Although he's listed at 6'0" (not 6'6") he makes this really good one time shot to the top corner look routine, because he is not trying to catch it. He is relying on lateal movement, angle, and upright body position. Grease job by a young goalie!

    For tucked in you have to wear suspenders. The inner belts, no matter if ccm, vaughn, warrior..., is always fighting against the chestie movement

    Not a fan of the taps. Its easy to know where you are in the net if soend time there. I did the taps as a kid before the butterfly was a thing. Now that things have changed i feel youre wasting time reaching over even if it is just a foot. Take that time to position yourself. If they are coming in from the boards (at my rink) and they get to the blue line at the board, your right foot should be at or just over the point of your crease. If they are at the left blue line at the boards your left foot is at or just over the point of the crease. If they are coming in center ice, you should know where center of the crease is because youve been standing there. Take that extra time to get out in front and start making your adjustments. No sense coming out a second or 2 late because you're tapping a post you already know is there.

    I am very thankful for your video as my son has the exact same junior CCM glove you showed and had the exact same problem (bought it second hand and was like that). I thought his hand was simply not big or strong enough to close the glove, but realized there was an issue when he took MY senior glove and was able to close and open it with no problem. I put his glove in the oven @150F for 10 min, put a stick in it like you did and put it in the freezer for the night. It looks way better this morning and will be able to tell if the problem is resolved tonight after his game. Thanks again!

    Great video. I'm going to be sharing these break-in videos with my goalies. So, so many sessions of parents saying "Yeah. I'd like you to work on their glove, they're having trouble catching pucks." Then I get on the ice and the glove is essentially a mail slot for pucks, zero break-in.

    First!! Thanks!!! Bauer's also seem to get mushy palms. Ccm's seem to have issues breaking in, and restiffen, or something. Thanks so, so much. I've bought and sold 10? Cause my son is picky. I wonder how much time/energy I could have saved. His 2x int I did fix, it was worlds better. But, uh, it took me, forever. I can't believe a softball does anything in some gloves, as the pockets are huge. I'll try it again. I have also used a recorder shaft (at least good for something! Haha) as a mini stick. Also, parents, buying used stuff is a time saver, just sanitize or ozone it, gets rid of some of smells. No break-in. Saves $.

    To me it looks like this is most applicable inside 5 feet or so? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ for me seeing my glove in my vision helps me track the puck better and get my body and eyes behind it. Sure once it gets in tight, I think you have to start looking at blocking net and low coverage. Great analysis on the small box a player has in tight. I gotta get back in there for adult session during the day. Great video Jeff (sounded like Jeff)

  • @mattwodziak1750
    @mattwodziak1750 10 месяцев назад

    Totally agree with everything here but I think an important thing to understand is that holding your glove in a ready position out in front of you is meant to be ideal for making a reactive save. What you’ve highlighted in this video is the goalie taking a blocking stance where he won’t have any opportunity to react to the shot. He’s simply trying to be in the way before the shot is released. Extending the glove out in front of you for a blocking stance will give you the advantage of covering more net vertically. Holding it back in the stance like you see in the video he is maximizing his coverage vertically and laterally. It’s a good observation but I think it could use some explanation.

    i'm glad you are training them out of too much knee sliding. the NHL has a massive issue with this now. I feel like since everyone is now going after tall goaltenders they feel they can still fill the net on their knees... but i'm seeing goal after goal that could be avoided if they'd stay on their feet a bit more. Brodeur was a good size but he stood as much as he could. very few people were as fast down and up like Patrick Roy was, but he was a great example of 'just enough' butterfly. when the puck was being moved around behind his net, he stayed on his feet, and whipped back and forth post to post with his stick perfectly placed to stop a wrap. and if it got tossed out in front of the net, he was standing and able to challenge forward to cut the angle. This needs to make a comeback.

      Came here because I've always played D. We needed a goalie a few months ago in beer league and took the net. Didn't set the world on fire, but I'm accruing equipment and want to get into it. I stacked the pads successfully in the game, but I'd prefer to not do that again.
