I transferred my license from a different state to Mi, and they required me to take a test . Now, I need help if anyone know where can I fine a book to study.
@@ilikepho. We use Milady Nail Technology with Foundations. You can order both books on Amazon.com together. Some cosmetology schools are willing to prep individuals for testing. You can also look up test prep material online PSI Testing website. Make sure to look for Michigan's exam.
@joellezebarah9597 thank you. I have been looking, but I am stuck 😪
South field location and I failed. Going to take it virtual tomorrow morning. I know why I failed. Several reasons. But try try again
You can do it’s virtual so you don’t have to be in person
This is nice but why not get closer to the table when you are doing the mock exam? We can’t see 😅
@TheMoGiselle This video was created mainly for my students and other instructors who already have an idea of how to take the exam. There are no exact steps in the procedures. Instructors, apprenticeships, and schools can choose to train differently. The most important thing I wanted to convey in this video was the importance of sanitation, disinfection, and safety in the workplace. I really should make a new video because you weren't the only person who would like to see a table view. If you send me your email, I can send you my procedures and steps handouts 😉
@@joellezebarah9597 can I get the steps and procedure also plz
Joelle you are de best for this thank you my dear ❤❤❤❤
Just wanted to circle back to say THANK YOU! I passed this week in GR!
If you use barbicide wipes instead of spray, how do you handle implements that I see you putting in the barbicide jar (tip cutter & nail brush). Can those be used just once then placed in the multi-use trash bag?
Absolutely
@@joellezebarah9597 so I brought wipes instead of spray/paper towel roll. Ran into a glitch because the testing room has NO paper towels! So after washing my hands each time, I had no way to dry them! SMH!
I failed at south field by 1 point!! Because my sealed MONOMER had solidified 🥴😩😭 that was the point I failed by not I have to drive two hours to GR tomorrow 🥴😩 but I know I got it this time!!! Thanks to this wonderful video!!
did you put acrylic on the form finger or tip finger?
All five fingers have a thin coat of acrylic. The tip and Sculptured nail fingers are just short (fingertip length). We glue the tip to the thin acrylic nail. We just add more acrylic to the Sculptured nail.
Does it have to be barbacide? Or can we use a hospital grade epa disinfectant?
Any hospital grade Disinfectant is ok. Barbicide is just the most common in our industry.
I’m a lefty am I allowed to set it up for a lefty?
You may set up however you want. Just make sure to follow laws and rules for sanitation and disinfection.
Thank you for this video! It helped me pass my test today! ❤️❤️
Hey just took mine, how long was it before you got results?
The first time i took it i failed and found out immediately. The second time i passed and it took about 2hrs to get my results!! Good luck! 🤍
Hey can we get an overhead view of this exam please to see what’s being pulled out 😊❤❤❤
I'm working on an updated version. I will definitely get an overview on the next one.
will you have this completed soon? Taking my test in 1 month. @@joellezebarah9597
Can we use a rubber mannequin hand?!
Yes. It is supposed to be pre prepped with a foundation. We use acrylic to mimic short natural looking nails. Mechanical hands with interchangeable fingertips are not allowed.
Thank you for this video, it was super helpful! Can you tell me which books your school uses?
Milady Nail Technology & Fundamentals 8th Edition
Hi! What kind of brand do you recommend to use on the test for odorless monomer liquid and polymer powder product?
Any inexpensive product will be fine. Just make sure to practice with it so you have good control of your product. We use "All Season's," an off brand from Marianna.
Hello! Thank you so much for the video. I passed today. Thanks 😊

How long did I take to get your results?
@@CourtneTatzVideos I received mines the same day.
Today is my birthday and my exam! 🤞🏾 I’ll be back to let you guys know if i passed or not i’m at the southfield location
I PASSED!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much for uploading this video! I will be taking my test in march! How hard is the Theory test? Im super intimidated by it as im not the best test taker and am struggling with the diseases & disorders.
You can take a practice test for around $25 on PSI Testing website. Look for Michigan Theory Practice Test. It will give you an idea of how the questions are asked on the exam. Good luck!
Hi! I was able to find the Michigan guide when I printed out a few months ago. So I should be good but still am attempting to get ahold of PSI to let them know the guide is not accessible on their website. Also wanted to reach out and ask can we just label the remover, cuticle remover, lotion, etc with our own labels? I see yours are in small bottles and wanted something similar.
All products must have the original labels. I still haven't been able to get the test guide. The one you have should be fine. Good luck.
Thank you a ton! This is very much appreciated.
I go next week to take it again, do we HAVE to wear gloves?
No
I did that and the footer says 2009? I know in the past I have seen one with a different date. The link on the PSI website does not work. I emailed them and they didn’t help. I appreciate your help.
I'm looking into it. I was not able to find it either. I will let you know when I do.
Hi! I am trying to find the guide. I’ve been on the PSI website and the link does not work. Are you able to help out?
If you google "psi michigan manicure test guide," it should pop up. The header says "cosmetolog," but it should say manicure underneath. Good luck
Hi! I’m about to take my practical! My only question is, is it okay to not change your towels between each service and just the paper towel? Thanks!!
Yes. We only use the same two towels for the entire exam.
I passed and followed this pretty much to a t but changed a few things! Thankyou so Much! And to all the girls in the comments who helped ! @ Southfield Location
I am so nervous. I am taking in two weeks at Southfield. Any pointers?
Hey what change cause I am taking my test this week are we still doing red nail polish ?
Do you leave your mutli use , single use bags on the side? Do you tape them?
We use gift bags or paper bags, labeled and lined with a plastic bag.
@@joellezebarah9597 do you tape them to the table or put them on the side/under your desk?
Hello! Next week i have my practical manicurist.Thank you for this vidio is really helpfull for me.I want to know -Whats the Rsts sheets?Where do you find?
