      In order to get it to plain I need more HP. That is why I was thinking of gas and a 25 hp motor. If I stay electric I will be able to get a bit more speed but not to a good plane. My 20HP Elco motor got me to 17 km/hr and I was almost plaining. Going to a 20' hull will help.

    Beautiful trip, thank you for sharing. Just a few questions.. Were insects ever an issue on this trip? As far as I could tell you, never approached a full charge on this trip? Would it made much of a difference in travel time if you had more solar? it looked like you had some significant wave action on this trip, are you considering any changes to the boat, or trip planning because of it?

    Hi @philboyer2036, i love your boats and your videos. I am nearly done with the hull of a CLC Boats pilot gig modified for solar electric drive. I realized it will look very similar to your earlier iteration design before Soul Cat. Are there any key lessons learned from that design that I may not have anticipated in mine? The biggest difference is i have created a keel and custom azimothing pod torqueedo drive which is not foldable. Cheers and thank you for sharing your experiences.

    • @philboyer2036
      @philboyer2036 Год назад

      My early mono hull with the solar panels on top. Even though the panels were the lighter flexible the total weight caused stability issues. That's why I went to a catamaran design. The large Torqeedo props are weed magnets I am always looking for better ways to first divert the weeds and then cut them as they tangle around the prop. If you find on your pod drive that weeds get tangled between the prop and housing (small gap) You can make a guard out of fibre glass like a collar.

    • @anonmyuos4284
      @anonmyuos4284 Год назад

      The stability has been my greatest concern so I'm concerned to hear you express it as that bad. I added 40kg of lead ballast to the keel plus the 23kg pod out the bottom to try and counteract the 12 kg of flexible panels on the roof (plus the as yet unbuilt roof itself). I guess an outrigger might be in my future. Do you lift your prop out of the water to clear weeds by hand? I'll need to come up with a boat hook/pruning knife rig I suppose. I hope the keel with grounding shoe will divert the worst of the weeds under the prop entirely. Have you tried any of the line cutter devices for the shaft? I haven't looked into them at this small scale.

    55KM on solar electric in one day is impressive. I was planning on making a small solar cat similar to yours, but seeing your boat will result in a lot of modifications to my plan. A lot of cool features in your boat.

  • @ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958

    Can't wait to see the removable camping walls. I bet they stiffen up the top real good.

  • @ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958

    The collapsable head is amazing. I have a six to seven foot bridge by my house, but want to make a similar boat. I'd also like the underside of my catamaran to be at least two feet above the waterline. This means my canopy and possibly other parts of the boat will need to fold down. I've never seen anything like your folding room, so I'm keeping it in mind for solving my low bridge issue. Its brilliant!
