Austrian Victim Theory - Analysing Austria's Complicity in Nazism
Просмотров 8122 года назад
Following the end of WW2 and the proclamation of a Second Austrian Republic, the political leaders at the time desired to forge a new national identity. This involved categorically denying and ignoring Austria's complicity in the crimes of National Socialism, and portraying the nation as a victim of Hitler's aggression rather than a co-conspirator. The theory defined Austrian identity for much ...

German Socialists Vote for War - The SPD and the Question of National Defense prior to WWI
Просмотров 2482 года назад
The German Social Democratic Party, or SPD, originally founded as a revolutionary Socialist party, voted to grant the German government war credits to go to war in August 1914. Why did such a party, with a commitment to the class struggle and Marxist philosophy make such a decision? The party had thus officially abandoned its anti-imperialist philosophy in the name of national defense and self-...

Living in Barcelona since 2013, and then visiting again last month, reinforced my perception of the failure of Barcelonian socialism. The people there are very arrogant. They have a horrific sense of entitlement to anything free and generally speaking they are lazy and uncreative. They protest for more free time and they do nothing with that free time to better themselves or their community. The banks are atrocious and will outright steal your money, regardless of your rights that money and amount of documentation. The socialism of Barcelona has made me antisocialist, even though I was probably a socialist for most of my life. Liberals tend to be unorganized and undisciplined and this this tends to make them ineffective. So their ideas tend to be short-lived, begging the question about the value of those ideas if they cannot be actualized and maintained. Now in 2024 citizens of Barcelona are actively protesting against their own tourism industry, which again speaks to their arrogance and entitlement because they don’t really have any other major source of income other than tourism basically strangling their own economy, but they feel entitled to do so. my perception of socialism and the extent to which it can be attributed to Marx is that it has no goal other than freedom for no purpose. People want more free time and they want more money and they want to be part owners of the businesses, but they have no idea how to run a business they have no goal of doing anything with the money once they have it and they have no idea of actually improving their societies or themselves.

I am sorry to say that history only very rarely provides a clear cut division between hero and villain. In the Spanish Civil was this is particularly the case. On the one hand was a horribly disorganised Republic defined by ferocious anti-Catholicism, inter Party conflict between Socialists, Marxists, Anarchists and Soviet Communists, and the sadistic presence of the Soviet secret Police. On the other was a brutal Fascistic-military dictatorship headed by Franco, one defined by the systematic use of torture and mass murder. Neither side is at all appealing or very heroic.

The Russian offensives of 1914 were aimed to help saving Paris and the Western front - which they did. That main reason why they ended up disastrously is that they started without proper preparation, even before the Russian Army was fully mobilized. This is an important point unfortunately omitted in the video.

Unless Moscow was captured within 3-4 months (and the Soviet Government fell and sued for peace), the Germans faced a multi-year war, and Germany would lose. By mid-June 1942, Russia achieved superiority over Germany (in all areas-men aircraft, tanks, artillery and resources); and Germany's fate was sealed.

They cannot win a war with the Soviets on the field due to the extreme imbalance in numbers, no matter how many encirclements they pull off. So it had to end symbolically by taking the capital. At least then in the eyes of the international audience, the Germans had won.

I think the comment by Stalin that "Hitler would never attempt such a risky adventure". Goes a long way to explaining the early successes of the the Wehrmacht and the earlier 'bloodless' political victory in Czech and Austrian annexations. His and the western democracies to understand that Hitler was not just an old style "realpolitic" statesman in new clothes. But was a 'True Believer' and actually meant to do everything he said in his speeches, the Western democracies thought,(as they had seen many times before) that the insane things he said were just bombastic rabble rousing. No one,(before seeing Treblinka and Auschwitz) would credit such an inhuman vision of world domination.

@@nukelewmanI agree, the organisation of collectivised workplaces was brilliant, but the CNT and the Spanish proletariat generally seemed to lack a revolutionary leadership that could work with (rather than counteract like the comintern did) the spontaneous developments of the proletariat into these soviets but also establish a dictatorship of the proletariat to give the power of the state to these collectives of workers once the bourgeoisie state was smashed up like it was by the anarchists. I think a democratically centralised planned economy could have allowed the Spanish proletariat to use their factories to make weaponry, rather than relying on foreign weaponry and thus compromising their ideals and eventually losing the workers’ control of the economy. Obviously a comintern genuinely interested in supporting international revolution would have helped, and I don’t think Stalin and the rest of the USSR bureaucracy supported that.

While you cats were out looting, burning, rioting, and (ahem) 'unliving' dozens of people (whose sin was to say "all lives matter"), people were watching in livestream and cleaning their guns. All this for a dead thug who overdosed; so much for the "lockdowns" and "social distancing." Rioting negates those laws apparently. But there IS a bright side! You all got unmasked and no one in their ever-loving right minds will NEVER allow you in power. And the same goes for the people who were behind organizing/financing those riots. Magical pallets of bricks that 'appeared' days before the riots began, just happened to be placed on the 'route' of the riots, and were no where near any construction site. Yeah, we ALL saw it.
