BuiltByBob Garage is just a day and the life of Bob Stevens in the garage, I've been building cars for 30 years and just want to share my experiences with everyone, I originally built drag cars in Miami Florida where I was born and raised, I was 13 yrs old when I built my first engine with my Dad just after hurricane Andrew, from there I never stopped and never looked back. Thanks for taking the time to view my channel and hope you enjoy
R32 Skyline GTR RB26dett
I have always had a soft spot for the Nissan R32 Skyline GTR since I was a kid, so when Andy called me and said he wanted me to fix up his for the Japfest car show in Mondello I couldn't say no, we took the car in to fix some oil leaks, make the exhaust a little bit louder, and fix up the engine bay by painting the valve covers a candy red so he could open the hood at the car show with pride, I think we pulled it off and he was happy, the car made the show and got a lot of attention, Andy has a few cars that I look after for him and he has been a loyal customer for many years, thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed the content

The Chevy OBS trucks have always been a big part of my life, I remember driving by the Chevy dealership as a kid with my dad and instantly I was obsessed with them, at one point me, my brother, and my dad all had extra cab short bed Chevy Silverado' at the same time and I also had a single cab long bed, so when this truck came up for sale I had to get it and I wanted to make a shop truck, so af...
1968 DODGE CHARGER R/T 440 Engine Failure

Rowan contacted me to take the Charger apart to find out why it had a misfire and a tapping noise in the top end, so we took the car in to do the job and had a discussion to possibly swap a different into the charger but nothing has been finalised yet for now we will take it apart and inspect the damage, hopefully there isn't to much damage and we can save the 440. 1969 Camaro SS 454 Big Block Blower Overhaul
Просмотров 6246 месяцев назад
I built the 454 in the Camaro years ago so the customer came back to upgrade to aluminium heads but things escalated quickly and we ended up doing a full overhaul, we didn't have a big time frame so we knocked it out as fast as possible, and we are happy with the end result, hope you guys enjoy!

Where you from man ? You have a strange accent I can’t put my finger on . I feel like you’re from somewhere else and have lived wherever you are for half your life and kinda have two different accents mixed into one .
Garcia Laura Rodriguez Charles Miller Donna
Beautiful..you gave me hope..my first car I purchased was a 1984 Buick Lesabre 2 door Limited..I loved that car so much..I hope to get another one soon and build it classic/modern style..looks good under the hood..👌🏾
Thanks for watching 👍I love that car, with the LS makes it fun to drive, well worth the swap, if you get one you should definitely put a LS in it

How much
Grand job Bob, looks great.
After all these years, you still picking that nose. 😂
Hi Bob, great video mate, very informative. We are building a very similar lsx454, but with a 3.3l Whipple. In The video you say you’re running a 4.15” stroke, have you modified the stroke from the standard 4.125”? Cheers!
Thanks for watching 👍 glad you enjoyed it, yes the BC rotating assembly was a 4.15” stroke which was the only thing available at the time
@@builtbybob_garage thanks for getting back to me mate and the info👍🏼
Platigauge should be know where near an engine like this
Thanks for the advice, and thanks for watching👍, the plastigauge must have done the trick because he’s done over 18 events and the engine made 1100hp and running no problems with good oil pressure
I have an 82 Vette with a Dart SHP 427 making 550hp. I use a 4L8E with a US-Shift 4 TCU. I never really liked Lambo doors an any car other than a Lamborghini. The body is designed for the door to work. Everything else has this retrofit double hinge si the door doesn't hit the body.. I would love to see some one try a Koenigsegg hing on a customised car. That has a set of gears rods and arms to make the for rotate forward as it moves out parallel to the car.
Beautiful.
Thank you👍
Any idea as to who made the fender flares or the body kit?
The customer made them himself actually, thanks for watching 👍
Looks fresh 🙌🏻
Thanks Jim, I have a PS13 to do you soon which will be fresher 😏, thanks for watching Jim👍
@@builtbybob_garage can’t wait for that video ☺️
😂coming soon
What country are you in ?
I’m in Ireland, but I’m American, I was born and raised in Miami, I moved over here 15 yrs ago, thanks for watching 👍
Looks a lot nicer. I also love that car since my childhood, and it’s my 16 year old son favorite car, so maybe some time I the future…. I’d love to rebuild one of those
Yeah there a cool car and they are with so much now, I remember in 2010 a friend of mine bought a mint r32 GTR for 7k and around the same time I bought a r32 gtst for 1k, but those days are gone, thanks for watching 👍
I think you are a GTR specialist
😂😂 I’ve built a lot of RB’s and I know a good bit about them but I wouldn’t know all the brochure facts if ya get me, thanks for watching 👍
The engine looks really good. The saying is " time is of the essence".
Thanks for watching, 😂😂

