thanks for showing so nicely.
Just received Anne Dixon’s book. Thanks to you’re video I now understand Baltic style weaving. Looking forward to exploring so many patterns. Thank so much.
You are most welcome, glad you found it useful. Happy weaving.
Thank you from Australia for making this video! I also have this book, and think it’s a wonderful source of patterns for learning. I did, however, find it difficult to understand the patterns at first >.< I haven’t tried the Monk’s Belt yet - your video makes it look very achievable, so it’s going to be the next I warp up on my loom! I am just finishing the patterns on page 66 (Baltic Pick-up), and used a Cotton thread for the background, and my pattern thread is Velour! It is a little sticky, and you don’t get many chances to go back and fix problems as you ruin the Velour, but it looks and feels really good wth the right pattern :-) Your weaving is lovely! I also loved the colors you picked for this one (I haven’t looked at the book to see if they are the ones they suggested, but either way, it looks lovely!). If you happen to read this, I am curious what you do with your Inkle bands?
Thank you for the kind comments. The Monk’s Belt I found really challenging to get the hang of and I think I would have to rewatch my own video before starting another project. Hmm, Velour, that must be lovely. I think we all wonder what exactly to do with these bands. I have made them for camera straps, belts, trim on worn out coat cuffs, trim on jean hems, purse straps, book marks and key chains. I did see a piece that someone did where they stitched together a bunch of bands and made a purse/bag. Happy weaving from the North.
Great instruction.
Thank you, glad you found it useful.
Brilliant explanation thank you so much
Thank you very much. I haven’t woven Monk’s Belt for awhile, I probably need to rewatch my own video.
Inkle loom with no card needed?does it work? Very beginner boght loom yesterday
Inker weaving is its own thing. You can do card weaving on an inkle loom too. Inkle weaving is also for making bands of weaving. It uses a standard single heddle system and for patterns you do pickups like she demonstrated. Card weaving is different in that the cards make your shed for the shuttle to pass thru and it does this by twisting the warps around each other. It makes for a denser and stronger weave. You can start with either weaving technique. Once you’ve got the loom they are very compatable hobbies.
@Nemodog i got both sides blocked card weaving loom. So i was thinking to open one side as yours.. Card weaving and inkle are quite different. Thank you for reply.
Can you make a video on how you cut the cards?
It is not too difficult to do if you have some stiff cardboard, plastic file folder, etc. Cut out how ever many squares you need, all the same size. Next round the corners so there is no pointy bits to catch on the threads. Take one card and using a hole punch put holes in each corner of one square. A hole punch works great as the hole will be smooth. Use that card as a template to cut the holes in all the other squares. That way your holes will be pretty much in the same place. Then all you need is a marker to place your A B C D in the corners. Hope this helps.
Lovely, Greg. I was lost in the crowd and then too tired, so this it my first chance to actually see/hear more of it. one tiny thing. You have a lable on most of it, and it's missing one X. I don't know if it's tricky to add it, but it you can...should be SSXX1. Thank you SO MUCH for sending this.
Thank you. I think i understood 😅. Now I'll give it a try 😉
Hope it worked and you have been weaving away.
thank you ! very very useful vidéo for me i have the book and was not sure if i understood well .. thankx a lot !
Glad you found it useful. I found Monk’s belt a bit tricky which was why i decided to do the video.
Are we related? I always go for the more complicated patterns when I'm still learning, too. In today's episode, I'm going "easy" on myself - travelling pinwheels on the RHL. lol
I live by the saying “you learn by your mistakes”. I figure at some point I am going to be some smart! I am forever trying new and increasingly more challenging weaving things. Ohh, travelling pinwheels, lovely. I hope it turned out as lovely as you hoped.
@@suelocke3494 they did not, but i learned, and THAT is the joy. i need to double the warp in the heddle and the weft (don't have a tiny one), and then i bet it will work. TBD.
Very helpful information and video. I hope you continue with Inkle weaving videos. I like your method of explaining. :)
So glad you found it useful. I enjoy making the videos, I try and explain things in a way that makes sense to me.
Thank you! I'm currently focusing on Monk's Belt and this is a wonderful demonstration and explanation of this draft. Yey. I'll give it a go today 😊
Sorry for the extremely long wait for a reply. I am so glad you found it useful. Hope your Monk’s Belt turned out as you hoped. Happy weaving.
This is the best video I have watched regarding this type of weaving on the inkle loom. Thank you so much!
Wow, it has taken me a long time to respond. Very glad you found it useful.
Excellent tutorial. THANK YOU!
So glad you found it useful.
Y el largo total?
I dont understand why it is necessary to reverse the position of the forward/reverse for the second turning. You are still turning the forward cards forward and backward cards backward whether they are placed above or below their beginning position.
Each row has two turns and both will turn in the same manner. Your group of cards will be divided as indicated in the pattern/diagram for that row. You will have some that will turn forward and some that turn backwards. You will turn the cards, weave, beat and then again turn(in the same direction), weave and beat again. Now you can go to the next row and reorder the cards again for the next groups to turn. Hope that helps.
That was really helpful, you mean only the shaded blocks on the design paper are those that should follow the letter F or B and that also mean as a result the unshaded blocks should turn the opposite direction, right?
Yes that is correct. I found it helpful when sorting the cards to always push the forward turning pack up the warp toward the top of the loom and push the backward turning group toward me. Then I would quickly double check my chart and then turn them.
This is the best explanation of how the draft/chart relates to the weaving/pick-up. Thank you, thank you!
So glad this helped you.
Hermoso trabajo!! ¿Cuáles son las medidas en centímetros del tejido terminado?
About an inch or 2.54cm.
it's indeed so helpful. Thanks a lot for the straightforward explanation
Glad this helped you. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video! I’ve been wanting to try this technique for a long time but was having a hard time following Anne Dixon’s instructions so it’s fantastic! I’ll dress my loom thinking of you
Glad you found it useful.
Thank you. You answered all my questions. Brill.
So glad you found it useful. Happy Weaving.
Nice tutorial
You are doing great. Following someone else's ideas and patterns can be slow going and often very frustrating, if you have a deviation so what, (never never say "mistake"), you have just added a bit of you into your work. Nothing is set in stone, these books and patterns are not "gods". I have been a weaver 30 plus years, you are doing great.
Hello from Japan! What a strange looking loom.
It is called an Inkle Loom. It creates bands similar to what a kumihimo loom would.
Grow this league.

Typos corrected. Thanks!
