Hi, what about when my son hits / hurts my daughter or my dog. How can I manage that without consequence? Currently he looses 30 minutes of being awake time (he goes to bed 30 minutes earlier) and so does my daughter. If either of them swears or hurts the other they lose 30 minutes and go to be earlier. It seems to work - what would you suggest as an alternative. We still take them to bed, read to them, tuck them in & send them to sleep with love. My son is 10 & has ADHD and my daughter is 7 and appears to be neurotypical. Thanks

I've only watched a few minutes of your video so far, but I agree, that DOES make some sense that the most important thing for kids to be successful is to have a happy mother. I'll listen to the rest of what you say to see if I agree with that, too.

This is super helpful! I am literally thinking of how I show empathy to my best friend when she is going through a hard time. We have been best friends for over 15 years so we have a lot of practice with our communication. I am a mom of a 5 year old and 3 year old and I am still learning. It is interesting how it does not translate to everyone. But I am the adult and I need to lead them. I hope to incorporate this is my relationships with my children.Thank you!

This is why gentle parenting gets a bad rap. This is not gentle parenting. Gentle parenting would be offering a hug and then talking. Talking with this kid and making sure that she understands why what she did was wrong. Talking to her and finding out if she really means what she said and why she said it. And it’s understanding that if this behavior continues then there will be consequences.

This isn’t love… it’s not setting your kids up for the reality that the world could give a f$&@ less how they feel. This is coddling. Period. This is sending children into battle with butter knives. SGT Roesler US Army OIF/OEF…. I’ve had to turn these peoples children into adults both in the service and in the trades. Kids like this get chewed up like bubble gum… and spit out. And then they blame everyone else. You aren’t being a good parent by letting a child direct/disrespect you… you’re being a weak piece of 💩 that is replicating more weak pieces of 💩. Eg my first comment. She should have known what her own 🩸 tastes like…. You either show her and she learns… or the world shows her on a street corner or on that 🌶️ site…. This is how cam girls grow up.

My mom does it and I'm perfectly fine, I never really said anything absolutely unkind I'm a good kid and people tell me that so I'm guessing I'm a good kid, but my mom always treats me with kindness and I treat her the same way, I'm not saying all kids are the same but that's how I am raised and I never take advantage of it.

So if I understand the position of those who feel connection is not for ND kids .... NT kids ... Use connection so the kids want to do the right thing. ND kids, with whom connection is difficult, so don't try and use reward and punishment. No. Children NEED NEED NEED connection. Not just to fear the consequences of their behaviour, but because learning emotional regulation, self compassion and connecting with other people are essential for a happy productive life. I was emotionally neglected as a child - no 'connection' - no hugs, no "i love you"s' .... I have complex PTSD as a result and am incapable of feeling happy. I am fifty maybe only felt happy once in my life and been utterly incapable of maintaining any kind of relationship. For those who advocate for not connecting with their children, read Pete Walkers' book, "CPTSD - from surviving to thriving".

Because adults are corrupted by the nature of the world and must function within it. Children aren't subject to that. The rules we give kids are (more often than not) meant to protect them from the kind of trauma that ends a childhood early and makes you bitter and cynical.