Is the LSX different from other ls blocks?
Actually the only difference is it’s a 4.185” and has LSX casted all over it, thanks for watching 👍
@@builtbybob_garage thanks so I guess the same thing can be done to an ls block without having to pay for the badging ?
@@travisreddick7325 yeah you can do the same with a LQ4/LQ9 block
@@builtbybob_garage cool thanks for the info I've never really dealt with ls blocks
@@travisreddick7325no problem I have another LS1 engine build video coming out soon if I can ever finish editing it 🤦
No assembly lube was used to make this😂
He say she say 👍
Most people dont go with that much stroke on forced induction. Curious to see how long it lasts if they run it.
Well it’s been 9 months and they have been doing event after event and no issues, the engine before that was the same stroke and lasted 3 years, but only running 14psi, thanks for watching 👍
I would have did a roller cam in it
Yeah would have been nice but everything comes down to budget, thanks for watching 👍
Just so you know, even though those valves lapped in fine , You really need to change the Speedmaster seats and do a complete valve job. They are known for cracking and dropping broken pieces in engines.
Yeah I’ve always been suspicious of the Speedmaster stuff, but it wasn’t my call on the parts, I was just provided them, the customer had a budget, I only cover engines I build when I provide parts
Nice work Bob, I may be able to help you out with some parts for that as there's quite a bit in common across Chevy vans and trucks. See you soon hopefully, at Cars and Coffee maybe.
Cool 👍 yeah I’ll be at the next cars and coffee bray
I like how you set up your stuff. Man, you gotta build my motto 351 Cleveland I'm gonna get in touch with you.
Thanks 👍 yeah contact me on instagram @built_by_bob, thanks for watching
Never wanted a truck so bad
😂😂 Build a drift truck 🤔
I thought I recognised that chevy. I sold it a few years ago
Did you sell it in Ireland or from America?
@@builtbybob_garage yes in Ireland. I'm in Moira County Down I bought it of a man in Donaghadee. He had some engine trouble with it and had a local American car mechanic put that 305 in. I only had it a couple months then sold it to get a 1989 k1500 silverado instead. It's had a few owner since me. good to see it's still about
Cool I’ve always wondered the history of it, so she’s been around the block😂 well when I’m done with it will be a cool machine👍
One thing you’re gonna have to do is notch the middle bed brace. The rear diff will hit that brace if you hit a big dip which could break the brake line that’s mounted up there. I notched my brace and unbolted the brake line from the rear diff and just bent it back some so that it wasn’t higher than the top of the rear diff
Yeah right after I finished the video and took it for a long drive I heard a bang every once and a while so I brought it back to the garage and put it on the ramp and exactly as you said, I ended up cutting out the middle of the brace over the diff, and I put the brake line a bolt hole lower and bent it, thanks for watching 👍
I like the the way the truck turned out. What country are you in?
I live in Wicklow Ireland now but I was born and raised in Miami Florida, thanks for watching 👍
@@builtbybob_garage Ok I saw people driving on the wrong side of the road and you were talking about millimeters. I got really mixed up when almost every car and truck was American lol.
😂😂yeah the American car scene is big over here, but yeah I can imagine you watching saying what in the hell is going on here😂😂
Great looking truck 👌
Thanks boss, in the next video I think or hope you will like it more😎
Awesomeness Bob
Thanks boss 👍 and thanks for watching
What happens if i youse silocone rtv gasket maker insted of the o ring on the thrust plate and on the rear main seal cover ??
The silicone will break off and clog the oil feed holes, I highly wouldn’t recommend using silicone, thanks for watching 👍
I’m hoping to get my 454 block soon. When I do I’m definitely going supercharged.
Yeah the supercharged 454 is a beast to drive, I enjoy it but you have to forget about gas mileage 😂, thanks for watching 👍
I saw Will’s of Dying Breed Garage post about your channel. I just subscribed. Great content, the cars are great and this Charger is extremely well restored. Look forward to seeing more
Thank you I appreciate the support, I hope you enjoy, there will be more content on this car, thanks for watching 👍
I watched a video of a 440 being stripped down and the guy found 6 of the pistons were installed with the wrong orientation( they were installed in the wrong cylinders). An intake valve kissed a smaller exhaust valve relief and bent the valve. It would not have been a problem if it had flat top pistons. People are just not paying attention to details like the upside down rocker shaft in this engine.
