I Made A Custom Reamer for Calcium Buildup
Просмотров 2362 месяца назад
At work we have these solenoids that water flows through them. on the output side calcium and lime build up quite often a d it ends uo restricting water flow and at worst it stops up. the tool they gave us to knock the build up out is total crap. I got tired of the crap tools that bend constantly so I decided to make a better heavier duty one. I used some small stainless steel barstock that I h...

Making a custom brake pedal for a Harley Davidson
Просмотров 174Год назад
I had a request to make a custom part for a customers motorcycle. The customer is taking his brake pedal off of his Harley Davidson and wants to put the round chrome piece on it. The chrome piece is a reproduction brake pedal for a Ford model A. The center originally had a rubber/plastiky grip part in the middle covering up the allen bolt. The customer asked me to machine a custom pad to fit in...

We got thr lathe and mill moved into the shop this past weekend a d Im super excited about it! Unfortunately after sitting in storage for about six months they developed rust on all the shiney metal. I ran across this stuff by Rustoleum called Rust Dissolver and it works amazingly well! It removes the rust and the black stain that is caused by the rust when its removed.

The Wells-Index 645 Mill Is Alive and Making Chips Again!! 😁
It's probably around 135 / 140Kg, like many other similar drill presses. Yours is the good stuff because it's a split head design and it allows one adjust the slop in the quill. I paid a lot to get a new one (Jet JDP-20MF) just to get the split head feature. There were cheaper alternatives of about the same size and weight, but since they are not adjustable, over time will develop play between the quill and the head casting and one won't be able to compensate. It's those small details what makes all the difference.
When I saw the title I was wondering why anybody would make a reamer out of metallic calcium. Now I get it.
Had to drill out my spindle, a replacement one. They drilled it to 16mm in the centre, 19mm rear end. As it was good quality steel, metal drills did nothing. So, I used a tungsten tipped rock drill, shaped to suit. With coolant went through easily.
0:27 CAT!
Just got a similar piece. You would think for about $200 worth of brass and what they charge for shipping they would pack it a little better! The brass isn't as likely to be damaged; it's the box being destroyed from the inside due to the brass moving around that's the risk.
How much?
How much what?
very helpful thanks for the demo, it makes decisions when buying on a budget easier when you know the tool works as it should
Glad it was helpful!
Great finish on the hardened spring steel. Can't go wrong for that price.
I have been very happy with its performance.
Cleaning out my shop i found a forgotten broken 20yr roundhead ratchet. I was surprised they warrantied it even though it was discontinued. They told me just to pick out the closest to it and that was it. Easiest process ever!
Great to know!
I'm getting one of these because of the warranty. Had a Fiskars file (looks the same) in my cart, for checkout, then said, "I know the Fiskars is better, but with a home depot around the corner and that warranty on the husky", well........the Husky it tiz.
Where's the irony?
A Video showing that a lifetime warranty is a lifetime warranty... REALLY??? For me this video was a GIANT waste of time.
The video is showing that this Husky product has a lifetime warranty for people that did not know that originally like myself. I didnt know it had a lifetime warranty when I purchased my first one. I thought if I missed the warranty info when I ourchased my first one then Im sure others might have missed it as well.
Shocker... News Flash ALL HUSKY HAND TOOLS COME WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY. Your video is rediculous and screams " I was bored on a Saturday, so I made a useless video". Please go away.
Chain saws don’t have blades
They have hundreds of little blades 😁 I was wondering also why they kept these files by the chainsaw blades. If Im not mistaken normally chainsaw blades are sharpened with a round file to help keep the tooth profile.
@@kep-kraftindustries3759 depending on the chain, some use a 3corner file, the flat file is used to lower the raker(be careful, not to much.. there used to be a little gague that would go over the raker to help adjust the heights)
I might pick one up some time
I literally use mine everyday.
Great tip! Awesome
Got,one
Cool
Thats how I clean mine, I use 100% vinegar then wash them with baking soda, oil them up with 30 weight oil and wrap them in burlap.
Great tip! Thank you for the update! I just subbed!
Glad you found it useful and thank you for subscribing! 🙏
Hopefully it won't be one of the husky tools with a lifetime warranty that you can't use because they stop carrying it.
Fiskars Yard tools are lifetime warranty also. They are good quality to begin with, If you break them, You can return to the store or Fiskars even without a receipt. I'll always buy Fiskars and definitely pick them up if I see them at a garage sale.
Thats good to know!
A maker of diamond files here suggests cleaning them with Comet or Ajax chlorine powder cleanser. I think it some how gets the fine material out of the grit portion.
I will have to give that a try next time my file seems to be loaded up.
@@kep-kraftindustries3759 Felco recommends it for their #903.
I wouldn’t have given you a refund without the original receipt, and you probably didn’t have that , personally I think you are a cheap skate .
Well, at least he’s not a jerk like you, Mr. Allen
Had they asked for the original receipt I would of gladly given it to them. I have a Home Depot pro account and any purchases I make with them automatically emails me a copy of the receipt. Im not a cheapskate. A warranty return is a warranty return. It would be the same if I was to return a tool for replacement for Snap-on, Kobalt, Matco, Harbor Freight or any of the others that offer unconditional replacement warranty.
