An aspect i like about Duel is that when you are in real danger, other people can disbelieve you, mock you, abandon you when you are SO DESPERATE for help. Dennis Weaver played all those emotions perfectly. And i like the end sequence of the monster truck rolling in slow motion over the dusty cliff. Speilberg even slowed the sound of the creaking, moaning, screaming metal as it 'died'. Looking like a monstrous hippo, a or an unreal, evil creature refusing to die. The truck driver was never identified apart from his boots...maybe ....👀 Superb movie. 🎉

I wonder if this is the same writer who authored short western novels. Interesting fact about this short story is that it appeared in an issue of Playboy Magazine too.

Carey Loftin trained my grandfather in stunts and he became the first black stunt coordinator in Hollywood and went on to train and mentor other stuntmen and women.

My father married Richard Mathesons daughter and I have a half sister and brother...! Richard Matheson wrote Duel, and gave Spielberg permission and a chance to direct it...!

Hopefully, one day, we would get a sequel. Duel, I never had enough of it.

This is one of the most heart-pounding, truly terrifying films I've ever seen. The great Richard Matheson could scare you like nobody else..the man was pure genius! I also have Mr Matheson's novelette of "Duel". And Spielberg brought it to film to perfection. Absolute brilliance! ❤

Richard, I have read and re-read this wonderfully scary tale over the many years I have had a copy of it! And, I do the the same with the movie. I still retain the wonder of reading this amazing tale for the first time. It's time I read it again! Thank you, sir!😀

@02:44 ...lol...Even though I know the kid is portraying 'Treach' as a youngster-- seeing this for the first time-- I now can't get the thought of Robert Shaw producing the same shriek out of my mind. Mr. Robert Shaw. One of my favorites. I wish he had graced the screen (and stage) longer than he did. I remember being very sadden when learning about his sudden death. STRIKING presense, and a rare intensity that ALWAYS dominated a scene. And he did it so effortlessly. True artist and craftsman. RIP, Mr. Shaw. ( thanks for sharing, Darren Fuge 👍)

what a freaking film it holds up, but it's like just a great thriller that doesn't answer all your questions because it doesn't matter, what are we going to see the truck drivers? Just a crazy dude no it's such more powerful imagery to have him just be a arm. It really makes the truck seem like such a monster like a t-rex with tiny arms. What a beautiful film very effective makes me think about it long after I've seen it

Funny how basicaly the movie was supossed to be all fake and full of inside shots, even when they tried to fake a shot with a crane it just broke and they had to throw the truck of the cliff by driving it and then jumping off it. Absolute legend

This movie provides so many theories and possibilities of who was driving this truck. I must have watched this movie 100 times and every time, I detect a clue of some sort. I have often thought of writing to Stephen Spielberg and asking him to write a sequel to this movie. Over the last few decades, I have visions of how the finale of this movie should end. It is a rare gem of a movie that needs to be reopened sort of like a cold case file. It would be tremendous!

Duel should have been a series instead of a movie. Every week that wacko truck driver chasing some innocent vacationer, salesman, delivery clerk etc; it would have been fabulous. And every week have him driving over a cliff in a different truck, bus, winnebego etc; what fun, and have close-ups of him (the driver) bandaged up, on crutches, in a full body cast etc; I love it

Excellent film altho I think it would have been a better film if it was shot in black&white (like Psycho) instead of color and had either Steve McQueen or Jack Nicholson in the lead role. Altho I don't think either McQueen or Nicholson had the 'range' as actors that Weaver had.

An amazing talent, he was 24, 25 years old when he directed this. What were you doing at age 24? Even if you're successful today..... What were you doing at 24? Thank you Mr. Spielberg for all the hours of quality entertainment you've given me, for that matter, given the world.

I remember seeing it in 1971, 11 years old. The ad in TV Guide read something like, “10 tons of rolling death.” I’ve been hooked ever since.
