I always love watching former military turn into business leaders because they carry forth the military ethos of training your juniors and giving them the opportunity to prove themselves. Too many corporate leaders just try to "buy" their talent as cheaply as possible rather than investing inwards and growing it.

I'd like to be more positive about ISC2 but having worked for ISC2 for 4 years and previously been a CISO in the federal government and an information security professional for 10 years before becoming a CISO, I was highly disappointed with the direction of the organization. I did meet and get to know some of the founders who, I thought, provided meaningful suggestions on moving forward, however, those suggestions were ignored. I left since apparently it seemed to be more important to sell certifications than to actually represent the field which was the chief reason that I took the position of Director of Government Affairs around 2010. Several board members seemed to be more interested in dining at the best restaurants around the world than actually looking into the future to develop the next meaningful certification. I was also concerned that, at the time, over 95% of those employed by ISC2 were in either sales or marketing. They certainly could have used some more knowledgeable INFOSEC people on staff. Certainly, I have insider knowledge but don't believe it would be appropriate to discuss what I know in an open forum. I was so distraught by some of what I witnessed that when I left ISC2, I let my certs lapse. I will add that the way ISC2 is set up, it is supposed to be more of a member organization but the way things are run, in my opinion, it is not. Perhaps things have changed since I left but it doesn't sound like it.

Thank you David and Ira. Clar Rosso rapidly increased the size of ISC2's membership during her tenure, but she also devalued the quality of their top certification for their members. Hopefully the next person they institute as the CEO will be an actual cybersecurity professional and will help regain the credibility ISC2 lost under Rosso's leadership.
