Do-More PLCs and Basic Ladder Logic
I love the crap out of Automation Direct for their cheap priced industrial hardware. I have saved so much money in my life going to them vs. Granger or other industrial suppliers. No they are not paying me for this... But I think if you are wanting to play with a PLC for a simple project there is no better place to look than Automation direct!
Here is a link to the Do More PLCs discussed in this video www.automationdirect.com/do-more

    I never had much luck with the first 68000 it was kind of a slowpoke. What I did like was Motorola's decoupling of the DSP so you could run some things fast on a slow system. I used to run NeXT machines at work (the 040-33 mono slab was the best one) and really liked those until I discovered PA-RISC, which runs the same OS+software. I also kinda like the 68332 Motorola made a "credit card computer" engineering product out of that it was just stellar. I think nowadays the most fun way of doing all this would be to pair a CPU with a FPGA supported by open-source tools. By going that route you can build all kinds of two-chip solutions using vintage electronics... no need for high chip count anymore. I mean before the pandemic you could get SRAMs for free practically but now golly- I think if you have the original CPU and an FGPA then it's enough. Put another way if you're going to make a 68000 board then y'know that chip's appeal is really just the novelty of its form-factor... so nice maybe to pair it up next to a big honking brushed metal Xilinx part from 2013 or so!

    In the mid 80s my neighbor wat a wwii vet and he said the g meant government and that no warranty was honored. But he also said that was if it was owned by the government and if a citizen owned it that they would honor a warranty but when he traded in or had one fixed it was 20 years after the war was over so time might habe been why they did. I know they do now because my brother got some old tools fixed for free and a couple swapped for new and it all had the g.

      Depends on the date of the tool. G was indeed a government tool stamp. Some places online also claim it's a date code which is also accurate depending on the tool and location. Notice that the G stamped into my tool is NOT cast into it. It's a stamp which does not match the rest of the tools' normal date code information.

      Interesting, this happens with open source projects from time to time. Looks like they still have kits on tindie as of this posting. Good news is the Gerber files and full BOM are out there so technically anyone could build these, even without the kit. Sadly this is the same thing that happened with the little Rosco m68k kit I built and made a video on as well.

    So the government that bought planes from boeing, ground support vehicles from Oshkosh decided to take tools from snap on by force? The last year of ww2 saw the military spend 40% of the us gdp, adjusted for onflation the war effort cost 4 trillion dollars. I don't buy it that they just rollec up ro snappn snd says Uncle Sam needs your tools and were not paying for them. I belive the snappn probably had a cobtract to supply tools to the government for a price sure.

    • @burntsemiconductor
      @burntsemiconductor 5 месяцев назад

      Unrelated but I know Disney was pissed about how the DPA took over his studio. I think it would be very possible there were some ruffled feathers as uncle sam made demands of private industry. Now, as far as folks running around with stamps before a bunch of G men show up? Its the story I was told and I don't feel right changing it even if I think it sounds silly. But I agree insofar as I am sure they were very aware of the demand and hand plenty of time to plan. As far as just compensation, during the war everything was saved- no cars were made, bacon grease was literally saved for ammunition production.- I cannot imagine things were easy for a critical industry like a tool maker to get resources- let alone profit. Would really love to hear from a company historian if Snap-On has one. It would kick ass to hear about how this all went down and what it was like to work there if there are any written or recorded interviews from folks working there during the war. Also fun WW2 story? Being from the Tulsa area, did you know that ZEBCO reels you use for fishing came from the ZEro hour-Bomb-COmpany? After the war, can you imagine being like "Well, people don't need bombs anymore. Time to go fishing."