Love the gerstner ‼️
Thank you. I was originally my fathers. He was a machinist for 50+ years.
They must have made an error
Who made an error, Home Depot?
So you drove 60 miles round trip to save $6🤔
Lol no not at all. Quite often I drive all over the place in and around Dallas during the week. I just happened to buy this at one store and then thought about the warranty and got the refund at anorher store on the way home. The nearest Home Depot to my house is about 20 minutes away. Where I live there is only 8000 people so no major stores in my town 🤷♂️
Lowe's has a similar program. I've returned shovels that snapped.
Thats good to know as well. I have always liked the Kobalt wrenches
Nice, My only concern would be the grease on the threads because metal particles may stick to it. I personally like dry lube such as PTFE
Using dry lube is an excellent idea. If I start having issues with chips binding up the screw I will certainly consider looking into using something else.
See i know about brakes , kinda ... wheel bearing... okay ... 👍🏼
I'm a woman , i dunno what a Grommet is but im guna make a few wrong guesses and you can just tell me what it really is : - is it for a door ? - a car part ? - ummm... ok that's all i got. 😂
This was made for a church bell rope to pass through
Great tip! Other items such as Home Depot "house brand" Utilitech are also covered though perhaps not for a lifetime. I had a few LED light bulbs go dim or flicker and since there were the fancy kind they weren't cheap (about $6 each). I'd purchased a couple as spares so I still had the packaging - I waited till enough for a package failed and brought them back - they gave me new ones which have been fine since - I've learned to ask for a printed receipt tape it to the packaging or put on my spindle in the garage.
I never thought of returning a package of light bulbs but Im glad it worked out for you. The last time we bought LED bulbs was from Amazon. My wife found some deal where we got a case of 48 bulbs for about $24. We have replaced every bulb in the house and we still have plenty left over lol.
Sadly the nearest HD is an hour away.
You could always order one from online. They apparently offer the same warranty for Husky online purchases.
60 + miles, a 1 hour 30 minute trip for me. I do the trip once a week not just for HD but for organic grocery shopping.
@@Tinkercatnheven better so you wont be going out of your way.
I guess this is a copy of a Kurt vice? Interesting to see the "hook" that pulls the moving jaw down.
I also have a Wells 645, and needed to remove the head. I fabricated a weldment that had a vertical tube, that I lined with a section of ABS plastic pipe, with an internal diameter, the same size as the quill. Bolted that to the table, inserted the quill into the fixture, and unbolted the head. Worked perfectly!!! I don't know why, so many people abused these old Wels, Index milling machines, but those bolts being stripped off are very common. I made a new set. The circular rack had been stripped out, probably because some fool didn't loosen the locking bolts. I had to reference the rack to where there was a complete good section. It worked perfectly!!! I love the machine!!! I finally added a 4 axis DRO from DRO Pros, and it made it like a whole new machine, despite having used it for years with out a DRO. I an considering a VFD, to make speed changes easier, but the pully system really isn't that bad. I have never run out of power with the stock motor. I am probably going to fit a servo drive to the knee, to make for easier set ups for the kind of work I do. However, I made a drill adapter that works very well, so I haven't gotten too motivated to fit the servo drive just yet. Great machine. Maybe some day I will fit a #40 taper spindle, as I think some of the 645's were so equipped!!! The standard Bridgeport collet assembly works just fine, I never bothered to fit a pneumatic closer, but maybe some day. Great machine, hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!!! LOL!!! Tim
A friend of mine that owns a garage stores his files in a jar of vinegar in the garage
She's such a precious 🙂
She is one of our babies and by far the most vocal. She will have conversations with you 😊
Thanks for the video, sir
Your welcome
Wonder what kind of oil that stuff is?
I put 90 weight oil in the gearbox
@@kep-kraftindustries3759 good. I tried a mix of Mobil-1 grease and the same brand of 75-90 gear oil - result was like a really thick kind of oil.. Both lubes were synthetic. Am wondering about using an ISO-460 or ISO-680 synthetic gear oil, though…
thanks brother
I got a number 26 one
Nice!
Can you Ting it ? I gotta hear the ting...😂
I did on the video that shows the finished product 😊
When a file is used on soft material like aluminum, you can use the same material to remove the the filings that stick. Holing the file in your left hand, stroke the material parallel with the teeth - pushing away from you. This was taught to me by lifetime tool and die/mold and jig machinist.(born 1938)
HOLDING the file
I took it a step farther and added a splash of Evaporust. The file looks and cuts like new
Use the Cleaning vinegar. It’s like 40% as apposed to the other stuff which is 10%
Henley’s Formulas for Home and Workshop, that 100 year old book, has a procedure for this using nitric acid. I don’t know a source for the acid though.
Many years ago I read that soaking a file in a 50/50 mixture of sulfuric acid and water will sharpen an old file. I never tried this though.
Lets call it rejuvenating the file. I have been doing this for years with full sftrength white vinegar overnight. I clean the file with a piece of copper pipe. Good for use on swiss files.
Thanks I intend to give it a try
Cleaning yes…sharpening…definitely not..🙄