Everything chemical that you use during testing, has a Safety Data Sheet (SDS), usually online or you may have to call the manufacturer to have it emailed. My students have never been asked for them, and PSI representative said it wasn't necessary.
@@joellezebarah9597 Thank you! And one more thing please,I want to know the websid for barbicide?
@orjenasulo search "Barbicide." Go to www.barbicide.com and search "Spray." There will be a label to print and SDS sheets.
@@joellezebarah9597 Thank you very much!
Just came across this video... wow is this helpful! I won't be taking my test until next spring. Has anything changed since this video was posted? Also, I'm confused about Topic 2 Manicure: Do we have to do 3 fingers for the Exam? Polish removal? Polish application? From the comments below, it doesn't seem to be the case.
State Board doesn't indicate how many fingers to manicure, and there are no incorrect steps. This is just how I train my students. It doesn't necessarily have to be done this way.
I passed my practical! Thank you! I went to GR after failing at Southfield with the same techniques. Anyone with questions, ask away, I'll answer as best as i can. FYI, I did change a couple of things different from the video.
How did you label/bring the barbicide? I am worried that if I put it in something that it’s not labeled it’ll be wrong. What did you use for barbicide?
@@SarahCounterman I didn't bring a barbicide jar nor did i bring barbicide. Instead, I brought a disinfect wipes tub from the dollar store. I also used very few reusable implements. As for labeling, I labeled EVERYTHING in a ziplock bag.
What do you mean by disinfectant wipes tub? 🤔
@@SarahCounterman like the lysol wipes container
Do you know why you didn’t pass in Southfield? I’m scheduled to test there in two weeks and was going to do the same as this video.
I passed my practical!!! Thank you so much for posting this video it really helped me out!!! Big big thanks again!!
Which location?
Im supposed to text at Southfield this Monday. Im very nervous reading these comments on how they are failing people. Any updates on this ? Im very nervous now.
I can't say if it has gotten any better. I haven't had a student test there in a while. The main thing to remember is that you must abide by all state laws and rules to maintain safety and sanitation.
I went and took my practical in Grand Rapids on July 31st and passed. I took my theory in Southfield first though on July 6th, which I also passed. Southfield has been failing people so I just drove the 2 hours and went to Grand Rapids. I’m from Detroit though. I’m open to answering any question anybody may have.
How was your theory exam? Was it super hard ?
@@lilyalcorn5087i heard the theory test was really easy, i had a friend who didn’t study a bit and had been graduated for months and passed! (NOT recommending that you don’t study, studying is very important and only allows you to remember more!!)
Ok I thought I did things right but the two women keep failing me
😩 that was the only testing site available for me gr was booked 😩🤦🏻♀️ I hope I pass

PSI Michigan Manicurist Test Takers Guide
Taking my practical this Wednesday at Southfield location. Is the barbicide in cup required? And did anyone pass without having to use their soaking bowl during manicure?
We don't use a finger bath, but we do use a barbicide jar.
Can we put together and seal our own kit, or do we need to purchase sealed kits? Thanks!!
The only item that has to be sealed is your odorless monomer liquid. You can absolutely put your own kit together.
Can u pls do a video of setting up the stuff for the bag like topic area 1
I'm sorry I missed your message! I hope you did ok if you already tested.
do we not have tape the multi use and single use containers to the table?
I'm very sorry that I missed your question!
Just want to tell everyone on here Thank you for all your help. I just followed this video and I passed. Wooohooooo. Thanks again
Thankyou queen
We passed in Grand Rapids… followed this video exactly!! Thanks for posting!
does the barbercide jar need to have a lid?
No, a lid isn't necessary. Just make sure to remove all tools from the jar during clean-up at the end of each service.
@@joellezebarah9597Do you NEED a jar?
@katez5742 no, we just train our students to use them.
It’s been years since I took mine! I was so nervous to take it!
Does anyone have a kit list? It was hard for me to see exactly what was in the bags.
I'm sorry I don't have a list of supplies. The State doesn't recognize one specific way to do a service, so the supplies are not as important as sanitation and disinfection.
Hello all. I was wondering what oderless acrylics everyone used. I live so far away from any nail supplies and have to order online. Having a difficult time finding what seems best to use. Thank you in advance.
We order an off brand from Marianna, but Tammy Taylor has a nice odorless system if you would like to order from her website.
Hey, since they don’t have paper towel available for us, why not wash your hands before you go in and get the bags?
You don't have to do the steps in the exact order we do, it is just how we train our students. If washing your hands first works better for you, then you can do that. My students put out trash bins first so that they do not touch bins with clean hands.
I followed the exact steps and failed by 1 point. I’m sick. I’m going to have to go Grand Rapids. The beginning and ending is where I keep scoring the lowest.
@NM-iv7wv So sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, they don't tell you why you lose points. I know that both locations are not consistently testing the same way.
@@joellezebarah9597 have any students done zoom?
Question…. Do they require us to wear gloves for every service now? I took this test in 2007 and now going back to retest as I let my license lapse 🤦🏼♀️
You don't have to wear gloves at all. We just choose to wear them.
If you choose to wear them, then definitely change them with each service. You must change them with every client, and that's what you are showing them at state board. You are basically showing them that you wouldn't wear one pair of gloves with multiple clients/services.
I failed my test by 1 point last time. So when I retake it in 3 weeks, I hope doing it this way helps me pass.
I failed mine by 1 point last time too!
@user-hg8pi2nf8h I passed doing it without the water bowl, polishing, sanitizing the entire station in between, new towel every time, doing set up then sanitizing mine and the doll hand then re sanitizing both at the start of the task and putting on gloves for the service. I also did the zoom option for the practical and online for the written
