How? How can I get copies of Clark's hand-written scores? I've tried for years, even reached out to his son who has all of them (he never responded to my inquiry) to no avail. "Night in the City" and "Big Wheels" remain my two all-time favorite ELO songs, much of it because of the string arrangements.

Where did the images of the handwritten scores come from?

another gem post :) this just shows the genius of the band and the arrangements totally stunning i grew up with this and inspired me to learn keyboards and create my own stuff.

Wow. What strange magic drew these insanely brilliant people together to make this wonderful music? Sometimes a miracle does just come out of the blue…

This is amazing. The breadth and depth of sound! And it is from a 47 year old cassette.

It’s amazing clearly hearing all the orchestral and choir details that were originally not prominent or buried in the final mix. Even after years of listening closely to the tracks, it’s still possible to find new things. It’d be marvellous if New World Record, Discovery and especially OOTB were re-released minus all the band vocals, only as instrumentals, like here, so the orchestral and choral arrangements could really shine

Brilliant. Fascinating to hear how much more is going on than you can actually hear!!! And all those years I've been mishearing the Jungle Chorus as "do you know the answer have you heard the word?" But they're singing something differrent....in German? The fishers of England are cooking tonight?

Are those extra German lyrics in the Jungle part? I know the released track has 'Im Dschungel, da tanzten die Tiere herum'

This has bought tears to my eyes , just to be able to listen to the string's in isolation like this is very moving.

I can't believe I'm just now discovering this... wow. If there ever was a Criterion-like release of an album this would be the kind of stuff you would find on it. Xanadu was the album when I was 9-years old in 1980 that made me a lifelong fan of ELO. I was hearing this rock band with this incredible orchestral sound and Louis Clark was the man who gave it that sound.

When I was a little kid, I'd play records I wasn't allowed to touch! Mostly classical & mums olden goodies lol I'd watch the trees outside swaying in the wind, like they were dancing to the music 🎶 have so many great memories listening to music as a kid & luckily ELO 😀