Yeah Ive seen some crazy things over the years, the most common mistake I see on the v8’s is the thrust side of the rod on the wrong side of the crank, or the bearings put in top to bottom, I have a procedure I stick to when building engines so that way I don’t overlook anything but we are human we all make mistakes, but it’s just important to take your time and think about what your doing, thanks for watching 👍
Wow!!! Awesome 68...
Yeah is a nice car, thanks for watching 👍
Used to say " splashdown" or " time for my antifreeze shower" when opening cooling systems LOL😂
😂😂I knew it would make a mess but didn’t expect it to be that bad, thanks for watching 👍
NICE WORK WISH U LIVED BY ME IN US
Thanks👍 you never know I might go back one day 🤔
Great channels 💪🏽
Thanks, I hope you enjoy the content to come, thanks for watching 👍
A friend of mine had a 68 charger. It had a base 318 engine. LOL
When I was 19 my friend had a Dodge Dakota with a 318 and man he beat the hell out of that engine and never gave him any trouble and he tried to blow it up, 318’s are some engine, thanks for watching 👍
Nice work Bob. There's a certain satisfaction of finding and correcting a previous owner or builders mistakes/hack jobs. Be nicer still if angle grinder crank balancing wasn't a thing.
Yeah the crank balancing is just back yard boogie spec, I’m just glad it didn’t cause any major damage and the engine is ok, because it had to have been low on oil pressure, thanks for watching 👍
Had to comment about what you said at the end. You’re a Chevy guy but at your age you appreciate them all. I’m 50 and I am a GM guy but I love all American makes. I have Fords, Pontiac, Dodges, Chevy, GMC, Olds, Buicks and even a VW Beetle so I hear what you’re saying. The older you get the more you appreciate them all. Cool video. IMHO, I would do the 440 and keep the 4-speed. If he wants more power the 440 is up to the task.
Yeah I used to be so anti Ford and Mopar if it wasn’t a Chevy I didn’t care but as you mature you realise the nostalgia of all makes and models, yeah I will price all options with the customer and see what he decides, but regardless the 440 will be built either way and kept, thanks for watching 👍
@@builtbybob_garage Very cool! I was a die hard Pontiac guy but same, as I got older I drove different cars and realized that there are a lot of cool cars of all makes but my first love is Pontiac and Chevy. My dad worked for GM for 31 years
Not very special!? You are way too modest my friend. That is a beautiful car! I have a 69 Charger SE 383HP automatic B3 blue. Best of luck with it! Definitely will be following along!👍👍👍
Yeah I hear you, I think I meant it’s not fully built race engine, but your right it is a R/T 440 which is pretty special, there will be more videos of this care and I hope you enjoy the content, thanks for watching 👍
@@builtbybob_garage Yeah I definitely misheard you. I definitely will be following along. My Charger has the original 383 HP and was built by a Mopar guru. We matched the cam to the converter, gears etc. and built it the strongest we could with the stock crank, heads since the motor was never cracked open. We got 425-450 hp depending on the tune and if I’m running straight race gas or 1/2 93. Fun car to drive because it’s not crazy just cruising but when you get on it she gets rowdy. In a couple of months will start putting together a 76 Dodge Coronet ex CHP with its original 440 that dynoed at 513hp. We are going to put a 150 shot of nitrous on top. It’s going to be a sleeper. I will be putting some videos up to document the build so my daughter can see what her dad did when she was little. Thanks for sharing 👍
@@MrWill731976 Cornet will definitely be a sleeper with a 440, I’m no Mopar guru but I’ve been building engines for 30 years, I would know my way around a Chevy with my eyes closed but I’m up for the challenge with the Mopar’s, I’ve always been fascinated by the Mopar’s because in Miami where I grew up they just didn’t exist
@@builtbybob_garage The BB Chrysler imo is a great motor to work on because it is very well engineered. I’m sure with your experience you will have it built no sweat. I have a lot of family in Miami. My parents were born in Cuba and came to the U.S in 1960. They came to N.J. But tons of family settled in Miami. That’s interesting that you say not a lot of Mopars were in Miami. Did you ever find out why?
@@MrWill73 Jeez it’s a small world, yeah I’m not sure why there weren’t any Mopars in Miami but growing up in the late 80’s early 90’s they were just never around, I’ve been to a Hundred car shows in Miami and never seen any, but when we went to Moroso drag strip in west palm you would see 2 or 3 but that’s it, mainly all you would see is Chevys and Fords, also I subscribed to your channel 🤟
Ive been sayin Twanky for 20's for awhile probably since high school lol I use to be like hey look at them twanky twos 😂
😂yeah back in Miami we used to call them Twenky Twenky😂😂
@builtbybob_garage Now when you say Miami do you mean Miami or Miamuh Oklahoma still spelled Miami it's just Oklahoma if you mean the latter that makes sense I'm in Tulsa 😆
@Wbroach24 No I’m originally from Miami Florida 305 Dade County 🤟 but I live in Ireland now
