Gardening on Purpose
Добавлен 18 май 2022
Hi. I'm Arah and I garden in zone 8A (South East US). I love plants! My garden is my safe space. I garden in containers and in-ground and although I mostly do flower gardening, I have a small vegetable garden as well.
I enjoy clearance plant shopping, reviving damaged or stressed out plants, designing and planting up my landscape with annuals, perennials, evergreens and shrubs.
Please like, comment and subscribe and follow me as I journey through the wonderful world of gardening.

Already got a few bulbs myself!
Thank you for the informative video. I am excited to check my Lowe’s. I got the Queen Elizabeth last year from Lowe’s but somehow it didn’t survive, can someone please explain what could be the reason. I planted it in my yard where it gets full morning sunlight
@barnaleehota7926 you are welcome. Roses need full sun. 6 hours or more. Also plant them in an area with good air circulation and where water doesn't pool after heavy rain. Also plant them at least 3 feet from each other. They are heavy feeders too, so I fertilize in March and June
Thank you! I really appreciate this video! Hoping to see the same assortment here in RI.
I grew up south of you in zone 8b, now it’s right on the border of 8b and 9a. I used to grow lots of lilies, including stargazer. But I live in the Pacific Northwest now and the deer eat them here whereas I never had deer problems when I lived in the rural south, possibly due to hunters or maybe they just had enough land they weren’t foraging in yards, or both. But here, deer are a big problem for me so lilies are a waste of my money as I wouldn’t get any blooms. Miss them and love the scent. 😊
I don’t always have the best luck with these types of packaged bare roots and bulbs, but unlike the other comments I see, I do think that the prices are GREAT compared to mail order, and you don’t also have to pay shipping, and even if only 50% do well, it’s still a really good deal as long as these are the varieties you are looking for. For example, I have mail ordered cannas before at $30 each, and paid shipping on top of that, here you get 3 for less than $6 or 2 of the variegated ones for under $6. Similar bargains here for the dahlias which are also expensive to mail order. I would snap these up in a heartbeat! Costco can also be a good option for packaged bulbs.
By the way, I subbed. Really enjoyed seeing what is available at such good prices! Hope you will update in a future video on which ones you purchased and then at the end of the season how they did for you.
I am in 5b ...... we have a few months of winter😂
When Wal-Mart Conyers Georgia USA store get, I will get bareroot rose plants. I love rose.
So exciting 🍀🌿🌵💚💚💚
You are making me excited for spring. Here, in snowy cold Idaho, we don’t have any flowers or bulbs out yet!
@@MsCourtJay i know the feeling. Some great varieties are coming your way soon.
I have Angel Face, Midas Touch, Sun Sprite, Zephirine Drouhin, and Belinda's Dream. Belinda's Dream is one of my favorite roses, very beautiful and a prolific bloomer. I want to get another one of those this year. Thanks for the tour Arah!
@LucyMorningstar999 oh wow. That's great. I might go back and pick up the Belinda's dream.
Great selection. Prices seem high, but in a warmer climate, my come back every year. Think investment. Less annuals you need to buy.
What area are you in? State
It says at the beginning that she’s in Georgia zone 8
Our Lowes got them in about 3 weeks ago and.I picked up an Earth Angle and a Michelangelo. They both have grown tremendously since then. Sweet Madamoisellle has been on my list, but my Lowes didn't have it. I was so excited to see yours does! Also on the lookout for Eden climbing rose. Would love to hear if you see one anywhere. I feel like they were everywhere last year before I knew I wanted one.
I have several from Lowes, seems they have some very old and large root stock. I've had 3 climbers get thorny rose disease and not bloom for years so I dug them out.
Do you need to plant bare-root roses right away after you buy them?I'm planning to buy one and plant them in big container. Also I live in North Carolina and it's cold here do you think it's safe to plant them right now?I'm new to Roses hoping for your reply thanks!
@maricarV1998 hi there, I plant mine in the landscape around the 3rd week in February. I've done that for the last 3 years and they've done well. They are fine to put in containers too.
My Costco in Knoxville has their bulbs and roses. It has begun!! 😂

Any success growing peonies and strawberries?
@mrsmango76 yes. The chipmunks and squirrels get to them before I do sometimes.. I have 2 peonies in the yard already. Vogue and Inspector Laverne. They do quite well.
Oooo! I really like Scentimental!!
@@daymoonfarm2903 it is pretty
I may have to get a few bareroot roses this year. I can always put them in big pots and take them with me when I move.
@daymoonfarm2903 thats a great idea. I might put some in pots too since I'm running out of ground space.
Hi Arrah 🌺.How beautiful these roses .Stunning colors . I have a lot of roses in my garden and I will add more . Have a great day .🌺🌻🌺

I got my Jumbo Elephant ear bulbs at WM last year and they did awesome!
@karenschrantz2307 i love those. I have some called Magnum and they do great too.
Those are good prices for bare root plants. I wonder whey they put a drawing of three bulbs on the packages. Except for the lilies, those aren't bulbs. Up here in Iowa we have seed packets for sale but no live roots.
@kimedge7493 I agree. the prices are definitely better than the orange and the blue store. Hopefully you'll start seeing live roots soon.
Thanks!I have to run to grab them they go fast.
@RosaPerez-ce9dv you are so right. I like to grab them too so I can get the best quality
Look like I’ll be trying my hands at winter sowing this yr. Those prices are insane
Thank you! I love your calm methodical approach to showing us plant inventories. ☺️
💕 🌺 🌼 💕
Your Walmart has a much larger selection than mine. I'm going back in a few days to see if they have gotten anything else in.
@sharonhart1232 Hopefully you find sone good once once they stock up more
Hi Arria, do you recall seeing Siberian iris anywhere? I love the stained glass hostas there
@DianeSchicker hi there. No I haven't seen that one yet. I'll keep an eye out for sure.
Crazy high prices for only 3 bulbs. 😮

I can't plant bulbs until May in west Virginia What do you do with them until time to plant. I like tiger lillys.
@estherharrison3786 Hi there. I keep them in a cool dry place. Pretty much a shelf in the living room, on a shelf. Then in late February i will jump start them in small pots and keep them in the garage until my last frost date which is around April 15th.
When u planning them girl?
@@ivethcerrato351 hi there. I'll pot them up in February and leave them in the unheated garage. Then I'll plant them out in the landscape after my frost date.
@gardeningonpurpose3334 i can do it inside of the house as well?? I don't have a garage and when I wait to buy them until the season is approaching to plant them in the ground, they are no longer in the stores.😭😭
@ivethcerrato351 yes you can start them in the house... but once they sprout, they'll need some light.. so if you got a space that can accommodate that.. that would be great.
@gardeningonpurpose3334 great thank so much!! I can't wait to see all you flowers in spring i love love you garden💚🫶🫶🫶
Wow thats a nice snowfall❤🌫
Hi from SE PA where it is very cold!! I always planted bulbs in the Fall. Do you keep the bulbs in a dark cool place until you plant them?
@lindakay8171 yes, I pot them up in February..and keep them there until April 15th..then I bring them out into the landscape.
@@gardeningonpurpose3334 Thanks
Honestly Lilies DO NOT COMPARE TO GLADS....GLADS ARE WAY EASIER TO GROW. HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE BULB.
