I like it with or without the score. On a separate but somewhat related note, I’d love to see a back story movie on Van Helsing. Yeah the Hugh Jackman movie was entertaining but I’d like to see a movie following Van Helsing from childhood to his older years. I’d like to see how he developed into such a formidable opponent of evil.

You can say anything you like about this film but you can't deny there aren't many scenes in history where two actors have committed to the bit harder than these legends.

There's more authority and dread in how Lugosi delivers "...Come here." than most modern actors can muster in a blockbuster film. The score really helps to sell the horror of this moment, and the compulsion that Van Helsing is resisting.

It so crazy how they were worried about his accent, when now it's imbedded in our minds permanently, that voice and accent is dracula

The force is strong with Van Helsing as he could resist the vampyre mind trick.

As much as I like the music-less Original for how eerie and deathly quiet it is, I must admit that the nervous energy Glass‘ Score adds to the mix is very effective at creating its own kind of tension. I like both versions, for different reasons.

This classic scene from "Dracula"(1931) is much better with no music score! There are some scenes in movies best left unscored! A perfect example is John Barry's right decision to leave the fight scene between Red Grant and James Bond in the train compartment on the Orient Express in "From Russia With Love"(1963) unscored because the drama and brutality of the fight was so visually intense that Barry very astutely realized that music would only detract from the intensity of that famous movie scene!

Im gonna try the Dracula approach on a woman in a bar. If I dont soon report back, I will probably need some bail money.

I will fully admit that that scene, those two actors, did not NEED music to make this scene perfect, BUT, every. single. time. I watch this scene it gives me chills when the strings are at their peak and the tension in the scene is at its height and it is *gasp* *no words*. Brilliant!

The main issue people find with the score is that it’s mixed terribly, too loud when it shouldn’t be, interrupting in some scenes. I think if it were to be addressed in today’s time we have the editing software to handle the balance better. I think in this scene the score fits perfectly, but it varies through the film.

The original is better, I like the score but it distracts from the power of their performances. We don’t need music to be pulled in, all we need is Lugosi’s hand and voice.

I have a roku tv and this Dracula with this music on it. I can’t watch anything else but this version. It’s the most amazing comparison

In relation to finding a (30’s) classic with music added in, watch Frankenstein (1931) (full movie) on Vimeo. It’s called Frankenstein Coferized by Create Your Own Universe. I say that this guy gave the movie the perfect background music. After watching it, I can’t watch Frankenstein without music again. Again I highly recommend Frankenstein Coferized on Vimeo.

Im sorry, I love the oroginal, but the Philip Glass score just completes this film.

The score really enhances some scenes (for example this one) but it's quite inappropriate in others (Dracula's introduction)

"Now that you have learned what you have learned, it would be well for you to return to your *OWN* country." Wow, Dracula is Hungarian and he's a nationalist.....he should get into politics, he sounds like Viktor Orban.

Weak score

The second "come here" is probably my favorite line in any film.

One of the best scenes in a wonderful film, and Glass's score really enhances it. Who even knew that was possible?
