The Mining site of Vallone is the oldest iron mine on the island of Elba. Mining in Vallone was started by the Etruscans and the Romans and it continued until the second world war, Open pit mining continued until 1981 when the last active mines of Elba Island were closed. 12-06-2022

Each piece had to be engineered drawn and made from prints .Machined and fitted and it all works . Amazing!

Blindfolded, one might think it were an ALCo 251, possibly an inline-6, at idle.
Almost no sound of combustion at all. Just valve train clatter.

I dont ever want to see another bloody MAK ever again ,what a bloody pain in the arse they were nothing but trouble -overheating-turbos filters chocking up v/v stems breaking exh gas leaks main pumps inefficient ,the list could go on but---I wont bother

@@dirkhartman9572 Hi . perhaps thats because the Greeks never got there hands on it, the bugger I was working on was a complete sod of a engine- we even had the German engineer out to it & he through his hands up in despair at it.
@@MrJpsspecial yeah Mediterean ship maintenance is known to be terrible but also the newer MAK engines have more Troubles then this 60s engine

Had an MWM 950hp with turbo on the Tafelberg and the longer the day the better the sound especially by night under the bridges...free concert!!
