turn back "Father Time". Jeffries had retired 5-years earlier undefeated as the Heavyweight Champ. The early rounds of this "classic" Fight of the Century" see-sawed back and forth between the combatants, but as the fight wore on, Jeffries started slowing down and getting hit more and more. His gas tank was starting to run low beginning in the 9th round. The former Heavyweight Champ still had heart and would not quit. From the 11th round to the end in the 13th round, Jack pounded away at Big Jeff, with a noticeable lack of a return by Jeffries. The 13th round saw the end of a boxing legend Jim Jeffries. Knockdown twice and battered from pillow to post, Jeff's corner conceded. I noticed that in the mass of fans present it would seem that all men wore suits, and a straw hat or cloth hat. Most of them broke as a haint, but very particular about how they looked in public. Lack of self pride was frowned upon by the people of the time. This fight would establish Jack Johnson as one of the All-Time great Heavyweight Champions of any period. Even though Big Jeff was past his prime, and had not fought in a 5-year period. I believe in his prime Jeffries would have given a better showing, but in the end, Johnson would have prevailed (maybe). Many thanks for this special fight film of past times. Colorizing it was great.
Ref was at fault!
I actually just practiced this exact sequence in class a week ago. Nice 😂
Fascinating interview. Thank you very much.
Great upload
Punisher coming my boy
He won but no contract again
Jits guys with craddles got it
U wot m8
What a matchup it would’ve been had they both been in their primes. Both men were physical specimens. It’s laughable and sad that Jeffries even took this fight.
Terrible striking
五味は今も闘っている。健在だよ。
Where's Jesse Enkamp now??? Why is silent???? He has nothing to say now.
Fascinating conversation thank you so much for having this.
5:12 "Hits the man a couple of time to soft(en) him up." Sounds almost like a recipe, right before adding salt and pepper.
When jiujitsu meant something other than cauliflower ears and belt colors😕
Brazilians say that they had valetu do contest back in 60s
Where are bruce lee fans saying that he was a best fighter or martial artist at this time...) Before 1973?...))))))
Why would you ever wait on a grappler. I would never agree to a ring enclosure either. Without unlimited space it’s going to end in a clinch. It is inevitable. With limited rules it will always favor a grappler. And to be honest they actually went lightly on these karate guys. They could have done some real damage. Just another classical mess exposed. They had every opportunity to strike but they were apprehensive. That’s why I laugh at all that blocking nonsense. They didn’t even know how to avoid a basic takedown. No knees, elbows, head butts ect. Just a fancy stance and tapping out. Better off taking some boxing 🥊. At least it’s practical and you will build strength and endurance.
its actually a good thing that karate has a reputation now of being shit, i prefer a smaller, more intimate club lol
